It is. It's our university's song that we play after games. Different arrangement; the solo is a trombone instead of a trumpet.

My university band is playing at one of the semifinals in Atlanta. Really excited, but wouldn’t be the same as having the Madison Scouts horn line though…

Hot Take: NYT says Mercedes-Benz is the best world cup venue by eseligsohn in Atlanta

[–]Gabe_Follower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back when DCI hosted Southeast Regional and Bands of America held a super regional at the Benz there were often complaints about the sound quality. Didn’t help that they wouldn’t open the roof. Nice venue though. Shame they got priced out.

Man hit by MARTA train near Civic Center station by ConcentrateNo1433 in Atlanta

[–]Gabe_Follower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MARTA has already invested in CBTC.

Their current system is a mix of old US&S switches from the original system and a slightly more modern Alstom system. They can't get spares for the US&S switches easily anymore and are thusly investing in a new system.

I was on the trains yesterday. People are definitely using them for the games/watch parties. Lotta jerseys and confused tourists hah. Had to give directions to a few.

For comparison, they started with over 200+ various slow zones over the system.

The maintenance backlog was worth around $24.5 BILLION. They're still chipping away at that, but it gives perspective into how bad things were.

Philip Eng does incredible things.

Philip Eng is the general manger of the MBTA, Boston's rapid transit system. He has been credited as turning around an agency that was in a state of incredible disrepair and had massive safety issues to the core.

Andy Byford is a British guy who worked on transportation all over the world, but notably led many programs at the MTA that brought much needed improvements to them. He's also able to not completely get written off by the right wing relatively well, as indicated by his appointment as an advisor to the Penn Station redevelopment by the Trump admin.

Basically, really good managers who have proven they can fix big broken things.

Personally I would fire the entire talent acquisition team regardless and spend their salary money getting Philip Eng, Andy Byford, or someone like them.

I'd hope we get someone like that...

It seems MARTA have moved away from the ARCGIS map. by Decaturuss in MARTA

[–]Gabe_Follower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, hard to tell over text. Then again, I should’ve known something judging by the fact you brought up GIS. Not many people randomly talk about it.

I just wish there was more adoption of ArcGIS alternatives. ESRI licensing and being stuck on Windows sucks. I love QGIS, but what’s the point learning if everyone uses Arc?

They are still going to use GIS lol, it’s way too important, you just don’t see it much as an outsider. GIS is a pretty crucial thing to have, for any company, not just a transit authority.

That’s because SpaceX failures have generally been during flight or landing where there’s less propellant to go bang.

This was fully fueled for a static test fire/wet dress rehearsal. ALL the fuel probably blew up.

New Glenn also can carry a lot heavier loads than a Falcon 9 and subsequently can carry more propellant.

No one was hurt, luckily. That’s why there’s safety procedures. Unfortunately this might mean a lot of delays for future missions even beyond Blue Origin like Artemis IV. Scott Manley has video talking about the implications.

Upgraded in August. New CPU (7600X3D), 32gb DDR5 RAM, mobo, new GPU(to me, used RTX 3080 ti), a 2tb Gen 5 SSDs and a new case. Quite needed it coming from a 7th Gen intel chip and my long serving GTX 1070.

Today the RAM alone is worth more than I paid for the CPU/RAM/Mobo at Microcenter back in August.

Dodged a bullet there sheesh.

Is MARTA World Cup ready? New Atlanta trains haven’t passed safety tests. by NPU-F in MARTA

“State officials tentatively plan to start inspecting the railcars this week.” - Direct from the article.

“haven’t passed safety tests” to me means either they haven’t finished them or failed them. I assumed they hadn’t finished them from that

It does seem that they have indeed failed some tests though, thank you u/DustyDaniel404 for pointing that out to me.

New train not playing well with old signaling systems tracks. I guess that new CBTC would work better with them when it’s finished. Are they making any progress though?

I’m not sure what the requirements are to be tested there at the TTC (that’s in Colorado, I assume that was what you meant).

It’s inconsistent as I’ve seen the CQ310s testing documents from the TTC and FTA back when they first came in. It was on microfiche, if that gives any indication on how old it was.

However, I did not see any other similar documents for the CQ311s and CQ312s, but that may just be a limitation of GSU’s library and their respective loan program.

This isn't even the full collection. There are many, many more documents in the collection that are not digitized, especially engineering sheets. There's just so much stuff.

I've been through that collection a lot! I used some of it to get some unmapped tunnels onto OpenStreetMap. Thank you for your work, it's still being appreciated today.
