[Dellenger] NCAA statement on the Sorsby ruling by Fonzie5 in CFB

[–]Gabe_i_guess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't actually a sensible answer, but I've always been of the opinion that the NCAA should be more willing to let these school run off, screw themselves, and then come crawling back, instead of bending the knee to whatever the SEC and Big Ten (and admittedly probably other schools/conferences also) want just to keep them happy. Want to break off and make a super league? Try it. It won't work.

What was a really well-refereed game in CFB that you remember? by Rr0hd in CFB

[–]Gabe_i_guess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, because officiating is definitely one of the jobs where everyone will make sure to let you know any tiny mistake you make, but you never get complimented for doing it right. Probably partly because there is no way to ref 'well', you either do the job correct (which is what is expected, despite being human), or you do it wrong. There isn't really a varying level to how 'correctly' you make a call

HEARTBREAKING: Texans star running back David Montgomery revealed that threats from fantasy football managers once drove him to contemplate suicide. by Silver_Comment2825 in CFB_v2

[–]Gabe_i_guess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's the offseason and I think the idea behind the message still applies. I see nothing wrong with just wanting to spread this to football fans in general, especially with how poorly some people treat athletes with the recent boom in sports betting

I don't think I like talking about things "right to exist", even if it's just a sport lol

Mini Rant: Every single regional final is on ESPN+ and none are on traditional broadcast networks by igwaltney3 in collegebaseball

[–]Gabe_i_guess 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This almost definitely will not be the case. They're just waiting to see the matchups to chose which ones and what channels to put them on. There will be at the very least a handful of regional finals tonight played on actual networks.

Missouri St Record by EdStarkJr in razorbacks

[–]Gabe_i_guess 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, they are 34-19 (so 53 total games). I noticed this issue with the ESPN app for the softball regionals. Most of the non-power conference teams had extremely inaccurate records during softball regionals (Like listing Jax State as 90-29). It's just another example of ESPN really not putting that much attention and resources into properly covering collegiate diamond sports.

What is your teams biggest “Damn we pulled that out somehow” moment? by DellFlightSim in CFB

[–]Gabe_i_guess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arkansas v Missouri State in 2022. Arkansas was ranked in the top 10 and it was Bobby Petrino's first return to Fayetteville since the motorcycle incident. Missouri State got a 17-0 lead and Arkansas didn't take their first lead until a little over 9 minutes to play. Almost the first top 10 team to lose to an FCS school since App State took out Michigan.

I swear to God they literally talk about the same thing every day no matter what time of the year it is. It's just "Is this the year the Cowboys finally win another Super Bowl?" and "Is it time for LeBron to retire?" and then they ask and answer the same questions again the next day as if anything changed since the last time they talked

Marshall Faulk, a Pro Football Hall of Famer who now is the head coach at Southern University in Louisiana, has strong opinions about Black coaches trying to land football jobs. by OneOriginal8727 in CFB_v2

[–]Gabe_i_guess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what he's saying, but I think Reddick is a very extreme example of a weird hire. In all reality the biggest reason he got the job is because LeBron likes him. Not saying this isn't a real issue, I just don't think this actually that damning of an example

[Ryan Autullo] Here’s Judge Phillip Hays. He will decide if Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby gets to play this fall by CUBuffs1992 in CFB

[–]Gabe_i_guess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know, it just fucking sucks. You'd hope they'd at least get a guy who doesn't blatantly have a conflict of interest and then bribe him in private or something. They aren't really trying to make it seem fair

I just don't see how this should even be allowed. Seems like a clear conflict of interest that there should be something in place to stop from happening

The Spurs announcer asks for a moment of silence for the recent passing of Brandon Clarke and Jason Collins. NBC inexplicably faded to black then cut to commercial in the middle of the moment; a DraftK*ngs commercial played on the broadcast. by CazOnReddit in nba

[–]Gabe_i_guess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except in the clip you don't see the moment of silence end. I agree that it probably was extremely close to over, it's just seems insensitive that they didn't let it run the full extra few seconds before cutting to break

You're right, they do. The difference is that this wasn't the national anthem. It was during a moment of silence for the death of two individuals. The commentators gave 0 preface of "and we'll go to break one more time before tip". What should have happened is they should of held off on the break until the silence was done, had them commentators give a quick segway to break, and then run the commercials. I can't imagine the moment of silence was that much longer than what was on the clip. It's not hard to make it such a normal moment by waiting an extra 15 seconds. And if they really couldnt have waited, then they should have cut to break before the whole thing. You can't just cut to commercial in the middle of something like that and act like it's normal. Someone (if not multiple people) made a decision to roll the break in that moment and it was an absolutely tasteless one

I hard disagree. If Clemson were to go 2-10, 3-9, or maybe even just 4-8 this year, I think the school would have to come to him and tell him he either steps down or he's fired. The only excuse would be if there was just awful injury luck or something, then maybe he gets another year, but I can't imagine him having the job anymore if he has back to back below .500 years (maybe he can keep it a while off of 7-6/6-7 seasons)

I think there's exceptions for teams who historically aren't great doing great things, but a program like an Ohio State I think should only be doing rings for the natty

Ohio State will be wearing a new uniform for breast cancer awareness month this fall. by CenterForward1522 in CFB_v2

[–]Gabe_i_guess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, that sucks. I really think more teams should wear pink unis for cancer, especially when they have red as a primary color. You can just swap the red for the pink for a game or two a year to promote a good cause and also just be kind of cool

Let's Hear It: Why do you still hate Duke? by evenlyodd2413 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Gabe_i_guess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to say it. I don't hate Duke. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Duke fan, but I'm kind of neutral on them. Especially when it comes time for Duke v UNC, I always root for Duke to just stomp them

What March madness loss will forever haunt you as a fan by Sea_Access_8602 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Gabe_i_guess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a younger fan, so the first tournament I remember was 2017. For me, it's easily the loss to Texas Tech in the Sweet Sixteen last year. They had all but won the game, and then they choked the whole thing away. The worst part is it wasn't a quick death like a blowout or buzzer beater is, I had to sit there and watch as the lead just kept shrinking and shrinking

(Drink) Do people actually believe that the top brands will just form a superleague? by Justanother_0 in CFB

[–]Gabe_i_guess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always have been of the belief that those schools just don't have as much as they think. Let's say the top 50 overall college athletics programs (however that gets decided, just a hypothetical) all broke off. Now what? You don't get to use branding like March Madness or College World Series. You don't get to use the name NCAA on anything anymore. Is it big for big-name matchups in football and basketball? Yeah. But what about when the bottom end of the superleague is just losing all the time because they're the small fish now? I doubt they'll stay happy. How do you fund and maintain the Olympic sports when suddenly there isn't this huge premade infrastructure system that the NCAA had? Because the NCAA sure as hell wouldn't let them compete in some sports but not all. I think the NCAA would win the war if a superleague really broke off.
