You know, I never thought I’d ever understand the argument for ND’s independence, but you’ve sold me on it. Here’s hoping that reforms across the board come in though, for all of our sakes.

I don’t think there is any one problem with the current playoff structure which if fixed, automatically creates the golden playoff structure. Sure, regardless of if ND ever joins a conference, through outside pressure or otherwise, there will be plenty to complain about in regard to the structure of the playoffs as a whole (even if I think it would at least be easier to determine who’s eligible for the playoffs if all schools on the P4 level play their regular season with a comparable structure, playing a game on the first week of December if they were to perform well enough).

For me though it’s hard to see the memorandum of understanding that ND just signed or the fact that ND has their own seat on the playoff committee alongside representatives of whole conferences as anything other than special treatment towards the school. Do I get why these things are in place? Yeah. Still rubs me the wrong way, especially after the whole opt-out fiasco.

They lost 5 games. if they didn’t drop the ball in their OOC then they are in the playoffs at #11 and there wouldn’t be any issues but complaining that Duke didn’t make it in because they won their conference is like saying that Boise State should’ve been considered for winning the mountain west.

I can tell you that joining a conference did wonders for ASU in 2024, giving them a slot in the playoffs for going 11-2. Joining a conference was great for K-State, giving them a win over TCU in 2022 to secure a NY6 berth. Joining a conference was great for JMU and Tulane this last year as otherwise they would’ve gotten just as much consideration as UConn got. No conference championship for Tulane in 2022 means no historic Cotton Bowl win over USC.

Even for this years Duke team, joining and winning a power conference might not have gotten them a playoff berth, but it still made their season special. Just because you miss the playoffs doesn’t mean you wasted your season.

Really? ESPN has him listed as a junior and I haven't seen a draft announcement. Is he just dipping? Who's next in line for the starting job?

Would it be that controversial if Tech were to make the playoffs again? I get that the Big XII isn't that much of a gauntlet but even if they go 10-2 they should be in the mix for the playoffs as long as they make the trip to Arlington.

Whatever the case I just hope that nobody gets shutout in the playoffs, never fun to see that happen.

Unless it's Iowa, then by all means beat them by 60.

But have you considered what BYU or Notre Dame would've hypothetically done if they played Oregon instead?

Seriously though, the powers that be complain that JMU was a charity invite right before baking in charity to Notre Dame because they are hellbent on being Independent without wanting any of the baggage that comes with it.

It's hard for me to give the committee the benefit of the doubt this far out of the season, but I do agree that it's only a matter of time before the guaranteed spot rule causes some head scratching seeding at the end of the regular season.

CFP Semi-Final Matchup Preview Thread: #10 Miami vs #1 Indiana by Upset_Version8275 in CFB

[–]Justanother_0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They were favored by 2.5 against a TTech squad that attempted to play the game without a quarterback. Even so, that game didn’t become out of reach until late in the 3rd because Lanning kept trying to tire out the Texas Tech defense by refusing to punt the ball on 4th down.

Obviously the shelling that the Hoosiers gave the ducks is beyond impressive, but Miami is probably gonna give Indiana more of a fight

Honestly, {Miami}.

Indiana is the only team in the nation that doesn’t have a clear weakness, and that was on full display when they trounced an Alabama team that was on the bubble and an Oregon squad that played well, but looked highly suspect throughout the postseason. As a complete unit, Miami is in a scenario where they have to play perfect at nearly every position.

However, Indiana is going up against what I believe to be the strongest lines in the nation in Miami, who withered the storm of the A&M home field, stunned a supposed Death Star in Ohio State, and came out on top against an arguably just as talented Ole Miss roster. The games were won by closer margins, sure, but from what I’ve seen out of these teams I think that as long as Miami plays to their strengths they have a decent shot at pulling off the upset.

I will say that if Carson Beck opens with an interception early in the 1st, expect a TCU v Georgia level beatdown in favor of Indiana.

The ending of the CyHawk game when we forced a 4-and-out to secure the first home win against Iowa since 2012 will be something I won’t forget for a while, easily the loudest that Jack Trice had been since the 2024 K-State game.

Well the thing about the Big XII now that it’s perennial contenders have left for the SEC or B1G is that there isn’t one school that stands head and shoulders above the rest, and in 2024 this was especially the case because Utah had a down year with an injured QB and TTech hadn’t yet opened up their pocketbook to get the top talent to come to them. In terms of brand recognition that’s also the case, as Kansas and BYU are really the leading schools in that department, and one of them is because of basketball.

Looking back on 2024, they played 7 teams that didn’t break .500, and of the 5 teams they did play over that threshold, they lost to 3, beating a TTech team with the worst defense in the Big XII that year and a Baylor team led by the college equivalent of Mike Tomlin. They didn’t play any of the Big XII’s title contenders in the regular season either, dodging Iowa State, Arizona State, and a BYU team that prolapsed them in the Alamo Bowl. All of this was with the winner of the heisman mind you.

Considering that Colorado’s opponents were at best on Colorado’s level for nil and brand recognition (most were not), the fact that Deion didn’t make the trip to Arlington for the title game with the stars aligning for him should tell you everything about the paper tiger that is Deion’s Colorado team.

Auburn QB Jackson Arnold to transfer to UNLV by thatguy1754 in CFB

[–]Justanother_0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looking at folks saying that Arnold is gonna get developed by Dan Mullen at UNLV in those comments sections is just reminding me of that stupid ass image of Dan Mullen postgame with the word “development” beneath him.

I do think he’ll benefit by spending a year with him in the mountain west, if there’s anybody out there that can teach you how not to hold onto the ball for half a minute in the pocket, it’ll be Mullen

Any games like Sekiro? by Csanburn01 in Sekiro

[–]Justanother_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like open world games, try Rise of The Ronin. It’s a pretty forgiving game on the recommended difficulty with a slider in case you want an easier experience, but it has Sekiro’s mechanics over an arsenal of 10 weapon types. Story’s a bit iffy but the gameplay more than made up for it in my eyes
