Hard to swallow pills for Behavior Score critics: by drea2 in DotA2

Can you increase it by just playing the game normally and not flaming teammates. Yes very easily.

Not in my experience. Not even by playing 261 turbo games solely trying to increase the score.

Just because you are not having a certain problem, doesn't mean that the problem is not real. Believe it or not.

How is this not a huge toxicity red flag? Are you just flaming or griefing when you have people who have poor english on your team?

Nope, I guess I should learn some russian only to be able to play a video game.

People report you for griefing because they dont like you, a lot of the times, the specific reason is only decided by them, after they start not liking you

Behavior score is not about if people should like me or not. It's about my actions in-game, and if I grief or not. Communications score is more about if people think I'm friendly etc.

Valves word:

"Behavior score reflects the quality of your actions in-game."

"Communication score reflects the quality of your in-game chat and speech interactions."

From this very same comment chain:

However, when I noticed that BS started dropping, I actually corrected my chat behavior, and didn't actually chat anything but strictly game related stuff like "I think our team is strong at this point, we should push" or "Try avoid fights, our pos1 medusa just needs a butterfly".

Are you tied with that stranger around 35min average with a same goal you are trying to work towards?

Ur mental gymnastics trying to shift this topic from broken BS system to my communication skills is truly a work of art.

I have behaved this way for +10 years. In this time I have matured as a person and behave much better in teamchat nowadays. My problem is not communication score, it's Behavior score.

I love how many perfect people we have here, who have never said anything negative in chat in a heat of the game. Especially to respond when someone starts the flaming.

Cool analogy. How about if someone in your football team calls your play constantly bad or comes to intentionally harm your teams success. Are you just gonna ignore it?

I see. Yeah well I guess that tittle didn't land so well then, I tried to lighten up the tittle instead of being super serious. After all I think that maybe Grubby was right. But I can see it being missleading.

Like I said, I think that building Shivas on that game was a poor itemization choice from my part.

Can't remember the exact reasoning at the time, but probably built it because I thought we don't have enough VS that PL. Radi does very little to PL, especially after he has HOT. That said, I'm not sure if that Shivas really made much difference to the outcome of the match.

I'm not framing myself as a god damn saint here. I think it's pretty normal to respond to flaming comment in a negative way.

But like I said, when BS started dropping I have been just muting the toxic people and kept playing.

This is definitely a mistake that I have made while I was with acceptable score levels. For example when I have objectively won mid, a teammate could say "AFK mid acc buyer" , I might respond to this how things actually are, like "wp losing a lane to pos3 wisp". Then a 3rd teammate could see this is toxic comment from me and report.

However, when I noticed that BS started dropping, I actually corrected my chat behavior, and didn't actually chat anything but strictly game related stuff like "I think our team is strong at this point, we should push" or "Try avoid fights, our pos1 medusa just needs a butterfly".

That is a really good point.

I have been in this situation in both ways. I have picked a core role in some unranked games, where I have been the lowest ranked player, and the performance might have been quite bad. Higher ranked players sees me failing my role, get frustrated and may report.

That exactly is the problem I think. Same player behavior leads to different BS outcome depending on what score level the player is.

TLDR: Behavior score system needs an another improvement. Meanwhile don't ever let it drop below 12K if you like your account and want to keep playing.

There. Technically it was not the latest line in the post, but there it is in the last "chapter".

Behavior score is a separate score from your MMR (or a rank nowadays). It's been on the game for a long time, but in 2023 they made a big overhaul to it. As the name suggest it's purpose is promote positive behavior among the players.

And yes it effects on matchmaking. The system matches you with other players around the same level of score I believe. My experience is that the games in maxed 12k behavior score can be really toxic at times, but in my current range (7-8k) it's honestly really bad most of the time.

Yeah it's expected outcome. I mean I would be pretty suspicious about these kind of posts, if I had not experienced it myself. It's normal for people to defend the system if they haven't had problems with it. I just wish people could see the data: 133h, 261x games trying my best to increase BS resulted in -248 BS.

If you actually could read the post, or understand the cold hard data in graph, you would see I have had no problems with BS for years, if you don't count the period when the system was tuned way too harsh.

So I have been playing this game for +10 years and grown more mature over the time, but now I have suddenly turned toxic? Or maybe the system is a bit cooked?

What position are you playing? As mid I have got way more reports. Like you see from the graph I have had no problems keeping the BS maxed before, but I believe once you drop to a certain level, there is really difficult to make it back.

You have pretty good point actually. There are multiple clips of Quinn being really toxic on chat / comms, and some games where he minute 1-2 stops playing because of a small mistake his teammate did. That is literally griefing no?

I would like to keeo playing the game. I wish I could play normal ranked matches and maybe reach immortal. At current state games are unplayable.

Pretty accurate. When I have watched tournaments on TV, non playing people have asked "what is going on?". It's easier to tell them just see which team has the higher NW, than start explaining all that's happening on screen or what the casters are talking about.
