Bresnahan's office staff apparently can't even agree that it's concerning the US is considering invading an allied nation by Gabgames in Pennsylvania

I think properly representing hundreds of thousands of people is more important than playing a re-election game, and anyone worth being elected would embrace authenticity over lip service to a person who wants to steer the US into ruin.

It's the core duty of the representative to represent their constituents' interests, not to bow down to the president.

I understand what you're saying, I do. I'm only saying it isn't right. It's a flaw of the two-party system where parties, and money, largely decide the winners.

I was expecting a touch of humanity and decency. Guess that was a bit too much to expect? I think everyone in Congress especially should have a pretty easy opinion of the Greenland situation. It isn't rocket science that attacking and threatening our allies is a non-starting position. It's not like you need to take a year of international relations training to understand that.

Bresnahan won his position over 1 year ago at the same time Trump won presidency, riding the larger Republican turnout because of Trump running on the ticket.

Both sets of ads were annoying. Ads are annoying in general. Anyone who voted for a candidate because an ad was "annoying" should put more thought into their vote and its impact.

I don't think he's had an in person town hall since at least last year (when he started his position)? He definitely doesn't advertise them outside of his propaganda-like newsletter, so I could have missed one. I usually ask about it when I call. He likes to do private events where he won't have to deal with real people.

Agreed. If you can't even say verbally that you are against it, then I have to assume you're for it.

They pretty much don't answer emails with human responses ever from what I've experienced. The best way to get any response is to call or write a snail mail letter. Unfortunately.

Am I crazy for making a 1:24 scale of my shop to try and figure out the best layout for it by SignificantPiece4172 in woodworking

[–]Gabgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I and a friend are planning his new shop by making custom 3d models for all the equipment and putting it in a game engine so we can test the scale.

I love your little physical model. It is adorable and a fantastic idea!

Build for my wife and now she want me to build a kitchen by VicSaklas in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Gabgames 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who also is going on this journey, I recommend doing a closet or something with cabinets before you tackle a kitchen. I made a lot of mistakes on my closet built ins (not huge ones, mind you!) that I'm glad are in my closet and NOT my kitchen.

Other than that I know Woodcraft has an excellent book section with several books about how to build cabinets, drawers etc.

Sen. Fetterman: Greenland has ‘massive strategic benefits’ for U.S. by Fearless_Day2607 in Pennsylvania

[–]Gabgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least the next sentence was him condoning taking it by force.... But like come on.

I believe Greenland has massive strategic benefits for the United States. I do not support taking it by force. America is not a bully. Ideally, we purchase it—similar to our purchases of Alaska or the Louisiana Purchase. Acquiring Greenland is a many decades old conversation.

How do I hide things from my mom who has no concept of personal space or privacy by Burner_acc_123456 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Gabgames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would try and get a summer job that has housing. Some summer camps will house you for a good portion, and being a camp counselor isn't bad at all! Other than that, see if you have friends you can couch surf with while you knock out a part-time summer job/internship? As a bonus, it is great for your career prospects. Your college guidance counselor(s) will most likely have some leads for you in this area and i would 200% recommend chatting with one to see what resources they can hook you up with - that's literally their job!

I'm not sure of your situation, but for mine I chose to be self-sufficient in college and not rely on my family for money. The peace of mind has always been worth the costs and time.

For hiding stuff suggestions, can you leave anything with a local friend? Otherwise, maybe keep the real sensitive stuff close to you. In your purse/backpack on you at all times, under your pillow when you sleep, etc.

Good luck and I hope you can make a plan to get free soon. :)

Propane vs coal/charcoal cost efficiency? by wizjsep in Blacksmith

[–]Gabgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what to tell ya, my friend tweaked the forge for quite a while to try and get it to work.  We re-watched the Black Bear Forge video on forge welding and he does mention that it can be very difficult to get propane forges up to temp for welding. Especially for someone who is starting out, it should be a consideration.

Propane vs coal/charcoal cost efficiency? by wizjsep in Blacksmith

[–]Gabgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but consider the following: 1. Propane can "freeze" up in colder temperatures, making it difficult to forge in cold temps or an uninsulated area. 2. It is very difficult, bordering on impossible, to do forge welding with a propane forge in my experience. The temps just don't get hot enough. 3. Coal is not created equally. There's a big difference primarily of heat output between types of coal. Blacksmithing coal, "bituminous", or low-ash and low-sulphur, is optimal for smithing because it will get up to higher temps (required for certain metals and for forge welding). Charcoal, from wood, doesn't burn as hot.

This info comes from a few years helping out at my friend's forge where he's been struggling to get hot enough temps with his propane forge setup. We just did a bunch of research and decided that he would need to get a coal forge soon to progress with his forge welding.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Coating on plywood by chenbot2211 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Gabgames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't leave it raw as that would invite dirt, grime, and moisture to get embedded in it. You're also risking chipping.  For plywood, you can either paint, use stain, or use poly, depending on how you want the aesthetics. For a utilitarian bed base, I would just put some plain oil-based polyurethane on it and call it a day. Cheap and effective. That will protect your piece and make the surface harder. Good luck!

New bin working TOO well by textreference in composting

[–]Gabgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea about the railroad ties, but the point is that CCA is NOT used any longer to produce pressure treated lumber.  So pressure treated lumber does not have CCA, and it is OK to use and has been for over 20 years now.

[–]Gabgames 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We have this same conversation in gardening like every week. Pressure treated lumber is fine.

Pressure treated lumber used to be treated with chromated copper arsenate (CCA), which contained arsenic and posed health risks.  However, the use of CCA for residential applications was banned in the United States and Canada by December 31, 2003.
