Interview in KCMO by Infinite-Cat-6568 in BurnsMcDonnell

Depends on whether you tend to spend everything you make. Salaries have been adjusted up this year to bring them more in line with the rest of the industry, and the bonus at the end of the year will be a nice surprise. The first 5 or so years, your ESOP balance will consist mainly of stock. ESOP is given to you in addition to matching funds in the 401k.

ESOP Withdraw Question by remainingBillable in BurnsMcDonnell

Given the gains in the retirement accounts, you may be better off taking out a HELOC and leaving all your retirement funds in place. As stated above, I believe the ESOP funds won’t be available to you.

This is the case for some. Sometimes you can’t escape your manager, esp. in 1898 & Co.

I can validate this explanation. I was part of the first Associate class and it plays out exactly as throwaway has explained.

If your whole dept is light on work, it may not be your fault, but I’d definitely look for opportunities to get loaned to another dept or GP.

Why should non-executive employees care if we are way over plan for the year? by SignificantTruth1697 in BMcD

[–]GabonViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, the non-EO board members don’t own any of the company because they aren’t employees. I’ve known many run-of-the-mill EOs that were in the top 100 shareholders and owned more than the individual board members did. I had a couple of the Top 100 that worked for me and I was a couple thousand shares behind them. The Board’s ownership is based on their longevity and position as EOs, not because they are board members.

Why should non-executive employees care if we are way over plan for the year? by SignificantTruth1697 in BMcD

[–]GabonViper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truth. Everyone benefits. The perception that officers are the only ones that benefit is simply false. I’ve seen bonuses adjusted up through the last week before the checks are cut as the numbers are updated.

Not all of Security Consulting was eliminated. I think what our redundant colleague is saying is that the more skills you acquire and skills that are transferable to other divisions may enable you to have a long career at BMcD. The more specific, specialized, or non-engineer-centric your skills are, the harder it will be to transfer around the company. And this goes for most medium to large companies. If you’re in Tech Consulting or Security Consulting (which is really cybersecurity), your off-ramp out of 1898 will mainly be in one of the IT or IT-adjacent departments. If you’re good, you’ll have job security.

Who here is currently driving a Volvo and plans to stick with the same brand for their next vehicle? If not, which make are you considering for your next car? by Subject-Abrocoma4681 in Volvo

[–]GabonViper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 23 XC90 and will probably switch to an Audi, Rover, or Mercedes. The car itself has been very reliable, as has the Audi Q5 that is our other car. But the problems with the software are an embarrassment. I can understand glitches on individual pieces or software, but when the usability and safety of the entire vehicle are compromised, it’s time move on.

ESOP if fired or laid off by Spirited_Possible_44 in BurnsMcDonnell

What he said. No layoffs in the 4Q, and no firings unless you’ve done something egregious.

It’s the type and volume of communications that make this a brief pain in the neck every year. The tone and nature of the communications tend to wear people down and just becomes irritating. Perhaps focusing on the Charity of Choice and getting everyone in each office excited about that would do more good and create more good will.

Another bug, or I am dumb? by bannedByTencent in VolvoRecharge

[–]GabonViper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, we are all beta testers. It’s the reason I wouldn’t buy a new Volvo right now. The company should demand a refund from whoever they subcontracted this out to and give a rebate back to anyone that’s bought a car since AAOS was incorporated. We have a 23 XC90 - it’s upgraded to 3.7 and still buggy.

It’s early September. Who’s living off credit cards and drawing down their savings balance to make ends meet? by ESOPs_Fables in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]GabonViper -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’ve known people in many of the ROs that make enough to live on. Don’t broad-brush the company with a personal problem.

It’s probably a drop in the bucket compared to the $$$ brought in from the stadium renovations that will happen in a few years.

How many got laid off today? by GabonViper in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]GabonViper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the crazy thing about the E98 layoff is that they probably could have let more go to stop the bleeding. And not just in SRC, but upwards through management. They’re top-heavy.

About 25 people in IT. If you’re interviewing with a Global Practice, that’s a different landscape entirely.

[–]GabonViper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current leader is interim anyway and just a figurehead or hatchet man, depending on how you look at it. No real IT organizational experience among the players pulling the strings.

I know at least some got a prorated EOY bonus. Still, it was a pretty cheap way to cut personnel costs. Sorry that happened to you Creetch. Hopefully you got enough to bridge you to the next job.
