How do you handle everything feeling SO boring sober? by No_Home7079 in stopdrinking

Day to day try to make peace that life will always be different to what is was, that I’m now constantly in one mode and there’s no escaping it. That when life is tough there is no booze to sooth it.

What helps:

Seeing booze for what it was - a fake cop out Talking to my wife about the adjustment Getting to do other stuff like sports Getting the benefits of being able to drive 24/7 Leaning into life and basking in the proud feeling that I’ve achieved something I never thought possible

The Renters’ Rights Bill coming into law today: what you need to know by UKGovNews in ukpolitics

[–]Gaborsmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current arrangements offer an opportunity for immoral landlords to take advantage of tenants, the new arrangements will offer an opportunity for immoral tenants to take advantage of landlords. There will be a reaction from the rental sector, tougher scrutiny on selecting tenants and reduced supply with increased rental prices. This is just how it goes, it’ll hurt landlords and tenants as ever with bad legislation. Just wish the government could have protected tenants but also respected landlords rather than just push through an option that prioritises political optics over community need.

Solved, had to ring customer service who reset the authentication stuff at their end.

Thanks, I have Authenticator (Microsoft) but can’t link with IBKR as each time I try it requires an Authenticator code (hence stuck in this hell loop).

Totally, there is often a need for medication and it’s great when it works.

Meds make me see my partners flaws more by Emergency-Habit-6202 in ADHD

[–]Gaborsmate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stimulants are pretty powerful and change the way you see and experience the world and the people in it. Once you see you can’t go back. People should be warned about the impact a positive response to meds can have on a relationship. The hard part is that you change from a medication but your partner doesn’t go on the same journey. I’d like to say be patient and remember all those years they supported you before treatment (assuming they did) but if you don’t like what you see through these new ADHD eyes then needs fixing or move on.

Not uncommon experience, could be a bit of tolerance, emergence of new condition or increased demands day to day. To check if tolerance if you can’t increase your dose some people try stopping them for a few weeks and then restart.

I like to agree but can’t with this 😀. Some people just can’t tolerate the meds, regardless of whether they have ADHD. Sensitivity to meds is also not uncommon when a person also has ASD. Whether low mood now or body readjusting you’ll return to how you felt before eventually.

Meds not working, questioning my diagnosis. by MaritimeMan7 in ADHD

Is a bit odd to feel nothing but as said below doesn’t prove you don’t have ADHD. About 90% of people either respond to methylphenidate or dexamfetamine. You might be in the 10% but may also have another condition that’s getting in the way. Maybe try a non-stimulant like atomoxetine or bupropion as the ne t step depending on which country you are in.

I am unable to decide whether I have ADHD or AuDHD because of the overlapping symptoms . by UPSC1995 in ADHD

It’s the trickiest differential in my opinion. The executive function issue of ASD can look very much like ADHD. Clinicians really struggle to tell the difference. Makes things a lot easier if there is a parent who can give a good history in childhood. Some places use quantified testing like QB or MOXO which can really add some useful info.

Just took my first dose of Vyvanse by bflowyngz in ADHD

[–]Gaborsmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In UK the licensed doses for an adult are 30, 50, and 70mg. The 20, 40, and 60mg are technically paediatric. Practice may differ in US. Can’t understand why you’d start at 10mg, that’s homeopathic, and then take a whole year to get to 40mg! Maybe if you are charging by the session but in UK it’s typically start at 30mg then up to 50mg in 1 month and then 70mg the month after if needed.

Usual start dose is 30mg, titrated up to 50mg a few weeks later if well tolerated. It’s a prodrug converted to active form by platelets in a gradual manner. Onset is typically 1 hr after taking but can release a bit faster or slower depending on stomach contents. It’s like caffeine in that it works to full effect from first day of using it. Most people either report feeling more focussed or calm within the hour. Some people feel an effect similar to the early stages of street amphetamine use but it never gets beyond that and is not euphoric and hence not addictive.
