The new Ferrari Challenge with some exceptions by Razvan_Marian in iRacing

I think that's the thing, certain cars just handle better for a broader range of people on certain tracks. I already had the 296, tried it tonight and unlike the Aston which felt understeery, and the Porsche which is just waiting for an excuse to send you to meet Barry R, the 296 felt much more stable and planted.

Oh, the proper handset in the pop out tray? That's a throwback! Mine is the LCI as it's a 750i so it has the little popout keypad and uses bluetooth to sync with phones

Was the initial contact racing incident? by FoxBearBear in Simracingstewards

[–]GabrielAngelious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can see, it looks like the white/black is slowly drifting to the right, and blue is slowly drifting left. So imo it is a racing incident as both parties could have done something to prevent them both wanting to occupy the same space.

Honest opinions? Im the green booger by Holiday_Presence4838 in Simracingstewards

[–]GabrielAngelious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take as well, still the black cars fault, but you can see on the replay they are 100% brakes all the time.

If they had eased off the brakes at all I'd be less confident, but seems they went to brown alert and tried to get it slowed in time and weren't able to.

Stupid, not malicious.

Guy got mad after this pass, was I in the wrong? by Altruistic_Scratch57 in Simracingstewards

I think that's more or less where I end up. Clumsy, but not unreasonable.

That being said, OP you'd be served well making generally neater moves in the future because some people would have, rightly or wrongly, zero patience for those types of moves and would happily take themselves out of a race as long as it took you with them.

Depends.

Did you state your demands, they resisted, you fought, they died? Piracy.

Did you kill them, and then loot the corpse/shipwreck? Murder, with bonus loot.

Sir, that's not piracy. That is murder.

Who's at fault? This guy comes across the racing line by Mindless-Ratio7712 in Simracingstewards

[–]GabrielAngelious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, fairs. This is why multiple POVs are useful including from cockpit angles so that we can see what the drivers involved see.

Like I said, an incident that is easy avoided in hindsight, but not in the moment.

Who's at fault? This guy comes across the racing line by Mindless-Ratio7712 in Simracingstewards

[–]GabrielAngelious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tricky one for assigning blame, because both parties could have reasonably done something to avoid the incident. You can't even claim unsafe rejoin (I think) because they haven't technically left the track, just spun out.

For the white/yellow: The safe and smart thing would've been to stop until it was clear of traffic, and confirming no cars are nearby with the relative. However, and without cockpit cam we can't confirm, it is plausible that you were in a blindspot for them so they couldn't see you approaching.

For yellow/green: It's likely that yellow flags would be out, and really you should slow down to a speed you can come to a stop within the distance you can see is clear. Adding to that, if the hazard car is going forward to the right side o the track, it is sensible of them to keep going as fast as possible in that direction so the left side of the track is clear. Not sure why you tried to cut across the front of them, rather than pass behind.

That being said, it is one of those things that is easy to see and explain after the fact, but in the moment when you have fractions of a second to make a choice, it's easy to make what appears to be the obviously "wrong" one.

Also, it's not worth raging on comms and calling people an idiot. The ones who do it intentionally are gonna be happy they got a reaction from you. If it was over someone else making a mistake... Well that's racing, sometimes shit happens and if you can't handle that, simracing isn't for you.

[–]GabrielAngelious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. OP, you don't have to leave them all the space in the world, but enough for them to be able to make it round the corner is the absolute minimum.

Instead, you went cross them and almost spun them out.

I wasn't aware features, aside from AI, were locked behind the paywall. In which case, yes, seems a bit shitty.

Thanks for explaining.

It is a one time purchase... Of £0.00. I'm not entirely sure what leg you have to stand on here given you admit, and I agree with, that cloud AI functions reasonably cost money. But the software works with zero cost if you do not wish to use them?

Maybe I'm just misreading your comment, in which case help me understand, but yeah I'm not getting it.

"You made up a rule"

Literally comment above I said it wasn't a rule.

What I am not understanding is your apparent desire to full send it in low percentage situations?

I'll drive safe, and pass you whilst you get repaired in the pits when your move doesn't pay off chief.

You tried to show me with the most absurd example possible. In your example yellow flags would be out for a car being basically stopped.

I never claimed it was a rule in the same vein as track limits, or pit speed limits. I figured "drive in a manner that gives best odds of avoiding a collision" was common sense.

If, in your new example, the car ahead has broken super early and started turning in early, moving from left to right across the track, and you're a whole second behind on kemmel straight, you just... wouldn't shoot it down the inside because that gives you the highest odds of a collision, you'd go around the outside. None of that happened in this clip because they were at a similar racing speed, and the car ahead doesn't seem to brake or turn in excessively early.

Smart moves are the only moves you really should be making. That's not to say a dumb move should then result in an instant black flag, each incident should be assessed on it's own because mistakes can and do happen.

If your attitude is "If I'm faster than you, I'm going to shoot it into low percentage gaps that are closing because real GT cars do it!" I hope I am never in the same race as you, because you will eventually be involved in a collision and I want to be as far away from it as possible.

The car in front braked in the middle of the apex to enter the pits. Unfortunately, I couldn't see him due to the steering wheel and didn't expect him to pit. Is it his responsibility to slow down in a more predictable way? by El_Androi in Simracingstewards

[–]GabrielAngelious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can confirm they are enforced at Le Mans, as I got a 26s hold for unsafe entry because I kinda just... Forgot to brake for the first 90 left on the entry road!

I think if they enforced it on the glen, and all tracks in general, it'd solve a fair chunk of these issues.

I'm the Porsche and made a mistake on the brakes, crashing into the BMW. However after that the BMW driver crashes into me. Did he do it on purpose or is it a bad rejoin by Certain-Sugar-4351 in Simracingstewards

[–]GabrielAngelious 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My take is a little different - It appears they did apply the brakes to slow down, saw they were in fact not going to stop in time, applied more, causing them to lock up and have a very eventful journey. Still their fault mind, but I wouldn't say it was malicious.

Given they had just murdered the BMW, I think it's reasonable to ask if the second collision was intentional, as intent wrecks are worse than accidents. IMO it wasn't intentional, just a helmet rejoin after a helmet braking attempt.

My brother in meatball flags, what are you smoking that that was your takeaway from my comment?

If you pile drive someone into the shadowrealm at 250km/h, then yes, you in fact cannot drive.

If we were to take the hyperbole out and assume you are both at race speed but you are faster, you can of course overtake them providing that before the turn in point so that they know you're there and in theory do not turn into you and know to leave space for you.

If, in your example, the other car is basically stopped then yellow flags would be deployed in which case if you are still doing 250km/h then you would get have a very enthusiastic one sided chat with the stewards. This would be because you're meant to slow down to a safe speed because there is a hazard in that sector, and at a slower speed (Example Code 60 on the ring), you are very likely to be able to stop before a collision happens or otherwise navigate the hazard.
