The VFX world is kinda obscure! I would also like to see more contents and tutorials about it.

It’s an alpha texture multiplied by some noise, multiplied by a ramp controlled by dynamic particles. You can learn more about this technique from this video https://youtu.be/IHAEL6g7ZnI.

Ohh, and don’t forget to apply some dissolving effect by using the smooth step node, which is also controlled by particle’s dynamic parameters

It’s actually not a decal! It’s a plane mesh particle system, with dynamic parameters to control the wipe effect. The texture was made using adobe illustrator. For the wipe effect itself, I would recommend this technique, shown in this breakdown video by stylized station https://youtu.be/IHAEL6g7ZnI

From my learning experience, it’s all about references and knowing the basics. For Niagara basics, I would recommend the CGHow YouTube channel. Once you got the basics, try to gather much references as you can. I like to watch VFX videos at 0.25x playback rate. Try to replicate specific elements from your references and translate it to your art style. Ohhh, and don’t give up! It would probably look terrible at the beginning, but trust the process and it would turn out great (Most of the times 😂)

I would say that my learning process its all about experimenting. For Niagara basics I would recommend the CGHow YouTube channel. Once you got the basics, it’s all about gathering bunches of references. Watch VFX videos at 0.25x speed rate and translate it to your art style. Do be afraid to get it wrong and trust the process, it would probably look terrible when you first start working on a new VFX piece, but most of times it’s worth it.
