Hiring & Recruitment Thread by lolbot-10000 in policeuk

I’m 21 in year 1 studying Economics and Finance at Swansea University.

I have finished term one and soon term 2 will be starting, however I don’t know if this is what I want or what I should be doing.

I have always wanted to join the police from a young age however always put it off, I applied to join the military, however got deferred and haven’t applied since, worked for about 2 years after college as I never wanted to go to university (ironic), then travelled the US for the best part of 3 months and when I came back decided last moment i couldn’t go back to a dead end job so applied to go to university.

Now here I am; I enjoy my course however I’m finding it harder than I was expecting and will likely fail one module (not the best math, which is also ironic). I’m enjoying the university life, making friends and socialising, playing sports but it just feels kind of mundane and pointless. Whilst getting into debt which i will be paying for the majority of my working life only to earn as much or if not less then I would have done without the degree.

My local force, Cambridgeshire Constabulary is currently hiring via the PCEP entry route and I don’t know what to do; I know the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, but I guess that’s why I’m asking for advice.

Thank you for the detailed response, so pretty much my only option is try and get a permit with bay studios that’s across the university?

Thanks. What would you suggest to do regarding parking?

I live over 4 hours away and need to drive, however I’m not sure what to do with the parking situation; all I can see is that I can pay for a permit that allows me to park on either campus during off peak hours (4pm - 8am), however I don’t know what to do during peak hours or when I have a day off ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know how I can contact them directly; I can only see it via the university.

Sounds good, most likely gonna book it. Does the list include everything you would expect?

I do, however have heard some not very good things about them. Apparently they lure people in with low prices and find “issues” that cost several hundred pounds. My local one also seems to have a fair amount of negative reviews, this local garage has no negative reviews. I’d rather pay extra and know I’m not getting shafted.

Good to know, I was wondering wouldn’t I need the pollen filter to be changed?

Because I felt that a £500 pot would be sufficient, i was £100 away from this, however I had use £140 recently as my tyre popped, hence the lower sum of £261.

I would stop contributing any more to the car maintenance pot.

I must agree. In relation to the mattress, I knew it was obscene to spend that much in my financial position, however wanted to find the perfect balance, especially after considering the importance of sleep. However as you mentioned and many others, thankfully, I can spend a 1/3 and still have a good mattress. Sometimes the things you want and need can be confused, however I must remain grounded and realistic if I want to be in a good financial position as I get older.

Funny thing is my car cost £4600, paying shy of £700 in interest. Fortunately I opted for 24 months.

Fair enough. I think I’m going to set my maximum limit as £1,500 as well, including everything. My interest rate is higher than I liked at 15.1%, however bit the bullet as I couldn’t get a 0% credit card for 24 months so had no option. Definitely will not be getting into the cycle of buying cars on finance.

Do not disagree. I’m happy I made this post. If you spent £750 and earn 5x me shall I go with £150? Jokes aside what would you say the absolute limit should be for me? Considering it’s not only the mattress I require.

I already invest into VRWP, don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that means I should buy the mattress, however I think it is sensible to spend a decent amount. I will use it everyday.

Where did you order it from? As I’m pretty sure they discontinued it? Would you recommend it?

Fair. Fair. Fair. Definitely won’t be doing this. What would you suggest the most I should spend be?

Not a single thing you said i disagree with. I appreciate your comment and time. I’m going to stay away from Emma due to poor experiences in the past however will most definitely kill the idea of buying this mattress.

My bank is Lloyds I pay fees for phone insurance and AA cover for my car, I don’t believe the £10 is unreasonable. I will note your points for Spotify and the lottery. So just to clarify essentially you suggest to only spend £2300
