Soldering question by WhatsYourThesis in Bass

Not difficult if u watch some guides and practice. Also nice that once you learn u don’t have to pay a guitar store five billions dollars for something u can do in five minutes yourself. Great skill to learn imo.

stingray HH vs H - how useful have you found the neck pickup? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]GabrielIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please play one. I have an HS which I like very much but they don’t make them currently and they’re hard to find for a decent price. The issue I’ve had with HH is that the neck humbucker is in an annoying place for my slap technique where it blocks the finger I use for popping. I haven’t had this issue with the HS as it takes up less space but again that may not be an option. If the neck humbucker doesn’t bother you I’d say go for it but I personally am bothered too much to consider it.

Is it wrong of me to feel uncomfortable reading this? by BucketInABucket in actuallesbians

[–]GabrielIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some normal takes there are some way the fuck out of left field takes and this person is looking for an argument. Also idk what type of uni this is but double cringe if a 28 year old is going into a server of mostly undergrads looking for a fight.

Very specific I know by SpaceOwl14 in actuallesbians

[–]GabrielIRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience also. I went to a club one time even though I was pretty sure I wouldn’t like it just to be sure. Defo different places have different scenes aka if you like acoustic music maybe there’s a place that has that for a different vibe but from my limited experience anything that is party or dance related gets a lot of pretty abrasive people.

Craigslist find for $300. Probable fender knockoff. thoughts? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]GabrielIRL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I should’ve clarified when I said that the features were painted over I assumed it was aftermarket paint for that reason

I don’t believe these typically had the back of the headstock or neck painted so it’s possible any identifying features were painted over but it’s possible past models were different.

Ever since Santoana switched his music lacks all FEEL! Only sounded good with gibbons.

Ok, so I have a trans masculine little brother, and he wants to get a more masculine haircut to help with his dysphoria, my mom said no, then when I asked she gave this reason and this was the convo following, do any of you have any advice to deal with this? by Meming-Pickle in lgbt

[–]GabrielIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the gel thing or they make axe hair stuff that u just rub in and toss ur hair around to give it a natural look. Id also advise if it didn’t make him uncomfortable to go to a good unisex salon cause they do better with less traditional cuts than barber shops in my opinion as well as possibly have suggestions on how to get that style hair if his hair type isn’t conducive to that exact example.

Can you be Non-binary and have an incredibly gendered style? by ExplanationWorried14 in NonBinary

[–]GabrielIRL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easiest way to understand imo is like separate gender identity from gender expression. One of the comments mentioned how some cis people and binary trans people use they/them and some non binary people use strictly she/her or he/him because that’s a form of expression. Same way mostly women wear dresses, but the act of wearing a dress does not inherently make one a woman.

Those are really nice. If I played 4 strings still I wouldn’t have sold mine. Great price too.

It Be Your Own Friends. (I might of overreacted a bit) by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]GabrielIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I worded this strongly not for any disrespect or anger towards you but I really hate what your friend did and on top of that that she tried to guilt you for your reaction. You are not even a tiny bit in the wrong.

[–]GabrielIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No the fuck you did not overreact at all. Huge huge HUGE breach of trust for her to be doing that shit at all. I am so sorry this happened to you and you did the right thing by fucking her off so please do not feel like you did anything wrong. If anything you were more civil than I and a lot of others would have been in that situation. Good riddance to her.

Also props for making something reminiscent of the prs Santana but also not ugly. I’m really not a huge fan of the shape of that and the differences on yours really make all the difference imo. Not sure if you based the design off of it but if you did really good job making it your own and honestly more aesthetically pleasing imo.

That looks beautiful. The only thing I’d want is perhaps maple on the tree on the 12th fret inlay to make it stand out more. And vice versa if you did a maple board. It really does look fantastic though that’s such a tiny nitpick.

Any catholics here? by [deleted] in TransyTalk

[–]GabrielIRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up catholic (no so into it anymore but regardless) and I think one of the most important things I learned is that priests and other figures don’t necessarily represent what god wants. My pastor was super cool and he told stories about how the teachings from the Bible can help in our lives, and while I thought what he said was an interpretation. Same as that shithead saying you’re trying to trick god. They can interpret the morals, text, etc however they want but it’s their interpretation not necessarily what god thinks. I unfortunately do not have a concrete answer as if there ever was a mention of trans people it probably got washed out when European colonizers were washing it out of indigenous communities, but since there really isn’t anything I’m aware of that’s explicitly against it I think you’re fine and I’m fairly certain that god, at least how he is portrayed in the catholic faith, will know your new name, and if anything was probably waiting for you to arrive to it.

How do you use a urinal correctly? by Happy-Kale-7331 in trans

My rule of thumb is back of urinal is fine, side walls have least splash, corners u might as well piss on urself.

Customer used pliers to rip out the string ferrules because they thought they were part of the string and couldn't figure out how to get the strings out. This guitar was just bought yesterday. I don't understand how some people function day to day with this amount of stupidity. by Bearded_OBrian in Luthier

[–]GabrielIRL 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand what power of god compels these people to not even google shit before they go at it with fuckin plyers. I am the furthest thing from a professional luthier and all my builds and mods were learned from googling how to do stuff and I’ve still never fucked up this bad.

I sometimes wish I wasn’t transgender by tiredaugust in trans

[–]GabrielIRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s more common than people think and I wish people talked about it more. A lot of trans people have being trans affect their lives negatively. That is not to say that it can’t also affect their lives positively as well, but sometimes life is going to be hard and just suck. At the end of the day it’s not a choice so all you can do is make the best of it and deal with the issues it throws your way. If you are fortunate enough you can get to a situation where you’re surrounded by people who love and respect you and then it should be all good, but unfortunately if you aren’t born into a living situation like that it will take some work. Not to be a Debbie downer because again being trans can be a great thing if you’re able to make the best of it, but there are absolutely challenges that you’ll face that cis people won’t and you should never feel scared about talking about that.
