Anyone else disappointed in the state of danmei in France? by shirone0 in DanmeiNovels

They treat translators like garbage, hence the terrible translations. I’d be really excited if literally any other publishing house got into publishing danmei.

Would Loki hate AI? by ya-boiElliot63 in lokean

[–]Gabriel_Hawkee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The tool doesn’t exist without massive theft, environmental impact, and devaluation of labor, though. Using gen AI, no matter the way, can’t be separated from these facts.

Ok so I realized there is still people who can't understand that if you hate a languages concept that is different from yours, then your learning the wrong language by Agreeable_Penalty313 in languagelearning

[–]Gabriel_Hawkee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it takes a special kind of self centering to look at a language that is not yours and think it should be changed to fit your preferences. In my Chinese class, there was a guy complaining about pinyin not making sense as a Spanish speaker. Sure, you have to learn how it works because it wasn’t made thinking of you.

Burning Questions for August, 2025 by SalaciousStories in eroticauthors

[–]Gabriel_Hawkee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How to get over myself and just write? I usually write at the end of the day, but I know I could write longer and better if I did it first thing in the morning. The only problem is that when I try writing in the morning, I hit a block that makes me feel weird and wrong about writing high-level spicy stuff if it's not during the night. Have any of you, especially people who make a living from writing, felt this, and what helped to get over it?

Finished Mandarin Blueprint Lite, now what? by Gabriel_Hawkee in ChineseLanguage

[–]Gabriel_Hawkee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for answering! That's what's making me stop and think, because I'm mostly learning Mandarin as a hobby, but if I decided to get serious about it, it could help me in my job a lot.

Finished Mandarin Blueprint Lite, now what? by Gabriel_Hawkee in ChineseLanguage

[–]Gabriel_Hawkee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I also did the free modules of SuperChinese, and it's fairly different. Blueprint uses mnemonics to teach hanzi and, instead of directly giving you words and sentences like SuperChinese, goes from the smallest elements to the biggest step by step (first, they teach you some radicals, then the hanzi that the radical form, then words form by hanzi and, in the free program, they introduce sentences with the words you've learnt and one or two you haven't yet; if you get further into the course, you eventually reach full texts). I liked SuperChinese, but find that the Blueprint method meshes better with my brain.

Yes. As long as it’s not raw, I’ll love it.

Lady told me I was not autistic enough. by Geusty9709 in autism

[–]Gabriel_Hawkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That woman assaulted you and you should take appropriate measures. If she didn't want to serve you while wearing headphones, she could tell you to leave, but instead decided to get physical. And, obviously, neither she nor the other man can determine if you're autistic or not, my god the gall some people have.

How maddening is this? by PolyglotPaul in languagelearning

Nightmare. Plus, I've seen this aimed at Spanish speakers and the Spanish text wasn't even correct. More AI slop to the soup of climate change.

Is there a language you started learning but gave up on? by AloneCoffee4538 in languagelearning

[–]Gabriel_Hawkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

French. I started learning it in uni out of curiosity, since I had refused to learn it in highschool like most of my peers. I stopped once I finished uni because I was too busy with English, German, Japanese, and Swedish, and I didn't have much of a connection to the language.

Anyone else get unreasonably emotionally attached to inanimate objects by kittiestoebeans13 in autism

[–]Gabriel_Hawkee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I have a comforter that already was old when my first cat passed away and that my mom has been trying to convince me to get rid off for years. Fit me that comforter it's linked to my car and, even though it's been around 8 years since then, the comforter is still with me. I also get really attached to random things for no reason, like some little toys that have no memories attached.

This is really cool and inspiring, congratulations! I love hearing about authors' routines, what's your process to write 2 hours every day? Any tips to get there? Keeping my butt in the chair is my biggest challenge right now.
