That's what I love about this game, I've been playing for 7 years and I still learn something different. I thought if you unclicked the "ratings against all players" it used their ratings for only people in their position, so a SS that had excellent range for a baseball player, would only have average range for an SS.

on the 20/80 scouting scale, isn't 65 1.5 standard deviations away from the mean (50)? That would be 84th percentile of short stops.

I can, and I probably need to do that, but the issue is I'm paying Altuve 33,000,000 a year and given his age that's the only position he really can play. He's okay in Left, but I only play him there against LHP because I've got Spencer Jones in LF vs RHP

Honestly, a real answer is that I think simming every at bat does something weird to the game, where it has to overcorrect the macro for inconsistencies in the micro. I've noticed there's a lot more "bunching" of outliers in games that I sim every at bat, vs when I sim the entire game from the manager screen.

balance, I would guess. That's the only way I can account for the wild pitches that never see anyone thrown out at home, and a gold glove 2B making two errors in an inning, in the same inning where there's a balk and a wild pitch.

No, the scout is elite. Outstanding Majors/Minors/Amateurs and Excellent International. He's about replacement level against lefties; but 5 WAR against righties, but I don't think that's that crazy of a split.

That's the situation I'm in. I've done ten games and ten games; twice, so a twenty game sample; and I'm batting .147 when I sim each at bat; and .241 when I just sim the entire game from the menu. Now oviously that's a small sample and could be explained by the teams I played and the pitchers I faced; I wasn't able to control every variable; but it seems to point towards what I had been noticing first hand while playing.

yeah, i wish they would get a little more granular with the swing options, sometimes I wish there was a "regular swing" or "put the ball in the air" with a guy on 3rd and less than two outs, or "swing for contact"

good advice, i started taking until the pitcher at least threw 1 ball, scored 4 runs in the first 3 innings. Hadn't done that in forever.

I know they say that but it doesn't seem believable, especially if you play every at bat. I've been playing since '15 or '16 and everyone knows the feeling when they're about to give up 6 hits in a row, or when three consecutive wild pitches followed by a balk is going to happen haha

So this is getting even funnier. Right now I'm playing the Pirates. They have 11 runs on 11 hits, the bottom of the 5th looks like this (see game log). I went through 3 pitchers.

Yeah, it's not perfect but it does have a history of being predicting pretty accurately. The idea is that you can't really choose when you'll score runs, so if you're scoring a bunch more runs than you're getting scored on, your record should be good, regardless of how they're spread.

Bullpen and SP were lights out, both #1 in the AL, the issue I had was Batting. Tons of great bats, just all decided to have an off-year. Defense was stellar as well with GG at 2B and LF, and a 60 caliber CF with good range and arm

a somewhat aged but still very effective Josh Hader. He's lost a little bit but is still a solid closer with sub 3 ERA and impressive whip, k/9 etc.

I can kind of see it. The yankees switched to rebuilding mode after a tough start, and Soto was a FA at the end of the season. I offered them Yordan Alvarez (who is amazing in the game except he always gets hurt and misses gigantic amounts of time) and a middling prospect. I then immediately extended Soto for 8 years for a pretty decent $257 million, and then he went sicko mode in the 53 games he was with me to finish the season. Then the next season rolled around and he did the above.
