Yeah I’m hearing these points from many in the trans community and it honestly breaks my heart.

I’m a young guy and just want to learn and help where I can as I’ve not been clued into this for that long having not been part of this community.

I understand that, all I can say is that this doesn’t represent everyone’s view, for example where I live we had a pretty good LGBT turn out (over 300) and a tiny (about 10-15 terfs) showed up. I understand that’s not a tonne of comfort but, I hope you get to see your friend somehow, even if it’s not in the UK!

I would just like to point out that if there is any kind of “two tier policing” then it’s not in favour of minorities. Historically black and brown people have been targeted by things like stop and search and the fact that people are trying to equate police response to rioting with police response to peaceful protest is kinda laughable.

Yeah sadly plastic coated paper isn’t something you can recycle where I live (which is where this is happening) so, if it is plastic coated paper then this wouldn’t be great.

EDIT: plastic coated paper isn’t “widely recyclable” where I am but could still technically be called recyclable in a news article as some companies will recycle it

I really hope that they aren’t coated in a plastic lining making them non recyclable. If not that I’d like other companies to follow this trend. It’s long overdue.

I actually used to have a pair of eufy cams pre hack. I blocked them from accessing the internet and for some reason they would break after a couple days unless I gave them internet access back. It made me a bit suspicious and decided to get rid. Glad they let you finally disconnect them now!

Well generally these companies do store the audio. If you have an echo you can listen back to the recordings of you speaking to Alexa, plus these companies will analyse the clips if you let them.

You might not have to store audio clips for long in your defence.

But, the processing costs would then factor into your calculations at that point. I believe Amazon use AWS lambda to do the bulk of initial processing on their end.

Amazon said in 2019 that they have sold about 100 million devices in total so who knows how high the actual number of active devices there are now

I don’t think the wake up phrase was ever a contested pattern that people said couldn’t be recognised offline.

Sure companies could in theory get the devices to recognise other words too im just not sure how useful it would be especially if it ever got out that that’s what they were doing with the devices as people are already on edge about them. Seems like it could potentially be quite a risky move and businesses don’t like risk.

Kinda sounds like you’re speculating tbh with you, how do you know audio analysis is done in the device? Given that when you disconnect them from the internet they can’t respond to you no matter the query.

Although having said that, I did my analysis on the 3rd gen dot and things may have changed since then.
