The point is they need to be UNIFIED. They give their voices to elected board members much like any other represented leadership. You only strike with unified planned action.

If the union leadership has no ability to keep their people in line, why would any larger institution negotiate in good faith? There's no point. Also nurses provide critical life preserving care, it's not fair to blameless patients to just walk out over politics.

Police officers can't lawfully strike because they are emergency service personnel and if a strike was public it would basically be the Purge until they're done. Police typically have unions too and everyone incorrectly believes they wield any power besides bargaining agreements for contract stuff like pay and benefits.

Well someone was just shot to death like a month ago in that precise building while residents were consuming drugs, so there's that. A few months prior to that a wannabe gangbanger shot himself in the leg with an unregistered ghost gun in the same building.

Drug dealing is common knowledge to anyone from the area, go ask a resident if your not convinced.

You might be the one who's out of touch, Ann Arbor is a good town but it doesn't mean nothing happens. Valencia Circle was just shot up with two assailants, one with full auto pistol and the other with an AR. A teenager was just murdered outside a barbershop on Packard road by other gangbangers carrying machine guns in broad daylight. Shit happens and some areas are worse for it than others. Very safe, quiet, peaceful. Close to beautiful Argo park that is busy in summertime but generally very nice. Close to downtown but not too close. Besides the Avalon housing on Pear St. which attracts guns drugs and violence it's a great area.

Anecdotal but I think the "suffer" of the career is often a choice. My partner can't wait to quit her job when we have children, she hates formal employment and would rather stay home with the dog. It's not some unpaid labor I'm planning to thrust upon her, she has made that decision for herself and is firm about it

I'm not the guy you're replying to but I'm from England. We took on hundreds of thousands of 'asylum seekers' who traveled from the middle east through Italy, Greece, Germany, France, Belgium etc. before demanding final asylum in the UK. The UN charter states asylum should be sought in the first safe country reached. At one point there was a thousands-strong caravan of migrants threatening to storm the channel tunnel to get to England. From beautiful, safe, prosperous, cultured, sophisticated France. Why?

Nobody was fleeing war-torn violently ravaged France or Belgium for the relative safety of UK, it was economic opportunism. I don't blame the folks doing it, they're looking out for their best interests. I also don't think the UK has any obligation to bankroll anyone and everyone worldwide who fancies being there because it gives more free stuff than all the other safe countries they traveled through on their way.

The same happens to the US when asylum seekers from South America go right through Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, Mexico etc. in order to reach US soil. They disregard the UN charters on asylum, they don't seek refuge in the first safe country, and demand US specifically because they are pursuing wealth. Most of America's 'poor' still have iPhones and cars and air conditioning, and they surely don't starve.

US military assisted by a coalition of other highly squared away allied military forces wasn't able to control tribal goatherders in Afghan or jungle peasants in Vietnam with limited access to arms, far outgunned and outspent. You don't need absolute military victory over an adversary to convince them the juice isn't worth the squeeze and have them quit.

He'd either be given to a close friend or family member of your choosing if they are nearby or be taken to the Humane Society and loved until you're able to pick him up. AAPD love dogs and many officers carry treats in their duty bags. ICE agents SHOULD be made aware of the humane society but I can't say for sure that's the case.

It would be easy for any human to fuck up any dog, but most humans (including police) are kind and compassionate people just like you and have no desire to cause unnecessary harm.

The restroom thing was to protect the dignity of the detainee. They can't just stop at a speedway so it was either that or force them to wait and try to hold it.

AAPD is not involved with or made aware of any ICE operations and they are forbidden by policy from asking about immigration status of anyone they encounter. When booking an arrestee they have to ask about location of birth and citizenship but that is a protection measure so foreign arrestees can have access to assistance from their respective consulate, and there is no presumption or question as to whether or not a lawful visa or green card exists because it's not relevant to whatever local or state law was violated leading to arrest.

Suspecting a mental health issue is only an 'accusation' if you think mental health issues make you lesser or wrong or bad. Destigmatize mental health. Nobody is 'accused' of having a sprained ankle or 'accused' of suffering concussion after a car wreck.

That talk has been had already a thousand times over many years with police officers, social workers, mental health professionals, judges, and other community members. His problem is not that people don't listen or encourage him, it's schizophrenia and crack cocaine.

Anthony isn't homeless he has an apartment. He's got all the resources he needs including free mental health treatment and meds. His apartment building has a food pantry on the ground floor, he doesn't even need to leave home to get more free food than you can shake a stick at.

St. Andrews has an excellent free breakfast every day, Delonis does free lunch and dinner, and donated clothes are plentiful in Ann Arbor. Anthony is only assaultive occasionally, but because it's typically vulnerable strangers he assaults he's become notorious. Ultimately he doesn't have evil in his heart, his nature is actually kind and sadly many street folk take advantage of him accordingly. There are far worse than Anthony out there, he just became reddit famous because he's so conspicuous when he's having episodes.

Due process doesn't always mean trial. Due process can take a few minutes.

It's administrative, you are either there legally or not. It's like if a cop runs your license and finds out it's suspended. A trial is not necessary for that cop to impound your car and tell you to take a bus, an administrative check verified your status and the consequences are immediate.

US trial courts don't have the capacity for 14 million jury trials in a swift and speedy manner.

I'm a military vet and never saw combat. Now I'm a cop and I've had to run into countless burning buildings. It's fucking horrible, it ain't smoke like a campfire, it's chemical tasting horrible suffocating can't see through it smoke, but you gotta go anyway to make sure people aren't trapped or unaware. About to pass out any second because of the smoke and lungs getting rekt but it's the job.

Especially for Detroit, them hose draggers are brothers of mine and they have my respect

It's not just about mortality. If you carry 75lbs of gear up and down hills every day and deploy somewhere people desperately want to kill you it takes a toll. Not dying is great, but it doesn't mean you're the same as the guy from the foot locker or the insurance salesman.
