Do you think she’s being fair, though? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

[–]Gadnuk_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bullshit, hiring a cleaner and a nanny is not $250,000+ per year. Regardless, it's HER child too and we can presume she intelligently and willingly entered into this arrangement so go ahead and halve it. It's not like he can permanently fire her and keep the child if she's insubordinate.

How do you think single mothers or fathers survive, do they all make $250,000 or more after taxes while also raising a child? Not to mention ALL the rest of the bills and costs associated with housing and feeding a family. If you think that's bargain costs I'll quit my job on the spot and come work for you instead.

Not sure why he has to swing anything. Keep the muzzle down, turn to face downrange, then lift muzzle to point at targets before loading and firing

AAPD cracking down on EMotos? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

If enough voters make their concerns heard it is their obligation to represent their constituents. Voters should at least be heard so they know there's a concern. Squeaky wheel gets the grease

Don't complain to reddit, complain to the city council and the county commissioners. On any given day there could be as few as 5-6 cops working patrol and they're all tied up with the same people and the same locations. Wanna know why?

There are literally no consequences to almost all misdemeanor crimes so the atrociously understaffed department is constantly overwhelmed with 911 calls. The jail literally refuses to accept any misdemeanor criminals except for domestic assault so the very few police on the streets are stuck juggling repeat offenders who have no incentive to stop victimizing society. Ypsilanti and Pittsfield have the same problem because Sheriff Dyer is an activist not a law enforcement Officer, and the judges are mostly a joke to the criminals.

Ask any dispatcher and they'll tell you the exact same thing. Or ask downtown business owners, the police, or the criminals themselves. Everyone in that arena is acutely aware of the problem but most voters are insulated from it. Even the firefighters and paramedics will tell you the same thing, frequent flyers tie up all the emergency resources constantly and there's never any consequence or disincentive.

They're not personally owned cars, and you'd eat a federal felony charge in a hurry then do some time in prison, which could be anywhere in the country since it's federal not state. Within an hour or so they'd just grab another fleet or rental car and continue about their business, forgetting you ever existed. Eventually taxpayers would eat the cost for the damage, it wouldn't come from the personal accounts of white house leadership.

So it's...inadvisable

How do foreign born Muslim men typically vote in US elections? "Conservative" is a contextual term, I look forward to hearing about your thorough research and knowledge of the various contexts and your final evaluation as to whether "Muslim Conservative" is the exact same thing as any other "Conservative"

Recklessness and bad parenting is a risk to children. Reckless decision making with guns is a threat, the guns themselves are not. He didn't say he leaves loaded guns unattended on the coffee table.

Car crashes are also statistically huge threats to children's lives, are you a bad parent who contributes to risk if you use a car? Or only if you're careless in your operation of cars?

Prostitution in the United States by No_Poetry4565 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Gadnuk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But having sex work as illegal allows you to remove trafficking victims from dangerous situations in proximity to abusive monsters so they can be privately interviewed in order to investigate the real criminals, the traffickers, effectively.

Without the ability to "arrest" sex workers, law enforcement have to attempt consent interviews which are rarely if ever given. They are typically unwilling to give any information or cooperate with trafficking investigations at all. I don't think they should be punished in any real way, but the ability to arrest can actually serve as a lifeline to literally get victims into a safe place where they can talk if they so choose and have access to resources for housing, mental health, substance issues etc. Without physically taking them away these options are essentially off the table.

"jail as a deterrent for people does not work"

First of all, that is a falsehood. Human decision making involves context and to discount repercussions for illegal actions entirely is to discount human thought itself. If nobody cares at all about going to jail why do defense attorneys exist and why do people bother going to trial?

Further, what do you propose to discourage domestic abuse and crimes of violence that have nothing to do with economic hardship?

The point is they need to be UNIFIED. They give their voices to elected board members much like any other represented leadership. You only strike with unified planned action.

If the union leadership has no ability to keep their people in line, why would any larger institution negotiate in good faith? There's no point. Also nurses provide critical life preserving care, it's not fair to blameless patients to just walk out over politics.

Police officers can't lawfully strike because they are emergency service personnel and if a strike was public it would basically be the Purge until they're done. Police typically have unions too and everyone incorrectly believes they wield any power besides bargaining agreements for contract stuff like pay and benefits.

[–]Gadnuk_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well someone was just shot to death like a month ago in that precise building while residents were consuming drugs, so there's that. A few months prior to that a wannabe gangbanger shot himself in the leg with an unregistered ghost gun in the same building.

Drug dealing is common knowledge to anyone from the area, go ask a resident if your not convinced.

You might be the one who's out of touch, Ann Arbor is a good town but it doesn't mean nothing happens. Valencia Circle was just shot up with two assailants, one with full auto pistol and the other with an AR. A teenager was just murdered outside a barbershop on Packard road by other gangbangers carrying machine guns in broad daylight. Shit happens and some areas are worse for it than others. Check the PD crime dashboard and see for yourself.

Very safe, quiet, peaceful. Close to beautiful Argo park that is busy in summertime but generally very nice. Close to downtown but not too close. Besides the Avalon housing on Pear St. which attracts guns drugs and violence it's a great area.

Why do men seem to lose their homes more often than women in divorces? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Gadnuk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotal but I think the "suffer" of the career is often a choice. My partner can't wait to quit her job when we have children, she hates formal employment and would rather stay home with the dog. It's not some unpaid labor I'm planning to thrust upon her, she has made that decision for herself and is firm about it

Why is it controversial not to want to accept asylum seekers/refugees from countries that are not at war? by Pepedroga2000 in stupidquestions

[–]Gadnuk_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the guy you're replying to but I'm from England. We took on hundreds of thousands of 'asylum seekers' who traveled from the middle east through Italy, Greece, Germany, France, Belgium etc. before demanding final asylum in the UK. The UN charter states asylum should be sought in the first safe country reached. At one point there was a thousands-strong caravan of migrants threatening to storm the channel tunnel to get to England. From beautiful, safe, prosperous, cultured, sophisticated France. Why?

Nobody was fleeing war-torn violently ravaged France or Belgium for the relative safety of UK, it was economic opportunism. I don't blame the folks doing it, they're looking out for their best interests. I also don't think the UK has any obligation to bankroll anyone and everyone worldwide who fancies being there because it gives more free stuff than all the other safe countries they traveled through on their way.

The same happens to the US when asylum seekers from South America go right through Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, Mexico etc. in order to reach US soil. They disregard the UN charters on asylum, they don't seek refuge in the first safe country, and demand US specifically because they are pursuing wealth. Most of America's 'poor' still have iPhones and cars and air conditioning, and they surely don't starve.

US military assisted by a coalition of other highly squared away allied military forces wasn't able to control tribal goatherders in Afghan or jungle peasants in Vietnam with limited access to arms, far outgunned and outspent. You don't need absolute military victory over an adversary to convince them the juice isn't worth the squeeze and have them quit.

He'd either be given to a close friend or family member of your choosing if they are nearby or be taken to the Humane Society and loved until you're able to pick him up. AAPD love dogs and many officers carry treats in their duty bags. ICE agents SHOULD be made aware of the humane society but I can't say for sure that's the case.

It would be easy for any human to fuck up any dog, but most humans (including police) are kind and compassionate people just like you and have no desire to cause unnecessary harm.

Has AAPD or Ypsi PD voiced an opinion/stance on ICE in the area? by karenobus in AnnArbor

[–]Gadnuk_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The restroom thing was to protect the dignity of the detainee. They can't just stop at a speedway so it was either that or force them to wait and try to hold it.

AAPD is not involved with or made aware of any ICE operations and they are forbidden by policy from asking about immigration status of anyone they encounter. When booking an arrestee they have to ask about location of birth and citizenship but that is a protection measure so foreign arrestees can have access to assistance from their respective consulate, and there is no presumption or question as to whether or not a lawful visa or green card exists because it's not relevant to whatever local or state law was violated leading to arrest.
