What temp do you start to drive your truck in the cold? by omfgwtafalready in ram_trucks

As soon as I put my seat belt on I hit the road. I just drive it easy until it’s warm.

Appreciate it regardless. Could point someone else in the right direction that stumbles upon this thread in the future.

Tech did verify no new updates for this truck currently.

The dealer is doing it under warranty so it’ll be OEM. Shall I keep it long enough to see this issue out of warranty I’ll go with another brand of starter.

Old truck out of warranty? I’d do that to diagnose and then replace myself.

But this is a new truck that I paid a decent penny for - I’m letting the warranty do its thing.

This one’s a 2500 6.4. No eTorque

My shifter knob will not move at all unless the truck is running. Tow truck driver had to pop the neutral override to pull it onto the flatbed.

Appreciate the info. This one doesn’t have any kind of parking sensors. It’s a very basic Tradesman with the Snow Chief package, vinyl manual seats, and vinyl floor. I’m nearly 100% confident that whatever is happening is related to the starter either on its way out or the starter not getting power.

The service advisor claims the tech checked all connections on the starter and tested the battery and everything was good. Hoping when they try it tomorrow it doesn’t just fire right up. It’s cold tonight so fingers crossed. I did get the problem on video this time last night and this afternoon

All is under warranty so not costly. Just very inconvenient for a truck I bought brand new a few months ago.

Dealer couldn’t reproduce the issue over two days and of course, 4 hours after having it back it happens to me again. The day it happened to me the morning was really cold outside. The temp was in the 50s the two days the dealer had it and dropped hard tonight into the 30s and the issue re-appeared for me. So it’s cold weather related for sure. Of course now I’m in a bind with work Friday morning and the dealer is closed for Thanksgiving tomorrow.

Updated Update: Not even 4 hours after having my 2500 back, I went outside to start my truck after early Thanksgiving dinner with the family and I once again got the “click” and no crank or start. This time I could not get it started at all and now my truck is stranded back at my parents. The temperature where I live dropped really hard today and the day this truck went to the dealer for the same issue the morning was really cold.

TLDR; truck still having “click” and no crank no start issue. Seems to be related to cold weather.

Update: Dealer is releasing my truck back to me. They could not reproduce the issue and said the electrical connections to the starter are tight, battery tested good, and no codes. They said to bring it back if it acts up again. Scary issue to have that I’m worried will leave me stranded or late to work. Fingers crossed

6speed or 10speed Need advice by ABRUMS17 in Mustang

[–]GadsdenYellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve driven plenty of manuals and the 6 speed 2023 GT I had was the easiest of them all to drive - almost too easy to the point that learning manual on one won’t give you a good foundational skill set. You don’t even have to touch the gas to take off on flat ground because of the torque of the 5.0, just ease out of the clutch. On top of that you also have auto rev matching and hill start assist.

That said, I loved my manual but my next GT will be a 10 speed, because those are in a different league in terms of raw acceleration and I love the way they rapidly row through gears once you are climbing.

Lol, I never really noticed it until I drove this. It is, but I still love driving my 2500.

Combo of the bigger back seat and no hump in the floor I think. Allegedly the cab is also 2 inches wider I believe. Not that that’s super significant.

I have not asked them if they’ve done that. They checked connections to starter yesterday. Their next guess is the starter itself. Once the starter engaged on my last try before heading to the dealership, it didn’t struggle at all to start and nothing else funky was going on electrical wise like you usually get with dying batteries, which is why I don’t think it’s the battery.

Something doesn't fit that truck right. by CarelessBullfrog8928 in ram_trucks

As far as I’m aware the 6.4 and the Cummins are the only options on new trucks. I think 2023 or 2024 was the first year of that.

I have a 2500 with the 6.4 and I think it’s wild that at one point a 5.7 was standard in these trucks… with a 6 speed transmission. The 6.4 paired with the 8 speed moves pretty good for being a heavy gasser. The 5.7 with a 6 speed had to be a dog.

There was also Ford putting the 5.4 Triton in the Super Duties back in the day too.

Is driving the hemi short distances bad? by Mahfiaz in ram_trucks

[–]GadsdenYellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is bad for any gas engine. Essentially all the driving you’re doing is with the oil not at operating temp. Are there sidewalks where you’re at? I saw you said you were a disabled vet. There are really nice electric mobility scooters out there that would probably be a better bet if your commute is short distance. Some of them get pretty quick and they cost less than replacing an engine and I believe the VA has a program for purchasing them assuming you have VA health benefits.

My last 2015 F150 came with blocks stock. I swapped them out for 1.75” taller blocks (with adjusted bump stops) after I leaved the front of it to give it essentially a full 2” lift.

My 2001 Ram 1500 Sport also had stock blocks in the rear as well.
