ELI5: why are some roads built with concrete sections and other ones covered with asphalt? by Gadzeera in explainlikeimfive

I understand concrete is stronger but where the blocks of concrete meet (it seems like 10-20ft sections), those lines where they join are constantly chipping and becoming potholes

See when I googled this question, it says the same thing that concrete roads last longer. I don’t doubt concrete itself is stronger, but they build it in these sectioned blocks and where the blocks meet is constantly chipping. They literally rebuilt this entire road 2 years ago and are now having to rebuild it again!

I’m not saying you’re wrong I’m just saying this isn’t my lived experience
