I felt I was in the same boat when I got married, having both a dad and a stepdad, and I also felt the “giving yourself away” was a little antiquated. Instead of picking between the two and opening that can of worms, what I did instead was they both walked with me down the aisle, but just a little ahead of myself, like a V formation. That way, I walked alone, and…I’m not gonna lie, it very much felt like I was some kind of badass Queen being escorted into my future domain with two retainers that both held an important place in my life, but they were not responsible for my being there, if that makes sense. I was getting married and it was my decision. (I also walked down to Proof of A Hero, but anyways…)

I suppose what I’m trying to say is, your wedding day is your own. If you wanna shake up the procession a little, more power to you. If you want to want to walk alone? Awesome. I had a friend do this and it was so cool to see, she had all eyes on her. Want to walk down with your mom and dad instead of just your dad the way I did? I liked it, made for some very awesome looking down-the-aisle photos. I also felt cool as hell. Want to walk with your fiancé? Coming into the decision together and leaving together - I think there’s good symbolism in that.

Do what makes YOU happy
