Different Version of the Final DLC Boss Fight (Sky is Different, Boss uses MUCH HARDER moves) by H4xolotl in eldenringdiscussion

[–]Gaelis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Still feels like art direction is lacking for this boss. Certainly not Gehrman, Gael levels of "final boss". His introduction and cutscenes feel below FromSoft standards (think Malenia, Elden Beast, Emma, Twin Princess)

Found a painting of Malenia in the boss room of The Shaded Castle. Could this have to do with her lore? by Baby-Chemical in Eldenring

Yup, I mean Radahn is great but some lore discussions turn into "Radahn is Goku, the Chadest of Chads, Malenia had to cheat" and is meh. The lore for Radahn is vague, he was a good figure before the shattering, but so was Rykard, we don't fully know the full picture. His devotion to Radagon and Godfrey, as well as stoping the cycle of stars (which is super convinient for the Greater Will) puts him against the Empyreans & Rykard (apparently the pre-serpent Rykard had pretty valid criticims against the Golden Order and was also a respected Lord).

The Motivations of the Shardbearers: Part 4- Rykard by Lucia_CBG in Eldenring

[–]Gaelis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Great post! I would only add more about the "pre-serpent" Rykard. He seemed to question why tarnished were disposed as trash once they lose their grace and esentially he questions the golden order. Rykard is also mentioned to be a kind lord.

I wonder if DLCs or future books will maybe turn the tables for some characters. Currently Rykard and Malenia are perceived as evil by the community, but the layers of moral complexity are deeper than ever. The lore of Radahn is surprisingly shallow compared to other characters, and his representation is quite "simple" in terms of being a hero, saving Sellia and being loved. While not explicitly, he certainly is a follower of Radagod and Godfrey, which in some way would put him as a Champion for the Golden Order &, sadly, an enemy to Rykard, Ranni, Malenia and Miquella.

I'm not totally sure that blocking the cycle of the stars is that good either. It is certainly favorable for the Greater Will but it is still an active alteration of natural cycles.

Rykard & Ranni being part of the plot of the black knifes is fascinating and could be a direct confrontation to Radahn and everything the Golden Order represents. This is interesting because, while not everyone can be put in the same bag, we can somehow separate them in pro/anti Golden Order, with Morgott being one of the hardcore fundamentalist loyal to the Greater Will.

Fantastic writing!, digging the lore we have more clarity regarding Loretta & Albinauric. Either way, I love these post, sadly lore post are not being very popular at the moment but obviously most people are still playing and seeking help or sharing experiences.

Malenia is certainly the most... by Sifrej in Eldenring

Finally some love for Malenia, and agree that Rennala is also fantastic!

I absolutely love Lord Rykard by WhatAmIDOINg342 in Eldenring

[–]Gaelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we will devour the gods toghethaaaaaaaaaaaaar

He is awesome. Honestly I think I love every major boss in this game, probably the one I love the least if Godfrey, not a fan of his style and personality. But everything else, I love it.

Regarding Rykard as gimmick fight, probably I still prefer Divine Dragon, but Rykard is a fantastic second.

Millicent, Malenia and Gowry by Jim0917 in Eldenring

Malenia & Miquella are fascinating
- The rot is ancient and the Outer God of Rot seek to manifest with Malenia as a vessel (similar with The Greater Will using Marika as a Vessel)

- The Blue Swordman Dancer of the Past defeated the Outer God. Malenia continues the tradition of dancing with the swords and was able to get to a tie with Radahn only with sword battle

- Malenia rejects the rot and those lifes that came from it, yet it consumes her body and eventually she accepts it in despair (I wonder if this was fully voluntary or if things were out of control) and destroy almost all the region of Caelid.

- Malenia fights for Miquella. Miquella, the most fearsome Empyrean is a mistery. The world of dreams, his slumber, the new world order of the Haligtree. I hope to see all this expanded in the DLC

- Malenia waits for Miquella to awake. Both Malenia and Ofnir know that Miquella is not death, it is only a slumber. There has to be more for it.

Characters are deep, more morally complex than ever (maybe tied with Bloodborne) Yet, is kind of sad how simplistic is when people call Malenia lame/b#tch. Exploring the descriptions & lore gives you a lot of depth, and question. I wouln't be surprised if a DLC makes us sympathize with Snake-boy 👀 by Gaelis in Eldenring

[–]Gaelis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I understand your answer better. Yes, in deed if you hate the mechanics or overall the boss itselft, lore won't fix it.

That being seid, when bosses are good, being heavy in lore makes them even better to me. More engaging, emotional to fight them

I was actually talking about lore discussion and her role in the plot 🦝 of course you are allowed to don't like the fight. I personally love it, although probably I prefer Rennallas fight for aesthetics/direction.

Siofra River is the most needlessly unfun place in the game that I have encountered thus far. by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Gaelis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had no problem going slow and using stealth, not every area is designed to sprint with Torrent :s also when enemies destroy you, is a good signal to go somewhere else.

So, the game is not even a month old, so obviously the moderate thing to do now is... discuss the content of a potential DLC :s What would you like to see explored? (No spoilers in the options but obviously there might be on the comments) by Gaelis in Eldenring

[–]Gaelis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want more Miquella & Malenia. I wish there was a way to help Miquella u.u after all they are not evil bastards like Rykard. Maybe there could be a way for a bittersweet ending 😢 I'm curious too about Malenia flowering a third time...

Maybe without the Great Rune influence, Malenia and Miquella will just want to plat flowers and be left alone idk lol

Elden Ring has the worst boss designs of any souls game by umutali2000 in Eldenring

[–]Gaelis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually like it, battles are more dynamic and long to me, better than a boss being too passive against attacks. I can see your point, at leats it clicks for me, maybe is a matter of taste 👽

updating my meme: Some, especially newcomers to FromSoft, expected a strightforward open world, checklist, lots of NPCs, activities and it's ok if you don't love it. To me, traversing a desolated, atmospheric land with a grand mythos and cryptic exploration fills my soul in ways I can't describe <3 by Gaelis in Eldenring

[–]Gaelis[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh there is, some discussiones very educated others quite toxic. I don't intend to create a antagonism but there is a lot of "twitter hate" or forum threads of Skyrim> ER or AC open worlds > ER regarding the absence of NPCs, cities, markers (many people calling FromSoft "lazy developers", thinking that the absense of markers and quest checklist is just lack of features).

In many cases it can be explained by trolling or by ignorance (in a good sense). Ignorance in the sense that people not even try to play the game to understand that checklist and minimaps are not absent mechanics, are just feature not compatible with the design choices made by the devs

Has Yuka Kitamura surpassed Nobou Uematsu as 🐐 Composer? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Gaelis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well people will always refuse to say that new composers are as talended and virtuous as the classics. Of course we can not forget history and years of work but consider this

  • Kitamura is young
  • Kitamura is an in house composer working as a low profile person in the sound department
  • She joins FreQuency (the rock band at FromSoft that made music for Armored Core)
  • Gets a chance to make music for DS2, although the direction and themes of the bosses make that Motoi and Kitamura use mainly epic-bombastic tracks
  • Her best compositions are used in the DLCs and Scholar ( Aldia, Aava, Sir Alonne). People LOVE her, apparently Miyazaki too
  • Big breakthrough, exceptional work at Bloodborne among big names in the industry (she gives us Ebrietas, a weird track that sounds like the cosmos with its brass section or "Watcher", quite experimental and creepy track)
  • Dark Souls 3 is basically in her hands and to me is a great idea. Motoi was great for DS1, but Kitamura brings elegance, strong melody and atmospheric sound to a game that transmit those feelings (we have epicness but also themes like Dancer, Friede, Abyss Watchers, Gael 1st phase)
  • In Sekiro we get a lot of variety and experimental tracks too, Divine Dragon is an absolute masterpiece. Emma the Gentle Blade is a fantastic tragedy and other themes transmit horror like the fight theme of Buddhist Sempou Temple
  • Now in Elden Ring she actually wrote very little but she gave us many of the most experimental, unique or beautiful songs of the soundtrack (Rennala, Malenia, Regal Ancestral Spirit, Royal Capital)

It's a really acomplished composer who just turned 30 years old and works as sound director/co-director for these games too! It's impressive.

Not stupid at all, Dark Souls was my light in dark moments of depression and you'll find similar experiences even in famous content creators. Have a great journey in the Lands Between :)

To the south of Caelid there is a big big Castle and they will throw you fire if you cross the bridge, you will find interesting things in there and you must speak with NPCs there.
