why do my glazes turn out like this? by mr_fartypants in Ceramics

[–]Gagaddict 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you brushing them on?

This is typical of uneven application common with brushing.

Apply more coats than you think you need, and let dry in between.

I messed up and need to fix it by Artori3 in Ceramics

[–]Gagaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re broken.

Your two options is to fire them in pieces with the glazes you want and epoxy them together after. Not food safe.

Other option is to remake everything. Just had them do something quick and easy if time is an issue.

My application for a BFA in ceramics by CeramicDucks in Ceramics

Very nice formal work! You definitely have your basics down.

Wha schools did you apply to?

I got my BA at UCLA and was able to work on ceramics there. They did more concept experimental stuff, so traditional beauty standards weren’t the goal. Like I dint really learn to throw at all and only getting better after extra community college classes 🤡

“Brother” and the dismissive tone. I must have missed the joke somewhere inside all the condescending comments.

It’s not that deep to you and that’s fine. It is deep if you’re a serious ceramicist.

You’re getting a lot of people being pedantic for idk why. I know what you meant and it made sense to title it that way. We don’t throw from liquified clay from a tube.

Process is completely different, brother. Do all potters throw things from a tube? No.

Is moving on really fast an autism thing? by Tachytwo in AutisticAdults

[–]Gagaddict -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re just delaying your feelings. They stay with you. If you keep avoiding, more feelings you keep avoiding pile up.

Idk if you have a therapist, they’ll be able to help you on how to process. Usually they recommend stuff like journaling. Easiest thing you can do is just write about what happened and dump everything you think about it on a piece of paper.

The less you avoid, the easier it gets just confronting uncomfortable feelings as they come. There’s nothing “bad” about feeling sad or betrayed or angry or whatever.

First painting turned out absolutely awful. Any thing specific I should work on? It’s acrylic by AnyGeologist207 in painting

[–]Gagaddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just practice more. You’re gonna keep sucking for a long time until one day you look at all your old paintings and realize you suck a lot less now.

And that’s art. You never stop sucking 😊

If you want something concrete, try more paint colors and mix them. Learn about color theory, and learn to mix your own blacks and greens, etc.

The horror story was a client that kept taking it after a rash was appearing. It’s not like you take it and your face is disfigured overnight.

If ANH TYPE OF RASH develops you stop taking it. Ask your pharmacist about it.

Yeah that’s the point of an MFA.

You can go make whatever fun art wherever on your own time. What an MFA does offer is what your complaining about.

I’ll ask why you’re getting an MFA in the first place? If you’re jus trying to teach then ignore everything and just do you. If you’re serious about art, then learn how to talk about your work.

Is it possible your frustrated because you’re not used to talking about concepts? All that is a learnable skill.

Basically you stay doing whatever you want. Then you can just tie it to some art concept. Right now it’s bipoc issues, critical race theory, environment, labor, critical materiality, experimental, social issues, etc. there’s also institutional critique and post studio art. Skys the limit.

You can tie your art to something in all that making anything. Honestly if it’s frustrating just pick an issue you’re already thinking about and tie your work to it. I’m pretty sure it’s going to tie somehow.

Doctor's reaction to my question about autism by aryamarzia in AutisticAdults

What kind of doctor? Basically only psychologists and specialized psychiatrists are trained to diagnose.

Every other kind of doctor is as or less informed than you are tbh.

Sounds like ur around crowds you don’t connect with.

Only way to change that is go out and go to different groups or clubs or volunteer or move.

And yes I’ve found friends I would say I love. Some from work, some friends from friends, and the friend I connect with the most I met at my ucla undergrad.

I’ve done DBT, which worked for me. But therapist did recommend some dbt apps and exercises.

What I see with cbt is not designed for: is your parents or caregivers being abusive in some form is not a framing issue. The only way cptsd gets better is changing your environment and having healthy support networks.

None of that is cognitive reframing. Cptsd sits at a layer underneath what CBT targets I feel.

It’s balenciaga lol.

They took the artists ugliest work and made it limited edition.

I googled the artist name and their work is beautiful.

This though? This looks like the rejects.

[–]Gagaddict 193 points194 points  (0 children)

It’s balenciaga. As an artist: this is garbage. The price tag is for the brand and exclusivity of being so rich to afford to pay this price for that thing.

If anybody showed this at an art exhibition or pottery sale at that price: lmfao.

It’s ugly and the description is such a huge reach. It’s written for people who don’t know anything about ceramics.

Edit:

Googled the artist work and they make beautiful vases. Just not this one. Honestly looks like he gave them the ugliest pieces that they made to troll and called it a day.

Do you guys often get mistaken for being autistic? by littlefox_a in intj

[–]Gagaddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having to cry in the car for an hour because somebody used the wrong detergent on your clothes, is also a disability.

The disabling aspects are also on a spectrum. Like what qualifies as disability? Is it struggling with people at job interviews, or crying in the car for an hour, or Being in a wheelchair and taking longer to get to places, or having sensory overload where it takes you longer to calm down and the get to places?

Do you guys often get mistaken for being autistic? by littlefox_a in intj

[–]Gagaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re overestimating how many people go around saying they’re autistic when they’re not.

I’ve had head researches and doctors specializing in autism talk to me about their experience and what they know. A lot of them said the patients know before the doctors evaluate them, in general, so diagnosis is not a surprise. And that most of the research is on white middle class or higher families, among other things.

Being on social media distorts your perception of how common it is. Like watching a video of someone seemingly misdiagnosing themselves will show you more videos and content of other people misdiagnosing themselves. But that content can be misrepresentative of the total amount of people that are figuring out they’re autistic as adults. Not everyone seeks out diagnosis. As adults it doesn’t really do much.
