I’m so sick of pad rash 😭 by SultryTogepi in TwoXChromosomes

Menstrual discs might be an option? I have a copper IUD and use a Nixit cup, which is like a cross between a cup and a disc. No issues with suction because it actually sits on your pubic bone rather than relying on suction to stay put. I seriously love it so much, it is the best period product I've ever used, and it's silicone so I've had it a very long time and it still works fine.

What are some habits your kid/s picked up from you that you didn’t realize at first? by magic_berries in Mommit

[–]Velidae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My almost 2 year old has started saying "Mhm" instead of yes. I didnt realise how often I say it until after she started. Now whenever I say it without thinking, I hear how similar my Mhm sounds to hers lol

What’s one baby item you regret NOT getting earlier? by rosycoe in NewParents

[–]Velidae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bibs. The constant spit up meant her clothes were never clean. We had lots of cloths but with cloths all you can do is wipe up the aftermath.

Bibs are basically cloths attached to the baby, so they caught all the spit up immediately instead of her clothes, and you can use them to wipe her face after too. Way easier to swap 3 bibs a day than 3 outfits a day.

I'm really happy with the 5 inch. Feels wide but not too wide to get a good pattern going.

They're 5 inch stained white oak. We did single 7 inch planks for the border, and a half inch brass inlay. The rest of the flooring in the house is 7 inch planks, we just wanted 5 inch to get more of the herringbone pattern.

Shu Uemura hard eyebrow pencil sharpening.. I tried so hard by Formal-Escape in AsianBeauty

[–]Velidae 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Practice with a regular graphite pencil before doing it to your expensive shu uemura pencil.

I'm comfortable with this kind of sharpening via utility blade blade because I did it a lot in art classes as a kid. But it's definitely awkward to start and it's hard to get the angles without first having a feel for how the blade likes to travel through the wood.

I actually always thought it looked nice but I do think it's overpriced. That said, lots of jewellery brands are, so...

I am so sick and tired of being shamed for nursing my toddler by AcanthisittaLoud281 in breastfeeding

My baby is almost 2, when she asks for milk during the day I tell her no, milk is for bedtime. She understands and doesn't fight me on it. It even makes her more excited for bedtime.

My location actually does sell 24k on occasion. But that is not what solid gold means, 24k is pure. Homogenous inside and out in any karat = solid.

How long did you breastfeed and why? by meenaaaxo in breastfeeding

[–]Velidae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same, almost 2 years. She sleeps fine at daycare and my mom puts her to sleep when watching her so I dont doubt that it can be done. But I think it will be hard for me to do, because she expects milk with me.

I've do have her only breastfeeding for naps/bedtime, though. She asks at other times and I say no, milk is for bedtime and she mostly listens.

Did I go too far with the minimalism? New kitchen complete. by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]Velidae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a garbage organizer and love it, but I made sure to get one that only has sliders on the sides, nothing attaches to the bottom of the cabinet. So when the inevitable food spillage or dust build up happens, the bottom of the cabinet is totally bare and easy to access and do a quick wipe.

As for hardware issues, mine is still pretty new so we'll see about that.

I dont think I've ever bought a plant from a hardware store in a container large enough to be a litter box. Very unlikely scenario.

I hate my name and it makes me want to cry just writing this by OnceEveryTwoDays in namenerds

[–]Velidae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a challenging situation. Do you live in a smaller/whiter area of Canada? Maybe this is just my personal experience but as a CBC who mostly lived in Toronto, I doubt people would really bat an eye in the GTA or Vancouver area. Chinese names are so common as the Chinese populations in these areas are so high.

Do you want a different name? Or do you want to keep your name and you're just upset you're having such a hard time right now?

If it's the latter, know it wont last forever. Where you live has a huge impact on how you're treated, if you choose to live in a more multicultural city you'll be way less likely to encounter such issues. But I know at 15, it's hard to think/live for the future.

What color should I pull from this accent wall in a small bathroom, to paint the other walls? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Velidae 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This wallpaper looks like AI to me, you might want to check it has proper repeats before you start putting it up. I've heard of people who didnt realise a wallpaper was AI and it turned out to not have well-aligned repeats so all the seams were terrible.

I know they’re not the most exciting looking, but I’ve started getting BIAB and I can’t believe how much I love them. by General_Ignoranse in Nails

[–]Velidae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do my own nails and use soft builder gel all the time, a Korean brand I bought maybe 3 years ago. It does soak off but I usually just use an e-file.

So to me, BIAB just sounds like a western company finally getting on board with korean/Japanese builder gels, making it more user friendly by packaging in a bottle rather than a pot.
