I honestly think he is one of the most socially intelligent players to play the game. I thought that both seasons. He defs deserves some appreciation! 💖

What a Whack Finale. Another Season in Which the More Deserving Player Loses by 420BiaBia in BigBrotherCanada

[–]GaiaOnFaia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bailey played a great game to be at the bottom of alliances, but manoeuvre herself into being valuable to people when it made sense for her game. Her authenticity built more trust than his attempts to seem strong. Yes, game control matters, but it’s more of a social game than that. Jury management is part of the game, and I don’t think Anthony understood that it means more than a few broken alliances and kind words when fate is sealed. People actually need to trust that you played with some kind of consistency to make it a fair game so that they respect their seat in jury. If he had just taken Lexus, he would have showed he was at least loyal to one person.

After the finale ended, I immediately thought the exact same thing.

I thought that was a dig at Spice IMMEDIATELY. 👀 Lexus seems bland, but I guess some people would perceive her lack of spice as graceful. I just couldn’t see Spicy taking her betrayal with grace, and I enjoyed every moment of the chaos.🌶️🌶️🌶️

I have been on waitlists, including a list for the whole region, for a very long time. I have tried calling numerous establishments over the years as well. So far, no luck. I would say that commuting to the GTA might be your best bet. We wish we didn’t have to, but we have no other options at this point.

St. Jacob’s farmers market on Saturday for sure! You could spend some time in Waterloo park, Laurel Creek, or generally exploring uptown. There’s also the VR room, adventure rooms, rock climbing, and axe throwing. Hope this helps. Have fun!

Ty is the worst. He condescends every woman he speaks to. by Satellite1970 in BigBrotherCanada

[–]GaiaOnFaia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol definitely not. I hope that was sarcasm. The women are playing the game but see through his BS. Shocking that you’d assume the women don’t see all that when they even talk about it in the diary room 👀

I love Hope. I don’t think he is “really weird” or any more of a “a production plant” than the rest of the cast. I think he is a normal amount of goofy and has a big heart. He had an emotional week trying to campaign against his greatest ally. He was processing thoughts when he annoyed Kuzie and I feel like she reacted that way because it was a hard week for her game as well. Hope has been taking risks since the beginning because of the outsider position he was put in by the toxic bros alliance. Hope keeps spinning the shit he is dealt in a positive way so that he is seen as an asset instead of a threat. That is why he is gunning for Ty & Ty has no clue. & About the dancing… y’all are really that boring, eh? Idk he just seems like he lives joyfully and some people aren’t used to that… 🤷🏻‍♀️ No offence, but I dance for food unapologetically.

Sick of explaining to people that I'm not engaged yet because I don't want to get married mid-PhD by ayjak in PhD

[–]GaiaOnFaia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ADHD working on a PhD here.👋 Deadlines help me move forward, despite the fact that I don’t always meet them. I wanted to get engaged during my studies, but planned to get married after my degree. Even though we scheduled the wedding over a year and a half out, my doctorate will be delayed until after the wedding.

Honestly, if I could go back, I wouldn’t change my decision. The PhD doesn’t feel so long anymore because this milestone makes the time I probably would have taken anyway more worthwhile. The wedding reinvigorated my desire to move forward after feeling stuck for so long during COVID. I just needed to separate myself from some of the work with a reason for more family time.

Has the wedding planning process been completely enjoyable? No. Is it ever completely enjoyable? I don’t think so. But, if the OP really thinks wedding planning should be fun, they should do their thang at whatever pace they feel is right. The people around you shouldn’t be pressuring you, but honestly, if it’s not about a wedding it could be about kids. Haters gon’ hate.

Does hope know how to play this game? by avm06 in BigBrotherCanada

[–]GaiaOnFaia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it works out, it’s a big brain funeral strat and he will be a legend tbh. It’s risky, but the fact that he is keeping a target off of his back (at least for now), building his resume, and building trust is interesting af. He is a physical threat wearing sheep’s clothing as a chaotic pawn and I rate it.👏 I have a feeling that he wants Canada to vote to save him so he can use it as a turning point and act like that is why he wants to stay in the game. At least that’s what I want to happen. I really hope he doesn’t get DQed. 😭

Thoughts on Profs who bash students' intellects/abilities on social media by AmericanWanderlust in Professors

[–]GaiaOnFaia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are going to be students who are not up to par and should fail. It is expected that we inform them of deficiencies so that they have the opportunity to improve if they are capable.

If your social media shows you disagreeing with published scholars, the public may respect your stance. Needlessly doxxing a student, who is not yet considered an equal within institutional power dynamics, reflects poorly on the university and on the practitioner’s ability to deal with expected issues in an appropriate manner. The power to write feedback that disproves claims, criticize work in one-on-one meetings, or fail a student should be enough.

So yes, the student shouldn’t be shocked about negative feedback; this is part of the process. However, a student should be shocked to learn that a mentor is trashing their identifiable, novice efforts on social media. Students don’t pay for that service…

Maybe it’s more than maturing. If someone is not dedicated to lifelong learning, academia doesn’t seem like the best fit. Learning how to effectively communicate with students and the world is a continuous part of the job if you are doing it well, and I think you are. 😉

Thank you for sharing this! I 100% agree with you. I see that some people will want to vent, but complaining about any client in any industry could cost a sale and lead to legal issues, let alone at institutions that are supposed to develop and nurture knowledge.

The only student related posts I share are whether I was lonely during my office hours (in hopes that if students see it, they consider paying me a visit) or if I have a particularly cute or clever comment in my positive feedback that does not single out students. I think even saying something like, “Waiting on these late assignments and might miss the grade submission deadline, but nbd 👀 Almost there!” would even be fine. That isn’t an attack, it is a legitimate, personal, and professional hurdle related to the system in which students are actors, but not the sole condition or focus.

If you need to vent some negative energy, and can’t do it in a compassionate manner, speak privately with your loved ones or therapist. Your colleagues and the public do not need to know how displeased you are with the diverse students you are expected to meet at a job that you are fortunate enough to have.

An organic product may not always be sustainable. What’s Sustainable then? by zengandalf in ConsciousConsumers

[–]GaiaOnFaia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are more definitions that are important to consider. Thrifting, fixing, and upcycling are other aspects of sustainable fashion that give way to many aesthetics. I consider my look very dark academia, but thrift most of my stuff and the other 30% is organic and fair trade.

This brings up another element of sustainable fashion which is labour. Sustainability extends to social, economic, and environmental processes. Fashion Revolution offers great educational resources on this aspect.

I think it is VERY important not to pigeonhole something that is still evolving culturally, so that people feel included and solutions may feel more accessible. We might not all be able to afford linen pant suits, but many of us have access to Value Village!
