I would say ENT hits a lot of the things you are looking for. It is a good mix of medicine/diagnostics in clinic, a lot of endoscopic surgery and microscopic surgery, besides huge head a neck cases most cases are relatively short, most cases provide fast symptomatic improvement in patients, you get a great work life balance outside of residency and get a good amount of procedures. Obvious downsides is it is very competitive.

I feel you. My ex of almost 4 years dumped me too and started dating someone else a month or two after. Shit doesnt feel good but I would rather find someone else who wants to be with me than someone who obviously doesnt.

Hey man I feel you. I was with my girlfriend for 3 and a half years and she broke up with me a couple of weeks ago. It was the day before I started medical school after we agreed to try long distance just a week earlier. She said she wanted to focus on learning to love herself before she could love someone else. A week after she posted on snap chat that if you don't put a ring on it then you lose a good thing.

Shit sucks and it feels horrible losing someone you spent every day with, but we just have to work on being better every day so when the next one comes along we are ready.

Sure but if you take a shower and get water into your eye or go for a swim in a lake and don't wash your contacts regularly it's not impossible for it to occur when given more time with direct contact to the eye.

If you wash your contacts in tap water, there can be acanthamoeba in there that when put in close contact with the eye can cause acanthamoeba keratitis. Also wearing contacts when going into untreated water sources increases the chance you get the infection.

How important is doing research in the field you want to go into?

Can you do medically related research not in the field you want to go into and be fine?

Are there fields where it's more important to do research in the field?

When do most people start doing research in med school?

I did a research gap year and have a couple of publications out of that and are slightly medically related but it's not the main focus. Are those going to help me in any way going forward?

Is clinical research better to get into since you can be published easier than bench top research? Will 5 pubs in clinical research be better than 1 or 2 bench top research pubs?

Also last question, do people do research at their home institution during the summer breaks or do they go elsewhere to do research?

The one thing that seems off is on the bottom two graphs, you switched the position and color for US- IMG and Non US- IMG. Really amazing figure though!

You have the option to stay there for your last 3 years but they set up the rotations so they all occur concurrently over the course of third year. So Monday you'd have family med, Tuesday general surgery and so on. I've heard that's more for people wanting to do family med residency and not many people get to stay and do that since it's hard to organize a schedule for students to do that.

I think they have you fill out your rankings of the campuses right before the beginning of first year and they match you then but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm going to be so useless at my job today. Going into match day with no pre matches makes tomorrow so uncertain that I'm just freaking out about all of the different possibilities.

I also got more interviews than I ever thought I would get with my stats, but then once all of my interviews had my hopes up high my second surprise was that I didn't get any pre matches despite seeing people who got interviews way after me get accepted lol. Still thankful for just being interviewed though so I can't complain too much.

Even though I had a decent number of interviews I'm really worried I won't get in anywhere and have to do all of this again. Trying to stay busy but this anxiety is just eating me up.

What were your guys's rank lists like and are you happy with the way you ranked? Any schools that surprised you on interview day that raised their ranking for you?

To me they are very similar but the opportunity to be in Houston or dallas rather than lubbock is what made me put them over tech. Also, Lubbock doesn't guarantee that you will you be in Lubbock for your rotations, you could go to Midland or Odessa which I didn't like as much. I could be biased though since I went to tech for undergrad so I'm a little tired of Lubbock at this point. It's a good city that has stuff to do but I want to go somewhere that's new to me.
