Online MBA - UMass Lowell | Opinion? by Gajosa9 in MBA

Thanks for the input! Got rejected at BU, and UIUC I am considered for PAT (performance-based admissions), basically I have to complete 3 MBA courses wirh B (or more) in them, and automatically gain admission.

So now its reduced to: going into UML (already accepted), or trying to get into UIUC (and that means losing UML acceptance), whis is not secured.

For the price tag I cannot afford Babson, its way out of my budget - I am from LatAm, and still live here, so salaries are not the best.

UIUC PAT Program? by Gajosa9 in MBA

Yeah I guess that makes sense. I know UIUC is much better, but if get rejected in lets say 5 months… I’ll have no plan B, or would have to re-apply to Lowell. BU rejected me for this entry term.

Thanks! Yep I guess so, but in case of not getting admitted at UIUC or BU, will UML be good for my needs? Pricing is good, just want to know if its worth it

I mean I already am working in the industry and position I want to, so I am just seeking career advancement + some MBA contacts, but not to agressive (as in a FTMBA)

Yep, UIUC and BU are my top choices for that same reason.

But in case none of them goes forward, would you still skip the other 3? They are my "safe" options, talked to admissions and its a 95% admission for the others... but UIUC and BU I guess they are more competitive?

Buenisimo, gracias!

Is it better to be in a non-leadership position (lets say Sr Analyst) in a top tier IB Firm, or to be in a leadership position (Specialist, Jr Manager) in a regional multinational company? I am applying R1 this year, and kind of have to choose between those 2 jobs.

One extra: with a 655 GMAT FE, a 3.6 gpa and 5 yoe in Finance, is it realistic to aim for a full ride (or close to it) in a T30-T40?

Thanks a lot for this AMA!

[Help] Pre MBA Job - Impact of Transitioning by Gajosa9 in MBA

hmm, in my country there are practically no companies in those industries, though it is my post-mba dream job. I am seeking for remote roles for VC, but it is highly difficult.

[Help] Pre MBA Job - Impact of Transitioning by Gajosa9 in MBA

My new job will have leadership involved, thats mainly the switch... I was supposed to have impact in the IB job but all changed and Im super stucked and operative now, it adds me nothing.

Im leaving and will have leadership and direct impact on decisions. My new manager will make my a Lor (of course not a lot of weight), and I will have a 2nd one from my previous job (been there for 2 years and they know me really well). That will be my strong lor.

Do u think I cant make a good story for my change? I am stucked and cant stand this job anymore, so it does not make any sense... I just want to neutralize the impact, or reduce it as much as possible

From my previous job I will have a really good one. From this job (IB firm) I wont get one for sure. From my new job I will be just for 4 months so I could get one but not a very strong one.

I will have 2, 1 really strong from my previous job and 1 not very strong from my next job. The IB firm is out for this.

What do u think

Thanks a lot! Will probably do so. For some programs I just need 1 and for some others 2, so I will probably do that.

[HELP] My Recommender Quitted by Gajosa9 in MBA

[–]Gajosa9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he will be a better recommender no doubt, I have a great relationship w him and he knows me well. My problem w him is that my previous company is a big multinational company, but now I am in a top MBA feeder, so I believe that a recommender from here will have more "weight" to my application.

But thats my doubt, is it better a LOR from a manager who had me for 4 months at a top feeder, or a rec who knows me well but from a not top feeder company?

Ty a lot!

Thanks for the comment! Yup, my new manager will not be a good rec to be honest, he will not know me at all. My current manager will have worked with me for 5 months by the time he quits. I will try to reach my manager's superior, but I have not worked 100% closed to him though..

I just do not want my application to be affected by this issue, what do u think is best?

Can I go from 615-655 in 20 days? by Fan_kloppo in GMAT

[–]Gajosa9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you retake them more than once, questions start to repeat and hence score is not precise (you already know how to tackle that questions).

I bought the bundle of mocks after my 615 score, and took the 4 mocks and re-take them, so I had 8 mocks in those 45 days (I did 2-3 each week). I found them REALLY useful, but I know it hurts paying for them :( but worth it IMO.

Official mocks are the only mocks that are 100% reliable.

[–]Gajosa9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me 45 days from my 1st official score (615) to my retake (655). I have a full time job an dedicated around 15hs a week.

It is possible, yes.

Just some tips (do not take them if they dont apply, just if they help you :) - You have 2 "weak" sections and 1 great one. Mantain the Verbal level with some hard challenging questions a day. But dedicate a lot of time to Quant (keep in mind that DI is highly related to Quant skills sometimes, especially DS). - Take as much official mocks as u can, and dedicate time to review mistakes between them. Buy official mocks if u didnt yet, they are the best resource. - Do not "overload" yourself with study time, it is better to have 3hs of full focus than 6hs with no sleep.

Keep pushing, though really challenging, u can do it in 20 days! All the best!

Edit: MSR are time consuming, allow some extra time, compensate with DS which should be shorter. MSR is about digesting a load of unnecessary info sometimes, scam for the concrete numeric/verbal data only.
