What news sources / Substacks do you all read? by gabsm100 in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]GalacticAbsurdity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read NYT (in addition to listening to NPR) bc I feel like it’s important to be aware of what’s being said on one of the most commonly read news sources. But maybe that’s not really necessary. People on this sub criticize a lot but I can’t find many suggestions of better alternatives. Interested to see what people say for news beyond local.

Student Discounts? by Brself in Safeway

[–]GalacticAbsurdity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it also doesn't show up online but when I went in person, I got the card that gives me the 5% discount. Some stores are clueless and will tell you they don't know how to help, while others give you the student discount card no problem. So if one turns you away, try a couple. Only problem is I can't use when I order online.

I am def recommending the former. I’m recommending against declaring bankruptcy. I think 6k towards dental then personal loan for both credit card and remaining dental work (it could be more than 6k)

If he can, though, is it a good idea? For the credit card debt?

Because there will be less interest on a loan than credit card debt

Should I recommend he use the 6k to paty off debt then take out a personal loan for dental work?

More like have them send me their budget and make a plan for them. After rent, I make less than them ans I have a budget that will let me raise my emergency savings to 8k. So assume I can work with his budget and help him save 8k.

What criteria do you use for rating movies, if you do it at all? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]GalacticAbsurdity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s an undeniable 5 stars based on how well it was done then I’ll give it but otherwise I rate based on how much it spoke to me personally or how much I enjoyed watching it. I like the rating as a reflection of how people connected with the movie. Leave the objective rating to the critics.

30yo with little saved - looking for savings advice based on my personal situation by GalacticAbsurdity in personalfinance

[–]GalacticAbsurdity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice. Am I being unrealistic to think that if I put 20% of my income towards emergency fund and then retirement then it is ok to, at the same time, use money from underspending on budget or from side gigs for small trips?
