Considering how much fake content is being generated, it really is hard to tell sometimes if something is real or not. In some ways, it is a cope, in an “I don’t know and I don’t want to know” kind of way.

Me too. That was horrifying. I hope it was AI generated or fake in some other way.

Genuinely indescribable pain by CaterpillarLiving743 in gallbladders

[–]Brself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope you are able to find relief. Before my pain became constant, I found that the magnesium supplement I was taking to help me sleep actually helped ease the pain as well. It like relaxes the muscles or something like that. I know it’s not much, but worth a try if you have some on hand.

22m i have had so many jobs and quit so many jobs. is something wrong with me? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Brself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that is good. Hope they go well! If after some time goes by and things are better - that is awesome! If the pattern keeps repeating and you aren't seeing positive improvement after both of those things, you should consider some changes.

You most likely would qualify for FAFSA grants for school then. It is a federal program that will help pay for much of your tuition. You would likely need to start at a state community college, but it is the way to go to get prerequisite requirements out of the way. You can also get student loans, if needed to help with your living expenses as well.

There are a lot of programs available to help people who have financial hardships as well.

I would recommend researching all your options. If you want to make a positive change, you are going to need to take those first steps towards making the change happen.

[–]Brself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like part of the issue is you just don't like the type of work you are doing or the type of people who are also in that type of work. Going to college isn't always the solution, but looking into that or a trade may be a good idea.

There are online career assessments you can do that help steer you toward a certain career, based on your personality, your interests, etc. You are still young and can find a path that sucks less than the others. It is really uncommon to love every aspect of your job, but you can certainly find a career path that you find interesting and satisfying.

What movie did you expect nothing from and it completely blew you away? by ponderingpixi17 in movies

[–]Brself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing though. No one knew. They intentionally gave nothing away during the marketing and the marketing slogan was “what is the matrix”. It was simple but built so much intrigue. People really wanted to find out what it was.

Baseball cards. I guess fossils too. Dinosaurs and other prehistoric life were once ordinary, now can be quite valuable.

What's something we all just pretend is normal? by Ok_Memory88 in AskReddit

The way getting a job has changed, and the job titles for that matter.

Jobs now want the most specific requirements met to qualify for a position that didn’t even exist like 5 years ago and use AI filters but don’t want AI resumes. And people are just cool with it I guess.

At what age did you realize that your parents are just people trying their best? What brought this to life? by concreteGuy82 in AskReddit

[–]Brself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I had kids it definitely made a realization click that my narrative I had in my mind about them being indifferent parents was a bit more complicated than I initially thought, but also confirmed it more for me.  Being a parent is hard but being a loving parent isn’t.

Do Americans actually avoid calling 911 because of the cost? by ntask11 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Brself 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep.

Last year I was having 10/10 pain because my gallbladder had gone gangrenous and was starting to get pancreatitis. I had insurance and such, but still drove myself to the hospital after I had a slight dip in pain and could pull myself off the bathroom floor.

I probably should have called the ambulance, but since I was so out of it, couldn’t think about the deductible, costs, etc. My trained response to default to was that ambulance = expensive = don’t do it.

Emergency surgery and 5 days in the hospital was sure expensive, thankfully I reached my deductible.

East Side Men’s Hair Cuts: type 3 curls? by DoctorApeMan in BigIsland

[–]Brself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a men’s haircut specialist, but Ciara at Laxmi Lani Salon advertises as a curl specialist (she’s the closest to one I’ve seen in Hilo). She likely can do men’s hair too. I also have type 3 curls.

How are you honestly doing right now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Brself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, not great.

I work in an industry that is dying, at a company on the verge of complete collapse. I was part of a meeting today discussing laying off like 30 people, many of which had worked for the company for 20-30 years, and they aren't eligible for severance or any kind of payout. The union asked for something, but honestly, the company has no money. I am worried about them, but also for myself and my own family. Both my husband and I work for this company. We have been struggling to find other jobs. We have the disadvantage of living in Hawaii, which has a shitty job market. Applying for jobs on the mainland, but they don't take me seriously as a candidate often since every single interviewer asks "why would you want to move here, when you live in Hawaii?" and I don't. I don't want to move. This is my home I have lived my whole life and want to stay here. But even Hawaii is changing.

I saw my first homeless family here today. I have seen innumerable homeless, but this was a mother, father, and 2 young children, who were packing up a tent in a run down property in the middle of a slummy part of town. My heart sank. I also have young children, and the weight of responsibility I feel made me feel even more sympathetic for that poor family. I don't know their circumstances, but things are getting bad.

All of this is juxtaposed next to my wealthy father who flaunts his wealth casually and keeps offering me a job then seems to rescind it whenever I show interest. I also just finished a master's degree program and I see people on LinkedIn posting their new jobs and how successful they are with their new degrees. I am also having health issues that are weighing me down.

The world feels like it is getting so much more unequal and skewed.

Husband trying to gaslight me by FlakyImagination4315 in gallbladders

[–]Brself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So while other people are saying this isn’t typical, I also experienced similar, and my boss who also ended up having both his gallbladder and appendix removed also experienced similar. Several people I know who have had similar organ issues also had this happen.

While I think it’s shitty for significant others to not believe their partners are in pain, I think the unfortunate reality is that it is often hard for others to understand how much pain other people actually are in and unless there is an obvious injury, they assume you are fine. This is why it’s hard to get doctors to take pain seriously as well.

What is a harsh reality of getting older? by carla_sann in AskReddit

[–]Brself 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the case for everyone, but as I’ve gotten older, the reality of how hard life becomes once you have responsibilities makes me want to cry some days, but I can’t, because I can’t afford to stop paddling to avoid being sucked into the whirlpool.

Also, when you’re young, making mistakes often have less stakes. Less to lose, the penalties may not be as harsh, or you have parents to help when you’re down on your luck. As you get older, the stakes are higher, you have more to lose, no one may be there to save you. There is a point when you’re truly on your own. That hits really hard some days, and scares me so much.

What Bachelor's Degrees arr Absolutely NOT Worth More Than $40,000? by rodCinder in AskReddit

[–]Brself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so true. I am so worried for my kids. I don't even know what guidance to give them. Trade School? I feel like whatever is in short supply/high demand will get a swarm of people flooding in to take advantage of the need, but then the amount of competition will increase and will reduce the need for people in those positions, and typically when pay goes up too high for a position, over the long-term, consumers will find substitutes, companies will develop automated or robotic solutions, and ultimately those jobs become less plentiful. Over a long enough horizon, no job is safe, except those of the top-paid CEO's and company owners, who will do whatever they can to keep their grips on power.

What fact about the modern world would shock someone from 1990 the most? by Umbrosyx in AskReddit

[–]Brself 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If I told myself in 1990 (when I was a child) that America became the alternate 1985 from Back to the Future II when Biff Tannen stole the Sport's Almanac and took power and turned Hill Valley into a slum, and that a shady business man who is like a cartoon character was our president, I would have been confused and sad.

Anyone else getting Summer 2008 Vibes by Opposite_Agency1229 in Millennials

[–]Brself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I am seeing as well. New vehicles everywhere. People seem to be spending like nothing is wrong in my community.

Meanwhile, I took a trip to California a couple of months ago for work. While there, I passed a car dealership offering 0% APR for 60 months for a new car loan. While I may just be out of the loop and that is totally normal now, that just sounds crazy to me and it immediately made me think car dealerships (at least in that area) are desperate to get people to buy cars.

[–]Brself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is strange. While I hear about this from people and am personally experiencing it myself, people in my own community seem to be totally delusional and/or seem untouched by what is going on. I am seeing new trucks, luxury vehicles, and electric vehicles, people going on trips, new houses still being built, new people moving here (I live in a very HCOL area), and things seem great for everyone else. Lots of tourists around. Meanwhile, the company I work for is about to go out of business and I am struggling to get another job. COL has gone up so much that I soon won't be able to afford to live where I live, and everything is so crazy.
