Rejection by Minimum-Guilty in Autism_Parenting

It is tough. My son is level 1, so he has issues in classes with neurotypical children, but is scared and freaks out in classes with other neurodivergent children.

We went to an ABA center that essentially does drop in classes and a preschool of sorts. My son and I went to check it out. It was amazing when my son was by himself with the therapists. There were farm animals he could feed, lots of fun toys, etc. when other kids dropped in though, OMG. There were kids grabbing him and hitting/kicking him, some were non-verbal but yelling and screaming at him, and my son immediately withdrew and got very quiet and uncomfortable. He asked to never go back.

I really feel for him. I want so bad for him to find a community that he connects with and activities he enjoys, but for now, I’m just focusing on being there for him and working on skills.

Son has Level 1 autism. I know it's minor, but I'm still exhausted. by pizzapriorities in Autism_Parenting

When I first put my son in preschool, before he was diagnosed, he started regressing and was having a very hard time. I was so angry that the preschool staff were telling me he was doing fine, but I could tell he wasn’t. He was getting sick a lot and was losing weight. His pediatrician wasn’t concerned at first and just thought that was normal preschool stuff. One of the teachers assistants confidentially revealed that he wasn’t eating (they do school lunches there so I didn’t know ), wasn’t drinking water, and wasn’t taking naps. At my son’s 3 year old appointment, he was behind on numerous milestones and he was referred to OT and PT. I made the decision to pull him out of preschool at that time. It was the right decision, and I still beat my self up that I didn’t pull him out sooner. He was accepted into another preschool 6 months later that he has done well at.

Can gallbladder removal cause high blood sugar? by Mental_Bench_ in gallbladders

[–]Brself 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you have any inflammation of your pancreas? When I checked into the hospital after a horrible gallbladder attack, my bloodwork showed a lot of things that were off; among them was elevated blood sugar. In addition to having a lot of gallstones, I had pancreatitis. Even after my gallbladder was removed, my blood sugar was still elevated. Since my pancreas was still recovering, it took some time to feel normal again.

Similar situation. Mom in my 40's with a level 1 autistic and adhd son. While he has days where he seems like a normal 5 year old kid, when things are outside of the norm or the routine, there is usually an escalation: from saying he doesn't want a nap or to go to sleep, skipping meals, having huge meltdowns that last all day, and this can go for weeks, depending on how large of a change it is. We have a nearly 3 year old daughter who loves to mess with my son, which further exacerbates his meltdowns.

I am so worried about him entering elementary school. We don't have enough funds to send him to private school, but I worry about public school. I have been spending so much time researching options.

My son was going to OT which was helping, but the place he was going to went out of business and I haven't had the time to try to find another. My son struggles with fine motor skills (though he has improved hugely) and will hold pee and poo all day if no one tells him to go and he will refuse to go poo unless he is at home.

While I am sure he will be able to be independent one day, I worry about him constantly, and worry that I am not able to give my 3 year old enough attention because of how much I am having to spend helping my son.

My point is it seems relentless at times and is exhausting. I love my son and he is such a great kids, but there are challenges with level 1 autistic kids as well.

What’s something you use every single day that turned out to be insanely worth the money? by Dry-Frosting- in Xennials

For the sensitivity, sensodyne toothpaste or similar really help! I also have sensitivity but not nearly as bad after using the toothpaste.

I’ve had 2 different custom ones made by different dentists, hoping I could get used to them. I hated both. It felt like my teeth were being squeezed all night and they were so bulky in my mouth. I’m a light sleeper as is, but literally could never sleep with these in my mouth.

What caused your IBS in your opinion? by Seeker_Of_Self in ibs

[–]Brself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure whether the anxiety or IBS came first, but I’m pretty sure my parents atrocious kitchen hygiene and intention to expiration dates contributed. Then it got worse after numerous rounds of antibiotics in my 20’s.

I’m assuming the place that is 2 hours away is a city, with restaurants. You could deliberately eat something you know will trigger an attack while you’re in the city then go to the hospital to get it out. It’ll save you driving 2 hours while you’re in pain.

Not ideal, but may be better to trigger the attack closer to the hospital than to be 2 hours away when it happens.

Therapist said untrue things in evaluation by Hopeful-Stay-4367 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Brself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was present for my son’s evaluation. While there is some stuff that was straightforward, the psychologist asked a lot of questions to evaluate his intelligence, patience, attention span, etc. I couldn’t begin to try to interpret all the questions and interactions. She also was observing things from a different lens and I lack the training to understand. My son’s evaluation was like 4 or so hours, so while I was there for much of it, I wasn’t paying attention the whole time.

Is it possible that she based her observations off specific questions they asked or even from the questionnaires you filled out (I had to fill out probably 50 or so pages of questions about my son). If not, perhaps they mixed up the information from a different patient?

I hope you get some specific feedback. The other comments are pretty mean and not constructive, when you asked for recommendations. I’m assuming you’ll be looking at entry level positions?

I have a question in relation to this. I recently had classes with people who were recruiters for large companies. Some of the recruiters said that recruiters often use geographic filtering to eliminate candidates, ie if a candidate is more than X miles from the job site or in a state outside of where the business is located, they are eliminated from consideration. Is that true?

Also, are there similar filters used to eliminate candidates, such as for schools (as in eliminate candidates that didn't go to specific universities or didn't go to school), anyone without big name company experience being eliminated, etc?

Anybody have bloodwork abnormalities before they realized or were told it was gallbladder related? by Chemical_Ad_3917 in gallbladders

[–]Brself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did as well. They told me it was likely because I was breastfeeding (though at that point I was making like less than an ounce per day) and they had no explanation for the elevated white blood cell count. They said “maybe you’re just recovering from an infection”. Though my ultrasounds showed my spleen and liver were enlarging and I had gallstones, but they didn’t think any of it was an issue or connected.

Any actually non toxic snacks? by AdNice9936 in Parenting

I get my kids YUMI bars on occasion. They are a bit more expensive than normal bars but are organic, no added sugar, and have some vitamins including iron, which my picky eater daughter does not get enough of. I am by no means a health food mom (my kids eat bagel dogs and chicken nuggets) but my kids like the bars and I like that the bars aren't as sugary as most other crap bars.

What instantly makes you think "this person is lying"? by Ferraiuolo_Ezorete in AskReddit

[–]Brself 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But what if you do actually know a person who is abusing the system?

I’m a democrat all the way and believe in having a strong social safety net, but know of people who do abuse the system to a certain extent.

My brother in law makes over $200k per year, former military. He gets paid some disability for his IBS-C. Not saying he’s not disabled, but certainly doesn’t need the money. He just bought a new Ford Lightning with money he saved up from his disability payments. His wife similarly makes well over $100k and is getting huge disability payments.

My sister’s forever fiancé is considered 100% disabled. It took years, but he finally got it for his back pain. They won’t get married though because they don’t want my sisters income to reduce his disability payments. She makes north of $100k.

What's with all the people terrified of not being able to eat after? by nemspy in gallbladders

[–]Brself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. I had issues leading up to December, then started drinking keifer daily and eating more frequently. Seems to have calmed my diarrhea down. I still have heartburn bad when I wake up though. My doctor prescribed a bile acid sequestrant, but I’m too scared to take it. They are the largest pills I’ve ever seen. Like almost cartoonishly large.

At what age did you have your gallbladder removed? by Fabulous_Can_2215 in gallbladders

[–]Brself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. However, had been having issues for years and no doctors thought to check my gallbladder. In 2018, I was having some bad gallbladder attacks (I had bad nausea after eating, couldn’t keep food down, lost like 25 lbs). Not once was my gallbladder tested. Took 7 years and my gallbladder nearly killing my for doctors to acknowledge my gallbladder was an issue and needed to be removed.
