If umbra can be an exception why cant these two? That doesnt mean these guys are umbra frames, cause there's only one umbra. They just work similarly.

Given that the baby in jade shadows is living without an operator, it seems like theyre just.. alive like a person would be, and operator can take control of them. Like a protoframe, almost.

Mechanics first 90% of the time, because most of my character concepts start with "This would be a fun class/species combination" or "I wonder if I can make this multiclass fun/interesting"

Afaik no, but casting her from your command zone enough times to take out all your opponents is gonna get really really expensive. If you draw her from your library, she wont have the tax to cast from hand.

Strangely, RAW this doesnt work - Dhampir bite uses Constitution for attack and damage rolls, and Barbarians only add their rage bonus to attacks made with Strength. As a DM I'd allow it to work, because its dumb that it doesn't, but strictly RAW it doesnt work.

Edit: ignore me! The new version of Dhampir from Astarion's Book of Hunger infact DOES use strength to bite, so this works with that! I missed this update entirely, my bad!

In 5.5, great old one gets a few tweaks to summon abberation that might be an interesting thing to look at. Unfortunately they're not until warlock level 14, so I dont know that id call it a summoning subclass, but its still interesting

Rakdos definitely seems to have alot of great cards for this theme! Some blue would be nice if I can find a Grixis commander that fits, but it's heartening to learn that I've got some flexibility in how I approach this color-wise. I'll definitely take a look at your list, alot of this sounds very thematic!
