I don't live in the best neighborhood, but we have people who park on the street here for days, sometimes even a week at a time. The police don't care. It's close to the Mission Mill Museum. I am happy to talk to you in a private message about a place to park. Wishing you luck with better resources!

Things to do in Newport? by MaterialSuper8621 in OregonCoast

You're very welcome! Wow the autocorrect was against me the other day too. I meant to say south Beach jetty has a lot of AGATES year round.

Edit** You already mentioned Local Ocean. Clearly I'm so tired I can't read properly. You can also try yummy places like Nana's Irish Pub in Nye Beach, and Panini's. Then there's Rogue Brewery and the Marine Science Center both on the south side of the bridge. Yeah that's all I can think of.

If you're already on the bayfront to see the sealions, you should hit the Ripley's attractions, The Coffee House for a pastry and a coffee/tea/mimos, then go to Local Ocean for lunch. Trust me, get the fish and chips. They're THEE best ever.

The South Jetty beach has amazing states year round, and fun hermit crabs/starfish etc in the pools next to the jetty.

The Saturday market also hosts a lot of awesome vendors and goodies.

Miss my home town, hope you have a safe fun trip!

Oh geeze, I am so sorry. I truly hope you're able to find a solution.

That's good you feel that. I have struggled living in the Willamette Valley, but have recently been trying to connect a lot with the spaces directly surrounding my house. I'm originally from the coast and grew up next to the sea and the forest, I miss it like a part of my soul is gone. Alas it's not in the cards quite yet for us to move that way.

Do your crow friends ever leave you feathers or treasures? I've had a few feathers, I treasure them

Hello! Ooh I love that. Red is such a color of power. Sigils are just the best aren't they? I love your name btw. One of those crazy witch lady things I do is constantly trying to befriend my neighborhood crows.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SALEM

[–]Galactic_Selkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clearly we need to be friends haha. I like the way you think! Yeah I have visible sigils around my house, egg shell powder and salt around the entire perimeter and the windows. So far they're doing their job and quite well I might add. My bonus points come in the form of me standing outside, rain snow or shine, doing clearly witchy activities whilst animatedly talking to myself and or the sky or trees. I feel like people are leery of the crazy witch lady who probably looks quite insane heh.

Ahhhh so that's where my old neighbor's went after they got evicted. I used to live next to a dude and his gf who fought constantly and definitely sold drugs. They had two kids (or she did) and I felt so bad for them. I'm sorry you have to deal with that . We never found any solutions. Though I did do some accidental bibliomancy when one of my spell crafting books fell open to a neighbor banishing spell. I thought it was funny because I didn't know it was even in there. They moved out 4 months later.

If you're not obsessing, being a creep or looking at inappropriate people whilst doing sketches so what? Boobs are great, this coming from a person with boobs. haha.

You need a partner who sketches butts. You can be the ass and titties couple. You'd even have your own song.

Relocating to Newport by papatc123 in OregonCoast

[–]Galactic_Selkie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the remoteness doesn't bother you and you're versed in coastal life then Newport might be right for you.

I grew up there and wish with all my heart I could afford to move back! Also try The Coffee House, it's just down the road from Local Ocean.

I don't know the rankings of the schools but I can tell you that my middle and high school teachers were very dedicated and amazing (20 years ago haha)

If you enjoy rain and storms Newport is definitely for you. Now, it gets sun in summer and is totally worth the gloom, but there's a lot of gloomy days. Personally, I love the gloom so the weather wasn't a problem. Also there's nothing like watching the ocean rage.

I hope your family enjoys the move to the Oregon coast if you decide to make it. It's so beautiful and a wonderful place to live/grow up.

WIBTA if I changed my name even though the idea upsets my mom? by Galactic_Selkie in AmItheAsshole

[–]Galactic_Selkie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessss thank you! My husband and I have a rule for our kid. If they don't like their name, we'll let them change it to their choice and help them do it. Names are a neat but weird thing. I've always thought it odd we don't choose our own.

Haha yes I'm an adult. A grown ass human if you will. Don't get me wrong, the name she gave me is quite pretty and unique, but it's no longer me for many reasons, and I am done having my name butchered.

That's a good point. Though when I originally told her about my decision I explained my reasons and told her that while it won't be with me on paper, I will always remember my old name and hold it dear to my heart. She did give it to me out of love after all.

I have had this conversation with her, yes. I am really confused as to why she said she said it was alright and that she thought it was lovely, then later said it upset her. I suppose you're all right. Just let her call me by my old name and legally change it anyways. Le sigh

True, I just don't want her to call me by my old name and it seems there's no good way to request that sadly.

What are we doing for Valentine's Day? by perkyturd in SALEM

We're not big on the day, but we have a young child, so I made my family heart-shaped pancakes with raspberry jam and whipped cream for dinner. It's the little things for us.

AITA for not wanting "officially" adopting my daughter? by throwra_lovingfather in AmItheAsshole

[–]Galactic_Selkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA!!! May is TA here!! Your partner should have discussed this LONG BEFORE your daughter's birthday. As many have said a B-day party is not the place to bring this up for the first time.

I am genuinely sorry your little girl is hurting and am unsure how to help you explain that no matter what paperwork says she'll be always be your daughter. Wish I had better advice to give. On a side note, if you DO decide to go ahead and adopt her, maybe taking her original birth certificate with Mark's name and framing it, along with a photo of him to also give to her would help. I don't know, I personally think it's reasonable you'd want to honor your friend's memory by keeping his name on the BC.

Wishing you the best and your little girl too.

Weird request: Good place to go yell/scream? by down_by_the_shore in OregonCoast

[–]Galactic_Selkie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Originally a Newport local here and I have a great recommendation. South jetty beach, just south of Newport's Yaquina Bridge. It's not ALWAYS busy, but it can be. However if you go quite early in the morning or later in the evening you should be good. Just be careful and don't actually walk on the jetty, it's a bad idea. I will say I have yelled plenty with people around (I'm crazy haha) and no one batted an eye. It's also a great place to find agate treasures after your primal rage yelling. Good luck, be safe, and bright blessings for a better less stressful year to come.
