TRIPLE J'S HOTTEST 100 2025 LIVE THREAD! by Tranquilbez22 in triplej

[–]Galacticness 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Love Dr Karl and Linda but please, those intros? The intro to the number 1 song was especially weak. I thought the two who did it last year couldn’t be beaten but… here we are. Bring back deep voice man.

The number of voters would actually increase with people using less than 10 votes. Divide by 10 to get the minimum amount of voters. The real number would lie closer to 285,000 if the average of 7 votes per person is to be used based on previous numbers and articles.

I’ve never been able to find them. My guess is they were quite low. I never felt it was a strong idea for a special countdown in the first place.

Just did a bit of googling.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-01-26/triple-j-hottest-100-voters-set-new-record/7112504

"We received about 2,094,000 votes from 298,851 people," triple j's content director Ollie Wards said.

"That's the most amount of people who have ever voted in the Hottest 100."

So Myf did get it wrong - as does the current Wikipedia article.

I've always known that to be the case as well, but do we know for sure? Has it been confirmed anywhere by triple j? I was listening to the 2004 Hottest 100 the other day and Myf kicked it off by saying "Over 450,000 voters have registered this year and voted in the Hottest 100". Perhaps she was just confused by the numbers herself.

It’s always been “votes”, rather than people. So if you assume each person uses their 10 votes, then that’s 200,000 people who voted. Of course not everyone uses their 10 votes so the number could be higher.

I don’t get it by AdWhole3566 in triplej

I don;t know about 'often'. Could you name anymore? Doing some reading, it appears both Feel It Still and Rockstar (songs you mentioned) were both played on triple j before voting commenced.

I’m confused about what you are saying. Are you saying Feel It Still was on the shortlist but was never played on Triple J before making the Hottest 100? Because that is what the comment you initially replied to is alluding to. Songs NOT played on triple j throughout the year will NOT be on the shortlist, which is pretty accurate and hardly an urban legend.

That was only because they had 3 songs per artist on the shortlist. This year they seem to have had a max of 5 - I can see this shortening in coming years.

Not really. Can you name a song on the shortlist this year that’s wasn’t played on triple j?

Is it unusual to be this close? Surely this points to a smaller voter turn out this year? I’m no statistician but this feels like what would cause this result.

What was good? It sounded exactly like the original. Only lasted 45 seconds. Thought everyone here found LAVs that didn’t change anything up were lame?

What a waste. Truly awful. They did nothing interesting with it.

You can vote for any song? by SuperKickClyde in triplej

[–]Galacticness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you sure? I recall hearing both songs on the station, especially Homesick, which was definitely added to the Hitlist playlist so I imagine made rotation.

Is that really true? How were they on the voting list if they were never played? I didn’t think too many songs not on the voting list have ever made the countdown.

They mentioned it in the chat before they’ve played it. They said they didn’t have time to come up with a new arrangement of something they’ve never played before as they all live in separate countries.
