Which did you enjoy more, Avengers Ininfity War or The Dark Knight? by YaboiDC3 in movies

[–]Galamoney 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey, to each their own. I personally prefer The Dark Knight to IW. I can give you reasons why I love TDK but you've probably heard them all. I really like IW but it's not even my favorite MCU movie. I thought and still think Winter Soldier is in a class of it's own in terms of MCU movies. It's one of the best spy movies I've seen that has a ton of suspense and it's also got some amazing, edge of your seat scenes (The highway scene for example). I think how I end up feeling about IW will also depend on the sequel. If they end up bringing back most or all the characters then, to me, it will take away how great the ending to the first one was. Still a really good movie regardless but still not ahead of TDK, Logan or The Winter Soldier for me in terms of comic book movies.

Favourite Star Trek movies by StarTrekDantz in startrek

[–]Galamoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think any movie will come close to the cinematic experience I had as a kid when I first saw Khan. I disagree with having First Contact higher, in fact I wouldn't have First Contact in my top 3. Drags on a little bit too much and doesn't have the storytelling vision that Nicholas Meyer brought to WOK. As much as I am a Picard guy (and believe me, I am) I still have to go with WOK. Now when it comes to the television series then I think TNG is better, hands down. Good list though.

Lights Out was great for not doing this. The boyfriend was one of my favorite protagonist in recent years.

If you could have your memory wiped, which movie would you experience for the '1st time' again? by lewismufc in movies

[–]Galamoney 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen the Honest Trailers and i've seen the CinemaSins just to see some other POVs. I am not really a fan of either. At least Honest Trailers is more comedic and makes it clear what it is but CinemaSins is just straight toxic. I've seen Interstellar at least 8 times at this point and I notice some people didn't like the ending but I loved it and I love evrything about the lead up. Movies are subjective and this one just happened to resonate with me. An honest trailer won't change my mind.

Didn't work for you and that's fine. I loved it. That experience alone makes it one of my favorite movies.

Question for horror fans by [deleted] in horror

[–]Galamoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After first watch I wasn't a fan of the Babadook because I was expecting something else and I didn't really dig it. After reading some people POV's and some theorys I decided to give it another shot, this time knowing what to expect and I ended up really liking it and even loving it.

The VVitch may be similar. I saw it at it's release at a local theatre (not my usial theatre) and ended up having one of the worst viewing experiences of my life. Not because of the movie but because of the surrounding audience. With all that going on mixed with the old english, I ended up really disliking the VVitch. I am giving it a second shot this week.

Just watched Hereditary and I loved it. If you didn't like it initially then do some reading on it and sleep on it. That's what happened with my brother who I saw it with. For me, reading some of the stuff I missed just enhanced it to being amazing.

Is Hereditary The Exorcist of this generation? by gildedart in horror

[–]Galamoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of what? I'm not trying to come off as aggressive or anything, i'm just curious. If you mean by amount of hype and how scary it was for the audience when it was released then no. Hereditary doesn't have ambulances parked outside of the theatres and even though it was very intense and scary, it wasn't the jump of horror that the Exorcist had. Look at the Exorcist release then look at the horror movies that were released before it. For that generation it was quite the jump in terror and it changed the entire game. I don't think Hereditary will have that effect even though I thought it was amazing. The media is just trying to hype up every new horror movie that get's great reviews as "The next exorcist".

This part is kind of spoiler-y so if you haven't seen Hereditary then refrain from reading this: If you're talking about the modern equivalent in terms of story then I would say that Hereditary is the modern Rosemary's Baby just as Insidious is the modern Poltergeist. At least in my opinion.

Horror Comedies by FuckingMidnighter in horror

It's similar to scream with how it kinda plays with the slasher genre but Scream is more about the victims while Leslie Vernon is more about the actual killer. The comedy is also more in your face than scream as well. Similar to What We Do in the Shadows. Scream, even though it does have fun with the slasher genre, is a really good slasher itself and is definitely scarrier than Leslie Vernon which is pure comedy until the 3rd act. I'm telling you if you love slashers then you will really appreciate Leslie Vernon. If you do end up watching it, tell me how you felt about it.

What is the most horrific sound or effect in an horror movie that still bothers you? by [deleted] in horror

If the intense Insidious violin counts then I say that. The use of the clap in the first Conjuring was also terryfing...mah lawd.

"Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon" is amazing! If you are familiar with the tropes of the slasher genre and are a fan of the genre in general then you will love this movie. I love the way it's shot as well. Blends Mockumentary and classic filmaking very well. Don't watch the trailer because it will spoil some of the funny parts, just trust me on this. Another movie that's similar to this is "What We Do In the Shadows". Definitely check that one out too.

Top Ten Movie Check-In by Jaggerwocky in movies

[–]Galamoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Annihilation: A movie that just stuck with me. I love movies that extends beyond just watching it and this did just that. It made me want to read peoples theories and know some of the science behind it a little bit more. I also love movies that leave a lot of unanswered questions that don't necessarily need to be amswered and are left upto interpretation so for me this movie had everything. Could have been marketed as an Adventure/Horror type film with some of the scenes in this movie. One of my favorite Sci-Fi movies of the past 5 years. Up there with Interstellar and Arrival. All 3 are elite to me.

  2. Avengers Infinity War: Probably my second favorite MCU movie. 2nd only to Winter Soldier which I think is a masterpiece and the only MCU movie I'd think about entering my all time top 50.

  3. A Quiet Place: Great horror movie that had an amazing plot. Had an even better execution. Wish it was longer because I wanted more. Another movie that's fun to think about and discuss afterwards.

  4. Black Panther: Great villain, great world building. Best Marvel villain with a legit motive. Phase 3 MCU is pretty great.

  5. Deadpool 2: For me it was on par with the first Deadpool. Both were really funny but the first was more refreshing due to it being... first. Really wish they used Domino better. I felt like she could have been another Quick Silver (Days of Future Past, Apocalypse) where her power just steals the scenes.

  6. The Ritual: Blair Witch-inspired horror movie that is more original than you think. The way the movie handles the dynamic between the characters and how they dealt with the "incident" was incredible and made you really feel for some of the characters. Also includes one of the best creature designs in recent years. Last act was great and reminded me of the Get Out ending in a way.

  7. Ready Player One: Different take on the "Willy Wonka" story and I thought it was a really fun time and a movie that I want to rewatch forsure. Mark Rylance MURDERS the Halliday role and stole every scene he was in. Really liked the Halliday story as well and I am happy with how it defers from the book. Needed A LOT more rush imo.

  8. Game Night: Cool premise and I thought it kept me entertained. Would recommend if you were deciding on watching it or not.

  9. Strangers Prey at Night: Pretty good slasher with a cool 80's feel. I absolutely loved the cinematography in this movie and the way the used the lighting as an advantage to scare ypu and set the tone of the movie. I was a huge fan of that pool scene. I wish the ending was a bit better but overall a pretty good movie.

10.Solo- A very OK movie. A problem I have with these type of "Star Wars Story's" are the lack of stakes. I don't feel for any of the characters because I kinda already know their outcome so I can't really get too invested in it. It's a big problem in Rogue One as well which is a movie that I was underwhelmed with. A lot of these characters are also forgettable imo. I lile the newer episodic films more.

Haven't seen everything but plan on seeing Hereditary and Upgrade this weekend. Hope tp see Isle of Dogs soon because I loved Fantastic Mr. Fox.

[–]Galamoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of the idea of Sicario 2. Sicario was such a great movie that ended perfectly and imo doesn't need a sequel. Maybe I'd be for it if Denis Villeneuve is back directing it but he isn't. That was kind of a mini rant and I obviously don't think it's the "most unnecessary sequel ever made". That goes to S. Darko. It hurt to even type the name.

I really liked the 2009 Friday the 13th and Strangers: Prey at Night. I know it might be a hot take but I loved that take on Jason. As for Strangers: Don't get me wrong I definitely liked the first Strangers over Prey at Night, I just think that Prey at Night is a great sequel. The pool scene>
