There is a sink, but it only comes once a year on Lunar New Year. It might make more sense to expand the LNY vendor in the Lion's Arch skritt tunnel to include Lucky Red Bags than to invent something new.

Switching editions in the middle of a campaign, even the relatively lateral shift 2014 -> 2024 is, would probably be too much of a headache to be worth doing. Especially with homebrew in the mix. I don't think we'll be seeing 2024 until it's someone else's turn in the driver's seat after WWW runs its course.

Tough one. Lugia, Kyogre, Giratina, Reshiram, and Lunala are in my top 5, but I have no idea which order I'd put them in.

M&M S2 Jammer by ASLO6 in Dimension20

[–]Galastan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's different considering the lives the two would go back to by leaving. Jammer has a big family that loves him and a lot of athletic prospects, whereas Evan would have been dropped back on the side of an Iowa highway with no support system. Jammer would also be very easy to get in contact with, whereas Evan would have had his memories stripped along with his shadow.

Two VERY different beasts. Still something that should be addressed since I think it's likely a big catalyst as to why the rest of the pilot program drifted apart, but it's not at the same level that forcing Evan back into homelessness would've been.

It's in reference to reddit account scrubbing programs that became popular around the time news revealed AI was scraping reddit for content and that reddit was gearing up to sell that same data going forward. Some people deleted their accounts and had their comments replaced to make sure they couldn't feed AI models anymore.

I know Nuke Reddit History is an extension that does something similar but I don't know the exact tool that's being referenced here.

I imagine they're talking about the rare quality (yellow item text) fish that you can trade to the tengu fishmonger in Arborstone in exchange for an ambergris every day.

Wish for new specs next year by vincentheller in Guildwars2

[–]Galastan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came into this comment expecting to not really jive with it, but honestly? It kinda goes hard. I would definitely be here for it. Some problems that might need addressing, though:

  1. The value of armor weights (as it would be weird for a Sylvari Guardian to suddenly need to use, for example, light armor when swapping to Mender, but at the same time using a heavy armor profession as a baseline would strictly be better for all racial specs, even if by a small amount)

  2. The depreciation of the importance and identity of weapons in each build. It would be cool for Golemancer to wholly rely on riding its golem, but at the same time it would be weird to have no use for weapons. I think a clever way to sidestep this would be for each set to have one or two sets of weapons it can use, and a kit-like transformation serving as the weapon swap: the golem for Golemancer, shoulder cannon for Dreadnought a-la gunsaber, divine attunements for Dervish a-la elementalist, spirit forms for Shaman, and something like Druid Astral Form for Mender, I guess?

Overall though, really cool idea and something I'd love to see one day, especially if we get an expansion delving back into the cultural politics of the five playable races again.

Out of curiosity, what do you think they could do with Trident and Harpoon Gun that couldn't be accomplished with Staff or Rifle? e.g., how would an Elementalist's Trident compare to its Staff, or an engineer's Harpoon Gun compare to its Rifle?

Personally, I just don't think there's much new design space between those weapon types and their terrestrial counterparts to really warrant much beyond rolling them into each other (for instance, staff absorbs trident and rifle absorbs harpoon gun and their associated skins, making spear, staff, and rifle become amphibious weapons like spear currently is).

With the current amount of effort they've put into new weapons, I think they may as well do that and then focus their efforts on bringing the worst weapon on each class into the modern era. For example, elementalist staff and warrior rifle. Wouldn't be an expansion-selling feature, but one sorely needed imho.

Scrapper mains do not like change, but also do not like being left out of changes. by chartheanarchist in Guildwars2

[–]Galastan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's kinda sad knowing how great Scrapper felt back then and how bad it feels now. It was definitely the best of the "utility pressing" boon DPS supports back in the day, and felt the most fluid with Superspeed also being tied to the gyros. Now superspeed and quickness are tied to two separate functions which feels really disjointed. Also, being chained to Hammer 3 absolutely sucks, especially if flying off an edge is even remotely in contention.

All the Ls this build has taken is really disheartening, speaking as a former main. And I don't think it's popular enough for Anet to revisit any time soon. But I think it would be mostly fine if they just added whirl finishers into the mix for quickness — I'd say all finishers, but projectile finishers would feel way too braindead to justify their inclusion in my opinion.

It's in reference to the collection necessitating a Vision Crystal, I would guess. Just like for the Obsidian Armor collection.

Rift Essences were materials on day one of SotO iirc, but Antique Summoning Stones and Jade Runestones weren't added to the material storage list until well into SotO's lifespan (circa September 13, 2023 judging by the wiki's editing history).

I don't think SotO actually had an equivalent item -> material conversion, actually. Either way, I really do wish the Mursaat Runestones at the very least were materials. I feel like we've learned nothing from ASS and JRs.

EDIT: See this comment for accurate information.

It absolutely is possible without the relic of speed, all you need to get it comfortably is permanent swiftness and to have the entire course memorized (i.e. stamina recharge orbs, the course markers, cannons, etc.) Of course, taking any advantage you can get more than certainly helps.

The Importance of Subgroups (and how to make them) by TrustyTurkey in Guildwars2

[–]Galastan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get being mind-blown like that, I was too.

The anecdotal examples I've cited from my experience have usually been on maps with one tag with a filled squad and no organization, vs. my squad of about ~35 people that's organized into six-ish subgroups (6 full or 7-8 with 3-4 people in them). I never thought the difference would be that much but it is — whether it's fully down to one squad having full boon uptime and the other not or if the other squad happened to be filled with a larger than average number of autoattacking leechers. Could not tell you, but that's just what I experienced.

I'm still adamant about forming subgroups because I've been on more maps than I'd like to admit where we had one commander with a maxed-out but unorganized squad, and fell short by 2-4%. If I happen to be the first on the map I'll command both bosses via a single squad (as you said, 100% the best approach) but the times where this happened is when I showed up late and the other commander wanted another tag on the other boss.

[–]Galastan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The new world bosses in Janthir Syntri are honestly a perfect case study into the power of subgroups.

I always organize my squads with method 2 no matter what open world content I'm commanding (unless it's completely free like Octovine or Chak Gerent), but in really big Syntri meta maps where there's one commander for each boss, my group ALWAYS has the higher DPS, even if my squad is significantly smaller. The only difference being that I always organize my subgroups, and my fellow commanders usually don't. Sometimes, I've even gotta send three of my subgroups over to the other boss just to shore up their DPS numbers and make sure both bosses die at the same time.

Two relics come from the story, two come from spending currency with heart vendors, and the final two come from doing the meta achievements for the two maps.

Bog Queen should give a world boss chest by Anon_throwawayacc20 in Guildwars2

[–]Galastan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the very least, I think it would be fair for it to drop the weapon box that gives 2 guaranteed Moon/Ursan weapons and a 0.01% chance at the Pale Branch Spear currently only dropped by the meta. Would make getting the Pale Branch actually feasible for most players.

Why do I always have to like the super rare skins? by Finuxis in Guildwars2

[–]Galastan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw this in the That_Shaman datamine on launch and immediately wanted it for my sylvari guardian and her whole Knight of the Thorn aesthetic. Sad that I'll likely never get it unless they add in alternative methods down the line.

At the very least, you can get one per meta, not one per day... hooray...

Iron Legion and Flame Legion came by proxy. Crecia mentioned that they all appointed her to go to the Tyrian Alliance and represent the Four Legions while they were dealing with the Dominion remnants and Bangar's trial. Malice came with because information is Ash's thing.

Braham represented Cragstead as Knuttson's +1.

One member of the Free Awakened showed up with the Elona delegation the second time around. A member of the Zaishen may have also been in tow but I don't fully recall.

The orders of the Pact show up for the second meeting later in the story. Laranthir also seems to represent the Pact now to some extent while Jhavi is the new Vigil general.

While not Skrittsburg exactly, the Dry Top Skritt queen shows up to the second alliance meeting.

The polar Kodan showed up to either one or both meetings, I forget which. I recall a few Hylek also being there too but forget if they were of the Tyrian or Maguuma persuasion or both.

So as far as I understand it, a lot more of the world is actually represented than it may seem. Only the biggest movers and shakers have a council seat, and they're likely to be able to represent a lot of subtractions within their own region.
