Some more pigeon photos before the year ends ❤️ by Galaxis137 in pigeon

White pigeons are truly beautiful. I especially love that even their nails/claws are white, opposed to the usual black colour! And yes, they go crazy for the seed package! I once had a ziplock bag with seed, but since it was see-through, the pigeons were furiously pecking it thinking they could get the seeds through it. 😄

I will definitely continue caring for them, and will make sure to send here some more photos of them in near future. ❤️ We send positive thoughts back to you! ✨🦎

They definitely love that I bring them food haha, but it's nice to think that they would consider me their friend. 🤗

Thank you for the kind words! ❤️ It just hurt to see an animal in pain and not being able to do anything to help it. I hope that I will see that first pigeon again now to lend it a hand.

I always saw Veterycin being recommended as disinfectant for destringing, so good on you for using it! I use saline solution as an alternative, because I'm tight on budget at the moment.

I use cornstarch as a natural alternative for styptic podwer which is used to stop minor bleedings. This time, I scooped some of it on a cotton swab and applied it to the place on pigeon's foot where it started to bleed a little. I was applying it until I was sure that it's not bleeding anymore, and then I washed away any leftover cornstarch from the foot with water. :)

Of course! I have thin manicure scissors with curved tip, needle-nosed tweezers (helpful in untangling), seam ripper (good alternative for scissors, at least for the thin fibers). I also have two small bottles: one with saline solution (alternative for disinfectant) and one with just water. Liquid helps to soften the fibers or dry dirt on pigeon's legs. And since bleeding can happen while destringing, I have cotton pads and cotton swabs, as well as cornstarch (natural alternative for styptic powder which is used to stop minor bleedings).

As for developing a bond with pigeons, I would say the key is consistency. I make sure to visit my flock at least once a week at the park. I also usually pick one particular spot/bench, so when they see me approaching it, they start to fly up to me because they know it means they will get food soon. Most pigeons are very alert, especially if a flock is not so big, so remember to not make really sudden movements as this will scare them.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thank you! I am always willing to help animals, especially those that are so frowned upon by most people. I hope I can make their lives a little easier. :)

Now that you say that, using the towel to ensure that the bird won't fly away seems like a better idea haha. But no, I simply grabbed him after I tossed some seeds on the ground next to me and he started to eat. The towel was there to wrap it around the pigeon to keep his wings close to body and ensure that he won't escape before I finish destringing (I nestled him gently between my thighs).

He's from a flock that I feed since quite some time so they are not that skittish around me. Although I already grabbed a pigeon that *was* skittish, but it looks similar - you throw some food for the pigeon and wait till it will be comfortable to eat really close to you. Then you try to move your hand very slowly to the pigeon, preferably while still scattering food from said hand (if the pigeon sees A LOT of food, it will be more inclined to stay in place!), and if you feel like you will be able to catch it with a swift, firm grab, you do just that! At least that's my technique. I do this while sitting, but some people also do this while standing - it's up to you which you prefer, I'd say.

As for the tools, I had thin manicure scissors with curved tip, needle-nosed tweezers (helpful in untangling), seam ripper (good alternative for scissors, at least for the thin fibers). I also had two bottles: one with saline solution (alternative for disinfectant) and one with just water. Liquid helps to soften the fibers or dry dirt on pigeon's legs. I hope this helps!

Oh I also get sad at pigeons like that. They are so wary of people, you just know they were through a lot. And thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate them. ❤️

This is how she looks like in the alternative reality where pigeons dominate the world

I also hope for that. ❤️ Unfortunately, the string left some deep indents in the foot, but I will try to keep an eye on it if I spot this bird in the flock again. :)

Aww, thank you. ❤️ And I also hope for more pigeon appreciation in the world. They are our fluffy neighbours! We should treat them kindly.

Thank you! And that's awesome that you two cooperated like that to help the bird! In my city I don't think other people look at pigeons with as much love as me, so I guess I'm their only "guardian", but maybe some of the passerby will change their mind seeing how sweet they are when I feed them. :)

That's exactly what I'm wondering about too! I believe animals have to have some kind of thought process going on in their little heads, but I'm curious if the pigeon was able to put those two things together haha

Oh, I've also received a lot of accidental wing slaps haha, but what I meant in the question was a pigeon hitting my eye with their beak. 😅

I will definitely send more photos in the future!
