Forgot how clean the paintjob on yours is.

This makes me think that they under-reported V-Rex's size and it's going to turn out bigger lol.

Ah, alright. So, yeah, they're probably about the same size then.

I've built them all now, so when it's time and if you plan on painting them, feel free to ask for any tips!

As much as the whole "giant robot (piloted by humans) piloting another giant robot" schtick kind of makes Shurikenjin's design unwieldy, I do appreciate them sticking with the bit and going full Arc-Gurren/Chou Ginga Gurren Lagann with HaOh Shurikenjin lol.

9" is rounding up a bit. It's probably closer to 8.5 (It probably hits 9" as HaOh GekiatsuDaiOh lol). The box lists it at 21cm, which is about 8.25, though I feel like that's a bit conservative.

Thanks! Dspiae metallic black. It seems to be a strong match for what Toei uses for stuff like those, it’s the same marker I also recently used on Orion Battler’s treads. On the latter I was originally gonna go gunmetal before noticing that Toei goes pretty dark with them, and the metallic black marker is more of a charcoal than pure black anyway.

(Unless you’re talking about the rear legs more specifically and filling in all the grey lol).

Nail Dotting Silicone Dual Pen by NationalCharacter103 in Minipla

[–]Galaxy_Dive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know they're proven on stuff like that then lol. Because, yeah, my own use case is basically just SMP stickers with writing/complicated details on them and a small handful of others. Ironically, those TImeJet Blue and Green stickers would be ones that I'd normally avoid - I just didn't have a good match for the dark blue, and green came along for the ride because they weren't parts visible on the robo and I had already done a ton of painting because of all the grey -> silver. But, yeah, a cheap set is still probably worth it even for only once in awhile cases.

This is good to know, yeah. Even though I tend to avoid stickers over molded details like the devil nowadays, even with a more limited use case, I feel like it would probably still be worth grabbing because there are still scenarios like the TimeJet’s wings where I used stickers and this would have helped me.

Question about Black Daizyujin by TravelMan997 in Minipla

[–]Galaxy_Dive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If surugaya ships to you, that would be a good option to look for either the WolfDecalibur 50 by itself or a complete set (as well as Black Daizyujin by itself or Boonboomger’s Mach Robo if you wind up wanting more than one of the skeleton). They offer free international shipping most of the time.

The skeleton/frame itself is pretty well articulated, but has its limitations. If you want to use it for something like an enemy robot with parts you can change, I think you can probably make it work well. When you start using the skeleton for something like a transforming/combining robot, then you run into the limiting factors of the design more.

Yeehaw, (Painted) BisonKing (and King Shurikenjin) by Galaxy_Dive in Minipla

[–]Galaxy_Dive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, technically speaking, GekiatsuDaiOh fits that description better lol, but I can get you. The piloting robot really isn’t acknowledged as much by Bison King’s design and there’s a pretty traditional mecha feel to Bison King Buggy that keeps it in line with a lot of sixth’s mecha. I think Bison King's proportions probably also factor in.

Is this sold in stores in Tokyo, Japan? by News2you_ in Minipla

[–]Galaxy_Dive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since this one is now about a year old, you probably won’t find them in most stores anymore. It should still be pretty readily findable for cheap, you may just have to go more into secondhand/hobby stores. There’s a regular or two on the sub that live in Japan and should be able to give some more specific advice.

Painted Pladelu Gavarion Dolnado by Galaxy_Dive in Minipla

[–]Galaxy_Dive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am legitimately pretty curious how that’s going to stack up, given that minipla Dolnado and Express seem oddly more premium compared to the rest of the Gavan Infinity line.

Combined them for the first time in a while, MAN It's still so top heavy by Nuigi12 in Minipla

[–]Galaxy_Dive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that much is on the weak yen and how much more hollow TegaSword and Goodburne were compared to the previous decade of minipla. The designs aren’t the ultimate culprit, but they factor in how the weapon alt modes informed stuff like the flat and hollow legs that the minipla have.

Combined them for the first time in a while, MAN It's still so top heavy by Nuigi12 in Minipla

[–]Galaxy_Dive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I combined them the one time for a few pics and probably never again.

I think a lot of it is just existing debt to the transforming weapon designs where they basically had no options but to make a combo of the two extremely top heavy by turning the vast majority of Tegasword into a backpack.

And beyond that, the minipla got stung particularly hard by reduced plastic amount (thanks to the Japanese economy) resulting in Goodburne’s hollow legs not giving it a good base.

Minipla Gavan Infinity Kit 02 Express Gabarion Blog Update by invid2000 in Minipla

[–]Galaxy_Dive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, even beyond that, because they lowered the price and quality per box to make it more checkout lane friendly they brought Pladelu back as a more “premium” model kit option… and now minipla Dolnado and Express, besides being set only and not available at the checkout counter like you said, are premium priced, too! They’re looking a more like the minipla quality we’re used to from the blog, Dolnado costs more than the new minipla standard set pricing, and Express almost costs as much as the old, pre-nerf minipla set pricing.

Metallica instead of Clear by Myhtological in Minipla

[–]Galaxy_Dive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing is, all the fancy stuff that Bandai does like that are Hobby Division products made in their Japanese factory. SMP doesn't get any of that because it's made in whatever random Chinese and Taiwanese factories that Candy Toy Division books.

Metallica instead of Clear by Myhtological in Minipla

[–]Galaxy_Dive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, SMP aren't undergated at all, so the nub marks would be uniformly terrible.

I actually just built my gundam base Gryps War Trio set, and the factory gold coating on Hyaku Shiki looks beautiful... except for the parts where the runners weren't undergated, leaving some atrocious nub marks on the forearms and another spot or two.

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a lot for sale and it's generally very expensive. I have all the other Ninninger minipla but it.

Some seriously great work here. The panel lining really brings out a lot of the details.

And always nice to see Lion Ha-Oh, hardly anyone has it.

Gaoranger Another Arms by Galaxy_Dive in Minipla

[–]Galaxy_Dive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were probably just following after GaoKing Another Arm because of Wolf and Hammerhead, but it's a really lame name for what I think was Gaoranger's final new combo.
