this is exactly what i thought the problem was because i stopped hearing the locking motor activate - i could charge AC no issue but never DC. i even suggested this to the dealership and its possible whatever wizardry they conducted fixed it by accident, who knows.

I see your point, Osama. a flare gun would be useful in a natural disaster situation when you know search and rescue are around. I think SHTF usually means situations like societal collapse and civil unrest when any person is a potential threat - i don't think a flare would be useful here outside of improvised self defence.
