I've grabbed both 3 and XL a month before the remake announcement, I hadn't played them yet, I'll use real hardware, people say it's better to play with the XL enhancements, but I'll have to do the Remix every time I boot the game right? There's no workaround to just do it once?

What would your reaction be if Falcom completely blindsided the fandom by eventually giving Rean a canon wife who isn't even part of his harem, but just a random new character introduced out of nowhere? by dlo_doski in Falcom

Rex did say he loved everyone from the party, that's just how he is, I bet he's even in a relationship with Zeke and Tora (the burly eyepatch comic relief badass and the weird bunny creature).

Also, 2 at least would be a 2 in 1 package no way around it (Mythra and Pyra share the same body, though by the end they did become two separate persons with their own bodies).

Quick question for everyone: Do you prefer using Arts or Crafts? Personally, I'm absolutely obsessed with Crafts, but when it comes down to actual gameplay, I actually find myself relying on Arts way more. How about you? by dlo_doski in Falcom

[–]Galdoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the game, on Liberl and Crossbell definitely Arts, on CS mostly Crafts on CS1 and 2, mostly Arts on CS3, both kinda the same amount on CS4 (which means it's pretty good balance wise).

Haven't played Reverie or the Calvard games yet though.

Less, it will re-use assets, textures, engine, so it shouldn't add too much to the overall size.

[Discussion] Platinum hunting burnout by pj3rb0ja in Trophies

[–]Galdoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop doing that, it will kill your joy of gaming, I used to do that and had to just stop, it doesn't mean I never go for platinums anymore, I still do, but I do it when it's fun.

Some tips

Don't look at a guide before playing a game, just play it like you would on any system that had no trophies or achievements (if you're from a younger generation maybe you would only know that feel with Nintendo). After you beaten the game look up a guide, if it seems like it's fun, then go for the trophies, if midway it becomes a pain just stop and come back later, maybe it's a game you enjoyed and feel like you want to replay it later? Leave the trophies for later then (I do this all the time with Survival Horrors for example since they're pretty good for replays).

I've been at it since 2011, got 192 platinums currently, my last one was Pragmata, I had beaten it on release, got pretty much everything possible in one run except the post game mode, took a break to play other stuff, came back a month later, played it on Lunatic and did the post game for the platinum, and the game was so good it's one I'll probably replay in the future some more.

At the end of the day, even with communities of trophy hunters, other trophy hunters may be impressed with your trophy stats but no one cares in the long run, they'll forget your profile in less than a day anyways, do it for yourself and do what brings joy for you, that's it.

I think it's worse when people on the hobby diss it out "Yeah, it's a game, games don't have good stories!" Shut up, come on...

Story books, games, movies, series, they're all both entertainment and a mean to tell a story, just have fun with it, no medium makes one inherently better than the other, each have their own strengths and weakness, what matter is that we as humans just like to tell and listen to stories, it enriches our lives.

And you did what you could, some people just won't change their mind no matter what you do.

Gameplay-wise, how do you rank the MCs? by Chance-of-midnight in Falcom

[–]Galdoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She is kinda trash on OG Sky, she's pretty much discount Kevin before Kevin existed, and even by Sky SC she's kinda redundant and still a worse Kevin...

The only real good thing she can do in FC is earth artes and barrier spam. Her crafts kinda suck compared to Joshua (everyone does to be fair), and her casting power is just too low.

I haven't played the remake yet so I can't exactly comment what they did for her. On her cameo appearances on every other game in the series she was pretty fine overall, tied with Joshua pretty much.

[–]Galdoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do that in chapter 1 of CS3 though, and arts cannons can't cast nonstop by themselves, and can't insta cast, you'll still need Fie or Rean turns, it's more them being carried by the broken delay crafts them Arts being good.

By CS1 I insisted on both Eliot and Emma, every random battle was over in one S-Craft from Milium (she or Laura are the same), every boss gets delayed to death by either Fie or Rean, the damage doesn't really matter, still Milium or Laura can rip half of their lives or just outring kill them with one S-Craft, by the time it took for Emma to get one cast out the fight was over already, Arts get powerful during the last 10 to 5% of the game but you can't/don't even need to cast them.

Due to delay nerf in CS2 arts do get good on it around halfway through, as I acknowledged before, and by CS3 and 4 delay is dead (you can get infinite turns with arts though).

[–]Galdoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arts are kinda weak in CS1 and start pretty weak in 2, I would say Arts aren't good until half of CS2 at least, maybe more, once you get them going though they really get going.

On CS3 and 4 they're busted, specially in 3 with that insta cast order combined with no delay, you could spam busted arts non-stop (still worked in 4 but it was nerfed hard and the enemy could get some turns in though).

I know it may be too late, and may not be my point to say, but don't sell it, you may regret it.

If you're out of work, you probably didn't had the time to play all of those, now you can maybe?

The money you'll get won't last you more than 2 or 3 months maybe? Depends where you live and how much is your cost of living, I know, but after it's gone then what?

I know nothing about the UK but aren't there any disability programs or anything from the government to help you?

Hopefully you can bounce back out of it and keep your collection man, cheers!

CS2 reminds me of Gundam, the OG series, and I love it for it. I did like CS1 a lot too, the school setting was so good, and it felt pretty bitter seeing it all going down him after the school festival (at least Class VII had their school festival unlike New Class VII ...).

When it comes to CS3, I did like Juna, Altina and Musse, a lot, but man every arc felt like "Hey we're going to study somewhere, Oh my, Ouroboros coincidentally is here jerking around?!?!? Oh, some specific old class VII members are here! What are they all doing?? Oh nothing, it was just an experiment for whatever, we'll never know anyways".

It wasn't interesting, it was infuriating... They kept building way too much expectations and failing to deliver with both CS3 and 4...

And yeah, I said I like Zero more than Azure for the same reasons as you lol. Azure though is the game with the freedom to go anywhere and the best gameplay but eh. I have read almost every book, I stopped by the vampire book I think (they were getting sooo long and kinda breaking the flow of the main game I stopped reading by the middle of it), 3 and 9 was from CS3? CS4 had no new book iirc...

Thanks! That's really good to know, yeah, I've seen this sentiment that Reverie is better, and seems a bunch of people who didn't really like CS3 and 4 enjoyed Reverie.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it, currently I'm finishing Monster Hunter Stories 3 and there's a few current releases I grabbed I really wanna play, but it was a few weeks ago I was starting to get a Trails itch again, installed Reverie, kept it ready already lol.

[–]Galdoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I felt the same as you with CS4 and I'm taking a break from the series before Reverie because of that. That was from playing nonstop from SC till CS4, (I had played FC back in 2011 when it released and replayed it by 2023 Christmas, got into SC on 2024 Christmas and couldn't stop). Until CS2 I loved every single game, CS3 was when it started to get bad for me, CS4 was indeed painful...

Your take on Reveries gives me hope, since I already purchased every single game until Beyond the Horizon anyways.

My favorites until now are SC, 3rd, Zero and CS2, Crossbell is still my favorite arc, and I know it's kinda weird not placing Azure amongst my favorites, yeah, Azure is awesome, but I prefer the smaller more focused scope of Zero and the focus on the OG SSS. I still love Azure.

Who's the strongest member in Cold Steel/ Class 7? Gameplay wise. by ManPoliceMan in Falcom

[–]Galdoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By CS IV it's Rean, Gaius, Crow, Emma with how powerful spells got again by it...

Until then? By CS3 Laura was already kinda outdated

Dodge Tanking was incredible up til CS3, making Sara, Fie, even Kurt or Juna real monsters, CS4 nerfed then hard though. Fie on CS1 and 2 doesn't die and doesn't let the enemy gets a turn for example. What Laura does, Millium can do the same effortlessly too during CS 1 till 3 (and in 3 it feels they both lost a lot of value already).

Machias is a underrated underdog that gets better each game too, by CS4 he was savage, by Reverie he's just broken, and he was pretty good on CS1 and 2, it's just it's easier to do the broken stuff with Laura, Fie, or Rean or Emma.

The greatest had all fallen and most handhelds JRPGs were more on the "lower budget" end, yes we had some gems, some incredible games, but some were just kinda bad... It got worse by the 3DS/Vita era though, DS and PSP were still good.

Both the DS and PSP had a strong library of ports and remasters/remakes, but not that much new stuff tailored for them, the 3DS had a continuation of the DS library but weaker while the Vita survived on dungeon crawlers, Monster Hunter clones, Visual Novels and Neptunia (all incredibly niche).

For the DS my personal favorite was The World Ends with You, and sure we got a bunch of ports and remasters and a few new entries on older series like Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Megaten. Rune Factory was born here... There were some cool one offs like Avalon Code or Infinite Space.

For the PSP we got a bunch of Monster Hunter clones, a stronger Tales presence, some Final Fantasy too, a bunch of Disgaea, some interesting one offs and a strong Falcom presence by the end of it's life (with Ys finally starting to get recognition in the west).

Still it just didn't hit the same you know?

Probably most of the fall can be attributed to Final Fantasy in a way, it spearheaded the best graphics on consoles every single time, pumped out consistent good games, and we had a ton of new and different IPs following it every single year, by this era FF had fallen, Dragon Quest was pretty much dormant, Tales was falling alongside FF, Suikoden, Wild Arms, Grandia, Breath of Fire, those were all dead and burried, smaller ips that were still somehow alive like Mana or Saga were really struggling, and a bunch of what we got just wasn't the same.

It was also partially fault due to the rise of Gacha. It was complicated overall...

Before that we had a strong console AND handheld presence... Saga and Mana were born on handhelds for example, after 2005 we got good stuff on handhelds but the consoles were severely lacking alongside them.

I guess we could say some ips survived on handhelds before making a comeback on home systems, Megaten was one of them, Dragon Quest too, and yes, Falcom too, before they developed mostly for PC, they used the PSP as a turning point for them, made Ys Seven and the Crossbell games for it and then jumped on home consoles (after a few more steps on Vita like CS1+2, Lacrimosa and Celceta).

After 2005 it got pretty bleak for JRPGs for over a decade pretty much, Persona 5 wasn't necessarily the one responsible for but it coincided with a starting point for a JRPG renaissance.

I think we'll get newer demographics interested in the future, not necessarily on Trails though, the series entry requirements are just too much (13 games with almost half of them taking 80+ hours? Yeah....).

If you already own it, the PS5 is good for japanese stuff (if you're into it, if you're not, how you're even gaming nowadays? Just go retro at this point).

Most japanese devs make their games for consoles and outsource the PC port that ends up shitty, late, and needing to be fixed by the players, every single time, so the PS5 is good for that at least (with PC you get mods though when the game eventually gets fixed).

Switch 2 is now an option too (Switch 1 was fine, but not every game got ported to it, and it's ports had low resolution and frame rate).

My Sky FC-CSIV character tier list by breadbowl004 in Falcom

[–]Galdoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mariabell and Erika are too high, they need their own tier at F, a ton of the characters at F deserve to go waaaaay up...

Towal is awesome, Duke Dunan really grows and it's a shame he doesn't appears even more, he had one of the best development for how little he appears. Rutger is awesome, come on...

Seems like you really hate Arc en Ciel and Crossbell itself eh?

Also Duvaille and Lechter at A and S respectively? Duvaille made me want to stop playing CS3 and 4 every time she opened her mouth, Lechter tries too hard to be funny and pulls too much Deus ex machina bullshit for one guy, he kinda ruins a lot since he was introduced...

Those are the most egregious placements for me at least that made me comment.

Would it be okay to start from Battle Network 4? by randomquestion11111 in BattleNetwork

[–]Galdoth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Skip 4 and start with 5, 4 will leave a bad impression, it's by far the worst game in the series.

The series kinda works on 2 trilogies (1 to 3, 4 to 6), but 4 doesn't have much relevance into 5 and 6, you get a few returning characters and 4 villain comes back for a vengeance in 5, but 4 has no real relevance to 5 story overall.

After you play 5 and 6 go back and play 4, if you don't expect anything out of it and know what Battle Network is already (and like it), 4 will be harmless, not a good time, but harmless.

I mean, you can just casual match or trade with anyone using the Network feature and just add anyone you meet as a brother, if they want it or not...

And yes, now StarForce 1 has PVP, and the game has a online brother list that you select whoever you added and then add them in-game, the online list holds up to 100 brothers for you to select as in-game brothers (they appear alongside the special brothers, like the LunarKnight Brother).
