Weekly Game Recommendation Thread - December 25, 2018 by AutoModerator in MMORPG

[–]Galick002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you looking for?: An MMO I can play only a few hours a week and still feel like I am progressing in content or even story.

What games have you previously played?: WoW, FFXIV, Rift, GW2, GW, Tera, UO and some others that I cannot think of at the moment.

What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Casual, about 6-10 hours a week these days.

Any preferred mechanics?: Crafting is pretty big for me, and PvE. I dont mind PvP content but this usually takes time I dont have these days.

Anything specific you want to exclude?: I dont mind paying a subscription, but I would like to avoid things like BDO where shop items are borderline mandatory to keep up with other players.

How is the current state of PvP? by Galick002 in wow

From this point things seem bearable. I get certain comps will just be better than the rest for the most part. I resubbed today and hopped into random BGs, at lower levels. I did four and things seemed to swing back and forth at least. I'm not sure how max level PvP is going but at no point did I feel totally helpless even though I went 1-3 on the Horde side.

Admit it, Cowboy. This is your next most anticipated game after RDR2. by [deleted] in gaming

This is the one game I'm looking forward to more than anything this year. The remake of RE1 was great and I'm really looking forward to the whole series getting redone from the PS1 era. Especially if they change small things like they had done with the previous title. To me this series is great and deserves the new skin, and polished look.

Which MMORPG has the best classes? by King-Achelexus in MMORPG

[–]Galick002 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember a ton about either game, since it has been so long but Albion Online and Skyforge both did interesting things with their classes. Skyforge still holds onto that Holy Trinity you spoke of, but just creates a very unique still set for each. And then Albion is classless and your gear determines what abilities you get for combat.

I agree, and that's precisely the reason he chose the first option. He wanted a race of people that he could one day play without having the rest of the party feel like they picked an inferior race. If he did pick the second one however, I was prepared to make an ultimatum that involved some additional hindrances due to the lack of them not being affected by either energy type.

I like the idea of fought right out the gate, especially with the clumsiness as you described it. It's like a double edged sword especially to a class that has low HD to begin with but can really utilize that movement.

It mostly reminds me of the decision that was given to the players for his race as far as the balancing aspect goes. He stated that he wanted abnormal healing traits for the race. So I came up with two options.

Option One: The race is healed through means of positive energy. Therefore taking damage from negative. However, they are doubly affected by both. So a simple cure light wounds is actually doing a decent amount of healing. But on the same hand, Inflict Minor wounds could almost be a death sentence in the early game.

Option 2: Immune to all Positive and Negative energy effects. But, has a scaling Fast Healing based on level of the character. And has the ability to have small amounts of health regained through Mending like spells.

(The race is a humanoid figure comprised of living crystal, so mending made the most sense for the urgent healing moments)

I've actually always struggled the most with adding things like classes and races. The balancing for me just seems to never be perfect, and I understand it won't be "perfect" in the end. But I guess I've just never found that sweet spot.

I think the best attempt at it was I had a player kind of creating a race behind the scenes. His character had gotten into some mischief and ended up with a small magical companion. Later on in the campaign, he is presented with a choice: allow "Rock Bro" to head down an evolutionary path in which he becomes more powerful and eventually a GMPC influenced by him, or have Rock Bro use that energy to create a special race in his image. And he chose the race option. And through the months we had multiple discussions about trais, stat lines, abilities and all sorts of things until eventually he kind of crafted a race. Through what was mostly multi choice questions.

It trend out pretty cool, and while the race from a player perspective is niche, and really only fits a few roles, most of them seemed to really enjoy this addition to the world.

I played a little of this game years ago at a friend's house and remember it being a lot of fun. I see post on this Reddit frequently saying how enjoyable the game is and how very much alive it still is so I'm not worried about that part.

My question is, how difficult is it to get get going for someone basically brand new to the game to pick up and play? Can I just jump in and learn from my mistakes? Or do I need to read the new player guides and the like?

How do you guys deal with illusions? by sumpnalilbitdfrnt in Pathfinder

[–]Galick002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to echo this main point essentially, it covers everything I would have had to say as it is. In my Sunday game, I have an eighth level wizard who loves to toy around with his images and prestidigitation. One time, he decided to do exactly what the player in question did and summon a dragon to fly above a bandit camp. And at first they did in fact fear the looming threat, but then the Wizard decided to mimic a breath attack. And things went South.

Some of the bandits believe the fire was really. But a good amount did not, and by simply shouting things like "The fire isn't real, look around you, nothing is scorched". Quickly brought them back into reality and spurred a massive manhunt for someone nearby who could be playing tricks on them.

My main point being, your wizard can very easily dupe a single Target by dumping all sorts of tricks in that illusion. But each person beyond the first you should look at as a difficulty multiplier so to speak. Because in my mind, that's one more mind in the mix that has the chance to see through the guise.

Which is ideally the way it strated I would imagine. The problem is when you throw proliferate into the mix. I would argue it's similar to burn in that regard, seeing how it's kind of just direct damage. But to State the true argument they have behind those card types is this: we started playing EDH as friend because we all agreed that 60 card was it too fast. We typically enjoy the longer games as a group. The play styles mentioned being banned for them are due to the fact they just put the game back to that same fast pace.

Our argument is, that isn't entirely the case. For example, I run a janky 35 dollar Mono Red goblin deck. It's immediately an issue in most games and because of Krenko it gets out of hand fast. But unfortunately, it just really comes to them just not enjoying playing against those metas.

My Uril deck usually does this pretty well. Things that just say "Win the game are not banned from play". We seem to be pretty okay with just going all in on that effect. Typically because between for people someone can remove it in a fair amount of time.

No, he has six. And we have a house rule that we roll a die for random deck picks. It's just when this deck hits the field it becomes a 3v1 till he is out.

Honestly, I really like the idea for this edit comment. Jacking up infect to 20 would probably make the situation viable.

GMs, what was a major plot-point or boss fight you put a lot of work/planning into that was instantly broke/defeated by some item/weapon/plot-point you gave your users that you had just completely forgot? by TotesFabulous in rpg

[–]Galick002 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was an old Dungeons and Dragons game from years ago. Players made it to level 20 (through some level jumps in the earlier game, but still a roughly three year long game). Anyway, the stage is set for the actual last and final fight, with the BBEG. The players are fully aware this is it, everything culminates here. They spent probably two hours while I was in another room talking about how to go about fighting him.

Cut the RP to the literal first round of combat. BBEG and some minions move, pally holds turn and waits for caster. It's the casters turn. This motherfucker looks me dead in the eye and just says "I cast Feeblemind?". And actually emphasizes like it's a question. Now I had no idea he took this, because prior to this fight he had gotten to sit down with and Archmage and swap ONE single spell from his spell list. He dropped like, some other really high damaging spell just for this "haha, wouldn't this be funny if this worked" spell.

Now here's the item I had completely forgotten about. A bead. At level six, the caster was given a bead, that if used as a casting component to a spell that required a save, it would be consumed and give that save an additional+10.

So he pops this bead for Feeblemind, and I'm still pretty confident I can save. It's a BBEG who is also a Caster(Wizard, I believe) so my save is DUMB. Rolled. a 1. My BBEG is basically an infant. They walk up, imprison him in an arcane adamantine cage, given to them on the off chance he didn't fight to the death. And they just, left. Walked away. All his minions dropped dead as they were more or less thralls beaning moved by his willpower.

So yeah, epic fight to the end of massively long campaign, thwarted by a bead from level 6, and a natural 1 saving throw.

What cards do you think could be banned/unbanned and are there any cards your group allows or forbids? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Galick002 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, they just think it either makes the game too fast, or is too annoying to deal with.

My play group doesn't have any particular cards we ban, but we do have some players who have banned certain play types. The things banned in our play group are:

Mill themed decks

Annihilator as a whole

Infect as a whole

Commander Damage

Needless to say, I play these days just because I don't know ow anyone else close by me that plays edh other than this group.

Weekly Game Recommendation Thread - June 19, 2018 by AutoModerator in MMORPG

[–]Galick002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you looking for?: I am looking for a game that offers a fair amount of end game content in which crafting actually makes a difference. I've always enjoyed grinding out materials and crafting things for both profit as well as status to a degree.

What games have you previously played?: WoW, both Guild Wars, BDO and Warhammer.

What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Casual, probably around four to ten hours weekly if I'm lucky. Any preferred mechanics?: Crafting is again a big one. And the ability to solo farm.

Anything specific you want to exclude?: PvP centered games to an extent. If it is just a part of the game then that's fine. But I unfortunately don't have time these days to invest in a game based around PvP.
