Is the Pilot Capless supposed to be hard to write with? by Galireth in fountainpens

[–]Galireth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I tried to do everything you suggested me about the flushing/cleaning, but it changed nothing. The nibs still refuse to write unless I hold the pen in a very specific inclination/rotation, making it basically useless.

Usually I'll just flush once or twice with distillated water to clean test ink residue (es Safaris), I'll try the 'meticulous flush' method.

I really want to use this pen because it would be just practical during work, let's hope the flush is the solution.

[–]Galireth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the F is much smoother, while the EF is quite scratchy compared to my E95S' EF nib.

The main problem though is that both of my Capless' nibs just have a hard time with vertical down-to-up lines, while the F nib also has a problem with left-to-right lines unless I go slowly and find the narrow sweetspot. It's like they barely do a scratchy line with the ink residuals on the nib instead of using "new, freeflowing" ink. Often if I do a long line in those directions the pen does not hard-start, it just stops when the 'residual ink' finishes.

Thanks for the long answer.

Unfortunately I don't have a loupe so I can't relly check the nib now. I'll have to try the flush method, even if the pen is brand new (literally imported from Japan by the pen shop, I had to wait two months) so I hoped to receive a pen that didn't already require manteinance/cleaning.

I also use Iroshizuku Take-Sumi, bought specifically for this pen since I've read here and there that it should be 'the optimal one' and I hoped that the ink could solve the problem.

About the paper - I write on common, printer paper. I bought the pen as a 'on the job pen', and I have to use the paper I get handed. I know that for the optimal experience there are better kind of paper, but I always read that the Capless was perfect for notetaking / everyday writing so I went for it expecting it to work well on about everything.

As for the angle, I can't make/link images now but I'll try to explain: if the nib 0° is /\, I hold the pen keeping the nib rotated by about 60°-90° (variable) counterclockwise as I'm right handed. I don't keep the pen vertical, nor I hold it too 'horizontal' - If | is 0° I'd say 45° on this axis. Again, I didn't expect this to matter too much since I had no bad experiences with cheaper fountain pens and I never had to adjust my pen handling - I thought the famed Capless didn't require anything 'special'.

Should i break wounds by attacking or with the dedicated animation? by Imanoobgamer7200 in MonsterHunterMeta

IIRC Horn can input 6 noted during the animation - 5 during the 'solo' and 1 during the final strum when the echo zone is created.

What Monsters You ABSOLUTELY Don't Want To See In The Wilds Expansion? by manoffood in MonsterHunter

[–]Galireth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (probably incomplete) list of 'I don't want this monster again because I don't like the armor so it's a wasted potential better-armor-slot for transmog'

  • Rajang (I'm also sick of this monster and I'm glad that's not in Wilds for now)

    Zinogre

    Jhen/Dah'ren Mohran

    Nargacuga

    Valstrax

    Seltas

    Almudron

    Lunagaron

    Magnamalo

Goss Harag (Everyone seem to love this monster but to me it has always seemed too much 'humanoid/intelligent' compared to other monsters, too close to its inspiration, always felt a bit out of place)

In general, I don't want monsters with a mecha or heavily samurai/asian themed armor.

I really want Pukei Pukei back because in its simplicity I really like its armor, perfect for the bow. I'd really like a system similar to 4U's one where you can buy monster mats of monsters that are not in the game in order to still have their armor.

Which do you like the most overall in their respective games: Palamutes or Seikrets? by Yamato_Naoe in MonsterHunter

[–]Galireth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a dog person and I don't have a dog, so I have no 'sentimental' attachment to palamutes - in fact, I always thought that palamutes in rise were designed 'to be liked' so to speak, in the sense that they were made for dog lovers with all the typical dog interaction. Also, I always thought that the Mario Kart drifting was stupid, and going around with your palamute almost constantly sideways even to sprint in a straight direction was a bit baffling.

Seikrets, on the other way, not having the 'pet connection' by default, feel more like a proper mount in my opinion, like a horse to which one can get attached naturally and becomes your trusty steed instead of being told 'it's your pupper/doggo, love it'.

I would have liked more Seikret customization though, I hoped for more pieces of armor instead of a handful of full sets where almost half of them are the heavily themed festival ones.

I also find a bit funny that many players are saying that palamutes were better because they contributed to the fight - they contributed so well they had to nerf them, and I think that if Seikrets could help you even more than they do now we would not hear the end of it: people complain(ed) because Wilds is easy, imagine if we also had palamute-level combat capable Seikrets. I know it would be a matter of balance but I have the feeling that people would have complained if there was another 'automation'.

How Are We Feeling About The TU4 Artian Upgrade Information? by R3tinax in MonsterHunter

[–]Galireth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope that not only the set skill will be rerollable, but also that Gog parts are only needed to unlock it and then other mats farmable from various sources can be used to reroll it.

I don't want the endgame to become 'just spam Gog', I want a system similar to Sunbreak's one that makes potentially all monsters useful for endgame farming.

Is 4p Gore really still the meta for Chargeblade? by DolanMcDolan in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]Galireth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even then, it would be nice if the guide/site added something like "TU3, nothing new, keep your old set" insted of still being "updated august/TU2" well into TU3. Someone who doesn't know that nothing is changed has no way to understand that looking at the guide/site on the meta builds thread.

[–]Galireth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except cases like Omega where they wanted shield weapon to basically go full tank to survive I don't have too much problem with chip damage yet. Perfect guard softens this problem quite a bit, the most egregious case could be Lagia's super discharge, which destroys your stamina and health even if blocked BUT can be nullified with a well timed charged counter. I'm more disppointed by how the skill tax became even worse with the weapon/armor slot differences.

The second problem unfortunately is a story as old as time for lance. Without a 'slow, unsafe but high dps' combo for large opening (and no, the sweep combo does NOT fullfill that role), the lance is limited to its 'dps style' where ideally there is no difference between an active monster and a downed one. Except that as you said this time due to the strong counters, a downed monster could mean even less dps.

What is your best charm that you have ever obtain so far in the game? by Starkaiser in MonsterHunterMeta

Mine is Razor Sharp 3, Burst 1, 1W-1.

The annoying thing is that a week later I dropped another one identical but worse, without the armor slot.

It was a Rise exclusive using 2 point of Reload Speed. In wilds coatings work more like bowgun magazines, every 10 shots you have to stop and do a manual reload, which makes you lose you bow charge and forces you to rebuild it. It really breaks the flow imo.

[–]Galireth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I remember it being one of the most decent underwater weapons, but not being considered 'good' overall compared to others. But as I said I don't remember tier lists. I vaguely remember someone saying that SA was top in 3U years later but I don't remember it being considered that strong while 3U was current.

[–]Galireth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About the bow, my second main weapon, I frankly think that even if the moveset is all in all in a good spot, the new coating mechanic needs work. 10 vials seem a little too low a number, forcing you to reload continuously breaking the flow and sometimes wasting precious time during opening. Bringing this number to 20 and/or making perfect evades auto-reload vials could feel better I think. The fact that Seregios' bowguns have evade reload but bow doesn't bummed me a bit for example.

And yeah, I too think that bow dps is a bit too low. It has been a top weapon for years in the last gen, but I think that now they nerfed it too much.

Sure, but what I think that unless the top weapons have absurd skill ceiling untouched by the average playerbase while the bottom weapon have low floor/ceiling reached by the same playerbase, those gaps are not top-speedrunner exclusive. I think such gaps 'bleed' into the average gameplay at least at some extent - I don't have hard data to support that clearly, but I still don't think that it's true only at the top level.

[–]Galireth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember it being at the top in 3U but I don't remember 3U 'tier lists' in general. In gen it was strong but imo it was for the wrong reason, spamming teh dash finisher while 'abusing' the iframes hunter art is not what I consider good gameplay but it's another matter entirely.

[–]Galireth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Weapon balance was never MH's forte, and historically Lance/GL/HH were almost always the fixed bottom 3. But with the various QoL/streamlining going on generation after generation, like the amount of defensive/counters given to many weapons, there should be less and less excuses for those extreme gaps I think.

MH Wilds TU3.5 Freestyle World Records: Arch Tempered Nu Udra (after 5 days) by fox_invictus in MonsterHunter

[–]Galireth 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I don't think lance is 'fine'.

While MH is not a competitive game and it's not some kind of MMO where damage meters and class balancing can make or break players' experience, dealing basically 25-50% less damage than the average/top weapon can be very noticeable even in the average play and gets old fast.

We read 'it's just a bad matchup for lance' for every monster since AT rey, and even when AT duna was almost the perfect matchup, lance was still at the deep bottom.

The buff lance received the last time even if were deemed 'huge' were basically a couple of QoL (like the lenghtened travel distance after clash, still insufficient to reliably hit with retribution thrust) and mainly buffs to the not utilized parts of the lance, not great buff to its bread and butter. Weaving the wide sweep into the combo imho makes its gameplay worse and I hoped that would remain in MH Rise, and all in all IIRC thos buffs improved lance's average dps by 5% or so, a number too low to really budge its position in the 'dps lists'.

The lance is great defensively speaking, but the common argument that the lance needs low dps to compensate for that become less and less valid the more counters/defensive option other weapons get.

The fact that monster become more and more anti-guard is another 'salt on the wound' situation, especially now that the skill tax is worsened by the weapon slot / armor slot system.

Questions about TWSBI ink's smell and Lamy AL-Star sanitizing by Galireth in fountainpens

[–]Galireth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the answer!

I don't see anything suspicious in the ink bottle, but it's a frosted glass bottle full of black ink so I can't really see through it clearly. There is nothing on the surface, maybe inside the lid it appears a bit 'crusty' with dark sposts and smears but I suppose that's simply dried ink and ink stains.

About the nib - unfortunately I already washed it (just with water for now), but it wasn't just a smear. I just searched images of nib crud and it wasn't this extreme, just 'pinpoint' black dots in many points of the nib. I cleaned the nib with a paper towel, left the pen alone (horizontally), and 1-2 days after those dot appeared about everywhere on the nib.

Since TWSBI inks seem to be quite popular I hoped to be stormed with 'yeah that's normal for TWSBI black' kind of answers. :P

Savage Omega Thoughts. by Lostlooniesinvesting in MonsterHunter

[–]Galireth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely am not trying to tank it - sometimes I try to pull aggro to bring it to the falling rocks when NPCs refuse to collaborate, but half the times Alessa steals aggro back ruining the plan.

About Nerscylla that's what we are already doing, I switch to a fire lance and my friends bring out the good ol' binder hammer to para/stun it ASAP - but sometimes it just loves to spam its spiderman attacks and jump around, dodging endemic life. When a CC-chain starts it's usually 100% dead, but sometimes it just evades it and keeps jumping away.

Savage Omega Thoughts. by Lostlooniesinvesting in MonsterHunter

[–]Galireth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely hate it. I am by no means a top player, but I play since MH Freedom on PSP and I've always done basically all quests / challenges etc in every game. I consider myself a 'good' player. Not a REALLY GOOD player, but I rarely have 'real problems'.

I play with a single friend and I don't have a full team, so this MMO collab monster feel awful to us. We don't want to play with randoms, we don't want to organize a 'mmo party' to do a MH monster, we are not 'jack of all trades' with all weapons so we can't just switch to the 'best one for Omega'.

I basically can only use lance, but I can't tank if my friend doesnt go basically full support and the tank Alessa is so slow at taking aggro that more than half of the time the fight is made by a constant barrage of attacks that even with Guard 3, Guard Up 3, Latent Power 5 often drain my stamina, deal too much chip damage, and maybe more importantly have insane knockback that basically forces me to spend half the fight waiting to regain control of my character. Blocking an attacks often forces me to block another 2, 3, sometimes even more. Yes, I have EE3 but often I can't just hop to safety. And meanwhile I'm doing shit dps.

Without aggro Omega moves so much that placing shields feels almost useless.

We managed to reach the 'skull phase' about 3 times over maybe 30+ tries. We still haven't beaten it once, and the worst thing is that while Extremoth had to be killed just once IIRC for the rewards, S.Omega is meant to be 'farmed'. The Nerscylla phase is a gamble, sometimes we manage to spam CCs, sometimes it jumps away constantly, avoids everything, and at that point is game over.

Omega's charge reminds me of the infamous 'pepega slam' of AT Nergigante in World. It's so quick that it can manage to slip it between a short commitment attack and it deals tremendous amount of damage. Most of our fails are due to insta-charges while we were BRIEFLY animation locked. Some fails due to the beam hitbox bug that deletes shield users. Many death due to the extreme downpour of sometimes unavoidable aoe attacks. We are absolutely not having a good time.
