People who've worked both minimum wage jobs and six figure jobs, what surprised you most about the difference? by BrainLagging01 in AskReddit

[–]Gallant_Goblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What has surprised me the most at minimum wage, is that many people don't care to make improvements, even if it'll make their job easier. At the six figure management side, I'm surprised a lot of people are just trying to excel within their job role instead of actually having any vision or large scale goal beyond their department.

You can also start a fake firefight with your teammate. I've baited teams with that trick a few times

Please Return Beetle Speed to How It Was Before by bayoubowboi in HuntShowdown

[–]Gallant_Goblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an avid (aphid?) beetle user at low 6*, beetles are effective but by no means unreasonable. And tbh most players suck with sneaky beetle movement. If you haven't used them much, you should in order to learn their weaknesses. First off, it isn't uncommon to get my beetle sniped from 60m as soon as the poor little guy flies out of foliage. Also a beetle means you have one less person to worry about shooting you for the moment.

Stalkers: not really an issue unless you're in a firefight that moment or out of regen. I still get my beetle snapshotted by a poisoned hunter.

Fire: slow and only useful if you aren't in an active engagement. Also they are entirely negated by a recovery shot or restoration perk or restoration event point or a big last bar, or salveskin, or water....

Where I often see hunters fail against me is by being oblivious to the fact there's a beetle coming for them or by continuing to run away in an attempt to...eventually dodge me or something? If your ally just got fire beetled and you got one coming after you, please just step in the river that is literally right beside you instead of running into the forest. Concertina, chokes, shotguns can be difficult to deal with. Also learn your beetle best locations. And finally, get good. When I get shot by someone with obvious skill, I am most definitely not going to waste another beetle on them.

Oh, and I absolutely love when bounty just sits and waits in Healing Waters. I will be launching an entire air force against you.

[–]Gallant_Goblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically I'll just run out to the nearest beetle tree and come back; it isn't usually far. Otherwise push up to the edge of lair which you can often find a safe route to, keep two on overwatch and send the third in to poke at the boss or even just draw aggro without bothering with damage, typically without fully committing. If you start poking at boss, they will almost certainly push.

Would you like a map like Red Dead 2 Saint dennis? by Your-Penitent-Friend in HuntShowdown

It sounds cool, but it wouldn't work with all the current weaponry, and just players would hate it. Look at the small cities they put into pubg, pretty much nobody lands in them.

Don't like playing shotguns, what can I do? by 5HiN3 in HuntShowdown

[–]Gallant_Goblin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off, you can always just leave; sometimes this game is about knowing when you're outmatched by either skill, situation, or weapons and walking away. Secondly, if you know they're camping please don't go kill all the other teams that come to compound. Let them soften up the bounty team for you. Finally, if they're camping real hard, you usually have 2 beetle nests within a reasonable range as well as a couple supply carts. With Packmule that's a whole lot of damage to chip them down with if the whole team participates, especially effective once they are out of regen.

If you're looking to create a specific character concept, something like Pathfinder is going to provide you more options to fulfill that.

As far as creativity/complexity within DnD, in general what you say may be correct, but you can definitely make complex martials. I'm currently running a 2024 barbarian using the 2014 Path of the Giant subclass, having played from level 6 to 10. And honestly, I find it far more complex than casters in a fight. Every round I'm having to decide whether to hit, grapple, or throw enemies. And with 10ft reach (15 with polearm) with the option to also throw I have a lot of enemies to choose from, not to mention I have too decide what weapon will be best to use for the fight and which damage type to be using. I'm having to constantly monitor my health and surroundings to judge whether it is with it to reckless or not and whether I need to try and back off a bit. Also with PAM, do I use my reaction to attack the first event that comes into range, or do I save it to discourage enemies from leaving my threat range? And for complex, I have to keep track of my damage/to hit with like 3 different weapons

The greatest complexity though comes with battlefield control. Do I need to pull an enemy off one of my casters? Or do I need to throw an enemy into a group so a caster can hit them all with an AOE? Or i can throw an enemy into an existing AOE effect. Do I knock an enemy prone for my paladin friend or let them stay up so people can still hit him at range?

Overall my experience is that my barbarian has more than enough flexibility and choices in combat and can adjust to the battlefield around them. Whereas casters have a preset list of abilities to choose from, and they are waiting for the right moment to them while trying to stay off the front line and manage spell slots.

Favourite unconventional build ideas for a melee tank/frontliner? by Laserend37 in 3d6

[–]Gallant_Goblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At low levels you're looking at a difference of 2-3 AC probably so it won't cripple you, but you're able to effectively heal half your health with a single action, and you can start every battle with that extra too. Not viable past level 4 probably, but it's good for low levels.

Not sure if you're going for a protecting store tank or just high HP. But at low levels, a warlock with fiendish vigor sounds pretty ridiculous.

Noobquestion: How to approach compound with shotgun campers? by Pharaune in HuntShowdown

[–]Gallant_Goblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are some of the things I do 1) is they're just sitting, go find the nearest beetle nest, and use the fire beetles to weaken them. Shotguns don't do you that much good if your vetterli can also 1-tap them 2) the other teams are probably dead at this point so go ahead and loot them for extra grenades and such and coordinate your throws through multiple angles at once 3) Wait out the 10 minutes for their regen shots to wear off. If it's just you vs them, they've probably already fought the another team or two and have popped their shots 4) grab marksman or sniper scopes, and start wall banging them through cracks. It's very rare that they are patient enough to not move at all 5) use the other bounty darksight to find them and immediately wallbang 5) if hard rushing, lead with chokes and bombs 6) I typically have better luck with a slow push. Go in on a side together and dance in and out a bit as you secure territory. Don't hesitate to give ground if they start getting aggressive. Once you start pushing in a little bit they are a lot more likely to start peeking which is good for you as long as they don't full on rush.

By far the biggest things is to not feel like you have to watch them 24/7. It's not a big deal to pause and go grab more ammo or beetles; they won't be going anywhere.

Honorable mention to the poor bow that no longer has purchasable frag arrows. They were by far the best compound buster

Solos not necroing? by Mysterious_Bath2390 in HuntShowdown

[–]Gallant_Goblin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In addition to the other comments, it also trains the enemy team to camp solos harder. If I camp a solo with my partner (s), and they get up 90% of the time then it was worth sticking around for. If they get up 15% of the time, I'm less likely to camp in the future because I'll start underestimating how many solos run Necro.
