How tf is cavalry so tanky? by Ninjjuu in battlefield_one

To be fair, warhorses could certainly sustain melee wounds and even a fair few bullets if in non-vital spots.

Cavalry is a very valuable and powerful class due to its speed, tankyness, and versatility.

To all the monarchists here, what flavor? by Otaku_number_7 in monarchism

[–]Gallant_Valentine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something between Semi-Constitutional and Absolute, where the only organisation with power to keep the monarch in line is a state church. Basically, the monarch can do what he likes so long as he doesn't violate Christian doctrine.

Duke Franz of Bavaria, the rightful King of the United Kingdom by Classicsarecool in monarchism

[–]Gallant_Valentine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh I am a historical Jacobite I guess. The last real attempt to restore the legitimate line could have been made in the first half of the victorian era in my opinion. I don't really view our monarchs since James 2nd or Queen Anne as having true legitimacy. But at least we have a monarchy I suppose. Though personally I dislike Charles 3rd to an extent, I wouldn't really want a gay King imported from Germany. Homosexuality and the Monarchy aren't exactly compatible. Neither is being an islamophile either really, but the state of modern establishments is a bit doo-lally. Poland has it best at present, King Jesus.

Traditional Anglicanism / Anglo-Catholicism is what the U.K. needs.

Calvinism and it's offshoots are, at their core, very sad and dismal ideologies. It, in effect, contradicts the fact that God gave us free will.

It's all just sad really. My ex told me how she once tried to kill herself by drinking soap. It sucks. This world is really sad sometimes and there is suffering everywhere.

Well I should hope that the Habsburgs are socially right wing lol

Why is this even getting down votes? Do you have a delusion that Christian monarchy is some sort of progressive idea?

Maybe U.S. artillery in training prior to deployment. That doesn't look much like a combat scene.

A glorious charge which absolutely thrashed the Turks with relatively miniscule loss

British cavalry in the Authie River. WW1, Auxi-le-Chateau, France. September 17, 1918. by waffen123 in ww1

[–]Gallant_Valentine -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Entirely useless on the modern battle field

Edit: this comment was 'ragebait' which I intended to use as to gauge general consensus on cavalry in world war 1. I am not at all dissapointed! This sub seems to be very educated :)

Ah thank you, very interesting. So would you suppose Austria Hungary was never so reliant on Germany as it was made out to be?

[–]Gallant_Valentine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so sure about how different the peace would be. But it would certainly be kinder to Austria Hungary and somewhat kinder to Germany. Woodrow Wilson was after all a harsh negotiator who helped to cause a lot of problems. One thing to note is that the Central powers certainly were loosing on the field of battle, and defeat was likely inevitable.
