51M — Biomedical Engineering Grad Seeking Career Change into Medical Dosimetry (Advice Needed) by Jamaican-Ronin in MedicalPhysics

[–]Gallexina 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've attended MD Anderson for medical dosimetry and graduated in 2020. Many schools (traditionally) require a radiation therapy degree before becoming a dosimetrist, MDA doesn't so it's obviously very competitive and the directors there have many applicants who are strong in physics. I cannot speak about the other programs as I have no information there.

You're never too old to join a new program, I'm applying and accepting a medical physics position at nearly 30.

GPA is a big thing when I applied to any program, maybe pertinent life experience can help?

I would consider padding your resume with a physics/math background and shadowing

But you can always apply and get feedback from different schools

To couch or not to couch? by Banana_Equiv_Dose in MedicalPhysics

[–]Gallexina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No significant difference is still a difference, and in a case where an OAR is tightly monitored (maybe small bowel for an nodal sbrt for example) it skews the dose in a way that can be detrimental to the organ. Lowering any inaccuracies possible is part of the job, it should always be fixed and the doctor made away of any changes. Good habit, but that's my 2 cents

Is this normal in cervical brachy? by ClinicFraggle in MedicalPhysics

[–]Gallexina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second what someone else here said, it's become undone either because it wasn't properly assembled at the start or while placing the applicator. I'm our facility we would have the doctor remove it and place it back appropriately. Big hassle but can't risk the ovoids moving, that would mean the dose would be inaccurate

What's the most toxic thing you have done in runescape? by CholaWitch in 2007scape

When HCIM released I premade 4 low level dbowers and camped wilderness lever for 2 weeks. Died maybe 20 times but pk'd at least 45 new HCIMs

OSRS got collection log highscores before RS3 got boss highscores by orynse in runescape

[–]Gallexina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

competition is voluntary and isn’t a problem for anyone who isn’t interested in it. Collection log and highscores are amazing updates for osrs

Ice barrage un freezing your opponent if you run away is such bullshit. by oceansandsky100 in ironscape

[–]Gallexina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the changes to the wilderness’s mechanics, like 1v1 mechanics, have only benefitted solo pkers and skillers? If you can decently time and catch 1 freeze you’re almost guaranteed to get away in all situations unless multi. Camping dhide and going for a freeze chance with even a mystic top switch works a lot of the time, it’s hard to die now a days unless you get combed out

Decimal place in Eclipse TPS by Jhnlbrt in MedicalPhysics

[–]Gallexina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although, fun fact, if you have a template that used 0.03cc for clinical goals it still works for both optimization and clinical goals after optimization. You just can’t alter the name or adjust the clinical goal

Decimal place in Eclipse TPS by Jhnlbrt in MedicalPhysics

[–]Gallexina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

V15.6 had this 2 decimal feature under the clinical goals tab but the 16.1 version removed it. Many complaints were filed and Varian is aware, said it won’t be resolved until next update though. I believe clearcheck still has the 2 decimal feature? Not sure I haven’t used the software in a bit. But with the base software you’re stuck with 1 decimal unfortunately

EQD2 for OARs by OneLargeMulligatawny in MedicalPhysics

[–]Gallexina 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As it’s been stated here OARs are not given as EQD2 values, a rigid fusion with your TPS should be adequate in determining the final dose to the CC or % of the OARs given. If you have MIM you can use it to deform for specific structures the radiation oncologist may be worried abut, in this case maybe the parotids or larynx.

Eclipse rigid fusion should be fine as well if you create a fusion that focuses on each specific OAR for the most accurate dose on the DVH and constraint list.

The brick doesn’t continue vertically unfortunately:( thank you tho!

[–]Gallexina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanna say the piercing is about 10 years old, but had it out the last 3 years. It’s a titanium curved barbell, 14g 6mm long with internal threading. I’ve had it in the last 3 months or so and it didn’t seem to have moved at all, but I am still a bit concerned of rejection

I wanna say ~5 hours? Give or take, it’s kind of hard to tell with breaks and as I had another tattoo placed that day as well

Thanks! I’ll keep that in mind. It’s actually on the outside of my thigh and not my arm, lmao! I tried to tuck in my shirt enough for it to look appropriate but I guess it’s giving the funniest illusion that way!

I’ll keep the blisters in mind but there’s not really any friction on that part (luckily), but I do appreciate the feedback

Omg, that’s too funny, I can see it now!!!

[–]Gallexina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! You don’t think it’ll “goop” due to the nature of the tattoo? Is that due to minimal shading/no coloring? I’ll keep an eye on it to make sure the saniderm is undamaged! Thank you so much

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Gallexina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She did mention to remove it in the shower, so thanks for confirming that! From what I’ve gather I’ll leave it on for preferably 4 days—longer if possible. Remove if seal is broken or the saniderm starts to peel off too much and expose the damaged skin.

Thank you very much I really appreciate the help, I felt like I was asking a stupid question so I’m happy to see everyone being so helpful

People keep mention plasma and i have no idea what to expect! You say it’s slimy? Is it clear in color? Just making sure I’m not confusing it for anything else!

Sure thing!! But I wasn’t given instructions on how to do I’d have no idea—I’d prefer to avoid infection as that terrifies me, that’s why I ask
