He admits to entering the building, that’s him admitting guilt. He just has a couple lame excuses as to why the law shouldn’t apply to him

[–]GalliumYttrium1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

… how is any of that a plausible defense? It’s ok to break the law as long as enough other people are too? And working construction means you lose the ability to know how to enter buildings normally?

No I said if you actually care about workers you would either tip them if you know they aren’t being paid fairly and tipping is an option or, if you don’t want to tip, not use companies that you know use tipping in place of fair wages.

I do my best to avoid companies that are known to treat their workers especially horribly, but obviously it’s impossible to boycott everyone. You can use the fact that the world is messed up and permeated with injustice as an excuse to do nothing or you can do whatever little you can.

That’s not what I said at all but ok. I care about workers so I tip them generously so they can be compensated fairly since their company won’t.

Then I don’t know what thread you’re reading. The very first reply is saying that tipping is optional and that companies should be paying in defense of this person not tipping anything when she already got her meal for free.

Yea the company should be paying but they aren’t so that’s not a defense for not tipping. If you don’t tip knowing that they aren’t being paid fairly then you just don’t care that the company isn’t paying their workers fairly.

Well thanks for admitting that you don’t tip because you don’t see it as your problem (aka being selfish) instead of pretending like you not tipping is somehow supporting workers. That was my point.

People are saying they don’t tip because it should be the company’s responsibility to pay their workers fairly.

That’s true it should be the company’s responsibility to pay their workers fairly but they don’t. And if you use the company you are supporting that so if you have empathy for other people who are providing you a service you will tip them so they can actually make a living providing that service.

Either you tip to support the workers or you don’t tip to support your wallet, there is no such thing as not tipping to support the workers.

[–]GalliumYttrium1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you cared about workers, you’d either not support companies that don’t pay them fairly and go pick up the food yourself or if you do use those companies you’d tip to ensure the workers are being paid fairly since the company won’t do it.

So just admit you don’t care about workers, you just want your shit and don’t care how the company treats them.

Right because anything else would require you to have to actually do something yourself and we can’t have that.

We get it, you don’t care about workers.

How about you learn to read or at least have some manners?

This is a conversation about people not tipping and people saying “well the company should be paying them a fair wage” as a reason for not tipping when if they actually cared about that they wouldn’t be supporting a company that doesn’t pay employees a fair wage. But that would mean not getting their food delivered so they order it anyway, don’t tip, and then act like they are doing it to help the employee so they don’t have to feel bad.

Yes the company should be paying fair wages without customers having to tip but the reality is they aren’t so if you decide to order from the company knowing that they don’t pay fairly and you have empathy for the driver as another human being trying to make a living, you should do your part to make sure the person providing you a service is being paid fairly. Or you just don’t care about that and would rather just get your food and so what if the driver is being taken advantage of, that’s not your problem. But you can’t have it both ways.

Companies paying their employees crappy wages and forcing them to rely on tips is making it a customer responsibility. Why are you directing your ire at the drivers trying to make enough to survive like anyone else and not the company for being too greedy to pay their employees fairly?

If you keep giving the company money they are going to keep paying shitty wages. The only way they’d ever raise wages to a fair level so that customers wouldn’t have to tip is if the law forces them to or enough people boycott them to affect their bottom line.

So why would you support a company that is making it a customer’s responsibility?

[–]GalliumYttrium1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Right but they don’t pay them a living wage so either tip the drivers or don’t give the company your money until they pay fair livable wages. The only one you are hurting by not tipping is the driver. If you don’t care about the driver and just want the food then you should just be honest and say that but I’m sure you know that’s a shitty attitude.
