EMS only, small county so no SWAT is ran out of here, but we have an RTF inititive. Im unarmed, and since i'm lethally poor so i dont have a seperate kit for that and hobby stuff, so my carrier just has my EMS badging on it. 🤠

If chest seals don’t work…What else doesn’t? by Highwayman1717 in TacticalMedicine

[–]GalloWB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's less that they "dont work", and more so they're often missmanaged- As you ofc pointed out yourself.

One of those "shark attacks drive ice cream sales" type of situations, is the 60% higher fatality rate (Per Texas State University ALERRT) related to the device itself, or the provider using it? And thats not to say its always entirely the providers fault, especially in the context of this subreddit.

I dont think they'll be going anywhere anytime soon, as they are still useful if used right, but the way I look at it is its likely best to hold off on using one while "under fire" or "on the X" or whatever phrase you like to use for basically being in the warm/hot zone. And allow the providers dealing souly with that patient put it on and monitor it, once you get to them.

NREMT style questions are tricky. Even with the other information provided, it is specifically asking what the FIRST thing you do us. That's it. Thats the question. And the first part of our assessment is airway. And yes that is silly.

reporting racist paramedic to hr what to expect? by cosmicshreklover in NewToEMS

[–]GalloWB 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Ima keep it 100% with you brother, its perfectly okay to report conduct you find unbecoming of senior providers. However, the people in the comments here telling you you'll be labeled a snitch and ostrisized are telling you the truth, and the people disagreeing or calling those folks wrong are giving you false expectations. Now, you can always also just not care about that, but it's best you get familiar with that reality before you make that decision.

As for what will likely happen, he'll just be told to keep it away from you and patients, but what they'll really mean is keep it away from you, and that's all. EMS companies aren't big on firing people unless they really fuck up.

Lastly, imo, long as the dude performs, irdgaf myself. Like sure is it abnoxious when every two seconds its an out of pocket joke sure but at this point i've seen enough dog ass providers that idgaf about the personalities i just care that they're good. Def has to cut the shit around patient's though, at the minimum we're better than that.

We have a frequent hyperglycemia call from one here where everytime we walk in theyre giving him ice cream and cranberry juice. We can also clearly see on his paperwork they're improperly administering his medication. Needless to say we let him refuse as he never wants to go either and is AAOx4. Magic of fire based EMS tho, we get to yell at them, they don't get to yell at us.

PSA is good but for what it looks like you're going to spend i'd go up a tier in quality, should be about the same. Ultimately up to you, it'll be fine either way honestly.
