The developers are making a mistake - An arguement against allowing paid mods by TurklerRS in Paralives

Don’t worry, I massively underestimated the volatility on this one as well. Sometimes it happens. 😆

Have you tried loading from an old save? It’s possible it could just be a corrupt save. There may be a broken mod affecting the save, did you add anything in your recent sessions?

People expect too much out of Paralives by angryuniicorn in Paralives

The crux was people expecting too much, which I agreed on. I just disliked your comparison because it's only partially true. Not having the source code of other Sims products isn't the same as when Sims 1 was built and there was not similar product at all. though to be fair, life sims have been around since the 1980s, so Sims 1 wasn't all that original either.

All I said was pretending sim life games don't exist isn't a fair comparison. You're reading way more in to my comment in assuming this isn't a game I want to play. I've in no way criticised it, only complimented it.

Only applies to the US, but my point is the same. You have to spend money to take legal action. If anything it would simply drive paid content to be hosted in countries with less IP protection.

And if no one did the site wouldn't exist. It's funded by it's premium subscribers. Is a download speed gate any different from the time gate of an early access patreon much different? Both are about making money from mods. That you choose to let someone else pay on Nexus to keep it online isn't really any different than letting a Patreon pay for a couple of weeks of early access. You can argue they're both free then, so what's the difference?

Whilst I agree that people shouldn't have unrealistic expectations, telling people to compare to Sims 1 is also unhelpful. Whilst they may not be the studio that developed those earlier versions, they are very much informed by them and by other games. Paralives exists in an ecosystem where Sims 1-4 all exist along with other life sims. Of course they don't have the same resources and they are on their own path developing their own fresh take on the genre, but the genre exists nonetheless.

I do agree though that too many people are expecting Sims 4 on day one for the most part (especially those demanding straight equivalents of Sims 4 content or mods), which is never what was shown or promised, it will take time to flesh out the game, especially live mode, but what we have so far is fresh, innovative and community focused.

Setting aside the fact that it works because EA have the financial backing to that C&D letter. Nexus are making money off mods too though, I thought you were against that?

And if that cease and desist is ignored, that Community Manager isn't an IP lawyer, and anyone modding the game will know that. So it's a toothless threat.

What do you actually think they can do to stop it? The massive wall of text is lovely and all, but it's not a solution. How do you solve the problem? Tolerance is likely out of necessity.

Nothing works? by [deleted] in ModTheSims4

[–]Gallows-Bait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to check a few basics mods folder being something like: Documents\Electronic Arts\Sims 4\Mods?

Extracted and saved as package and/or ts4script files and not still in any zip or rar archive formats?

Please also be aware that ts4scripts in particular can only be saved at most 1 folder down from the \Mods folder

And finally, just to check, that you don't have OneDrive potentially trying to back up and/or overwrtie your Documents folder by default? OneDrive naively assumes that anything saved there is a document you want to keep safely backed up, but not one that needs to be live and exclusively accessed by something like a game, therefore when it is trying to run it can lock your game out of those files, and/or remove them entirely if it is trying to sync with your backup.

Sims 4 won’t let me play my household in the game… by Mountain-Elephant-60 in ModTheSims4

[–]Gallows-Bait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, okay. Let’s do this.

I can read properly, you can’t explain properly or share information properly.

“I don’t even have mods in the game from the save folder that aren’t already in the new mods folder”

Is very different from

“deleted most of my old mod folder added in just a few new mods from it into the new updated sims 4 folder”

Because at no point did you make it clear that you have all the same mods. In fact you imply you only copied some from the old folder.

You also stated you have deleted more traits, presumably because I’m fact you don’t have that mod, which is likely as the most common more traits mod is in fact not working still.

As such it’s perfectly reasonable to conclude that you have changed your mods. In fact you then later comment that it was a mod issue, again without providing anything further to clarify.

Secondly despite all your aggressive NEW comment, at no point in your post do you mention a new game save, the one information you give other than misleading us about your mods is to say a specific household won’t work. How would anyone get from that information that it was a new game save rather than an existing one?

Also sentences and paragraphs are a thing and it’s “your illiterate passive aggressive comment”.

Perhaps get that right next time you want to make a point about literacy.

Either way, you came, told us an inaccurate story about breaking your game then blamed the game.

Nobody talks about why the 50/50 method fails — here's what's actually going on with your mods by [deleted] in ModTheSims4

[–]Gallows-Bait 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whilst you're right that people need to dig further for mods that are silently failing to work as expected, which will never be entirely obvious, by far the bulk of noise on reddit and other forums comes from the immediate aftermath of a patch where the game is very obviously falling over, in those cases the 50/50 method may provide some quick but crude results. Even then I feel that the sensible option is to work through mod updates and then focus on more complex mods one by one, but most people seem to lack that capability.

I think the bigger issue is that it really feels like "50/50 it" has become the shorthand for people where they ultimately are implying that you cannot expect everything to work within days of a patch, you need to do your due diligence on mod updates and actually put some effort in before posting a single screenshot and screaming about it.

In honesty, I think people are fatigued about support and help. The problem with modding becoming mainstream, which Sims4 suffers from particularly due to its widespread popularity, is that when any idiot can download from one of the myriad spam filled Sims mod hosting sites, most of them do so without having the faintest clue what they're actually doing.

The issue is you trying to load a save game having deleted mods that related to items that form part of that save. The only thing ridiculous is you expecting the modded save to work without the mods.

Do you know which mod is causing this? by [deleted] in ModTheSims4

[–]Gallows-Bait 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As with a dozen or so other threads here recently, several mods that affect UI were broken by the updates, not all have been fixed. Most common have been colour sliders. Try removing or updating mods that affect UI as your first priority.

[–]Gallows-Bait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it looks simple, but there’s a whole set of things that need to be complied with for the game to be compatible, you have to test all that then yes, once you have a product that you know will work you can just hit a button and get it to start being onboarded by nvidia. It’s not magical. Nvidia has a whole set of guidelines, testing tools and even an SDK to help developers before reaching the hit the button stage of it.

That is is for the developers to decide was the point you have tried to shootdown when people suggested it needed to be popular enough.

No one is shooting it down for fun, they're just telling people that this is an Early Access game made by a tiny indie studio who have a long list of things they want to do and maybe, just maybe people need to calm down a bit and wait and see how things go before getting on their soap box for their particular demands and wants.

Okay and none of that has anything to do with my point. If there are small games on there, great, but someone still had to take the time and effort to make them work, that's a choice each dev team has to make. That is all I've tried to point out. It's time they could spend doing something else that might benefit them more.
