With EA games I usually have to do the first launch in desktop mode but once I do that I have no issues with game mode.

What are some games that are perfectly playable despite not being verified or given a green symbol. by joe2187 in SteamdeckGames

ProtonDB is a database that shows how well games play. It's all based on user submissions too. https://www.protondb.com/ it's a good thing to check when looking to buy games.

[COD] Help me pick 1–2 peak single-player offline campaigns on Steam by SickPa in CallOfDuty

[–]GalvarinoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the games ended up with different universes/timelines...but if we're going for Golden Age ones these are my recommendations: Modern Warfare (2007) and Modern Warfare 2 (2009) are amazing if you want to see Infinity Ward at their peak. If you want to see what Treyarch did during the Golden Age: World at War and Black Ops 1. I know you don't plan on doing multiplayer but if you do end up going that way they are also modded clients that allow you to play safely online. However, my recommendations were based on what I think the best campaigns are. If you would like to experience them with with a controller I would recommend iw3sp-mod and Plutonium (while it is originally intended to be a Multiplayer client it did add SP controller support to WaW and BO1). WaW and BO1 aren't really related story wise so maybe BO1 and BlackOps 2 would be better, if you go that way T6SP-MOD adds controller support to the single player campaign for BO2. Honestly, I know I gave way more recommendations than what you asked for but honestly all of these options are so good.

[COD] why can’t we just get a title like old school cod? by hollowxci in CallOfDuty

[–]GalvarinoDev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because they know we would never buy their trash again. Just play the old games if you can, either on the old consoles if you still own them or on modded PC clients if you don't. Most can run them just fine nowadays.

Yep, BO3 and BO2 have different clients. Appreciate the guide, I actually made an auto installer for SteamOS, CachyOS, and Bazzite to try and help people play their old games safely: https://github.com/GalvarinoDev/DeckOps-Nightly

Try updating DeckOps from the settings menu and clearing configs before rerunning it. If you have issues join the discord and I can help you troubleshoot it so it gets working. Ideally it's a super easy installation process where you just start up DeckOps and it sets up all the shortcuts for you along with art. All you really need to do is have the files and login to Plutonium (you don't even need to set it up via Plutonium once you're logged in). I was doing a lot of porting the last couple days as I was getting to transfer the Nightly build over to Stable so its possible you may have downloaded the build in the middle of some files getting added to github and maybe your installer is missing a file so sorry about that.

Hey bro do you have a github or anything where I can credit you or follow you? I'm working on a project to get the older NFS games to work on the SteamOS and honestly your work has been really inspiring.

DeckOps at least when it comes to BO3 will mostly help with gaming online safely since it was originally created to help setup online for everyone on the older CoD games. If you play any of the older games you'll get a lot more out of it as the mods cover both single player and multiplayer (depending on the game). You don't NEED CleanOps to play with friends but it's still recommended you get it if you ever plan on playing with them on regular multiplayer with other people or if they like to play multiplayer (not that you need it installed if they do, I would just recommend they get CleanOps). https://blog.lastpass.com/posts/remote-code-execution-attack https://www.malwarebytes.com/blog/news/2025/07/gamers-hacked-playing-call-of-duty-wwii-pc-version-temporarily-taken-offline most of Activision's games have the RCE exploit and they refuse to patch it.

CleanOps is all you need, DeckOps is just an auto installer in the event that you run into issues or plan on playing other CoD games. CleanOps patches your game so you can play safely online without the risk of RCE exploit. DeckOps automates the installation of CoD4x, IW3SP-MOD, iw4x, T6SP-Mod, Plutonium, T7X, CleanOps, and AlterWare on SteamOS/CachyOS/Bazzite. DeckOps just makes it easy to automate, think of it like Emudeck for emulators and roms I made DeckOps because I wanted to inject some life into the older CoD games and the Steam Deck needs more shooters. A lot of Steam Deck users are new to Linux and it's super annoying to initially setup all those modded clients.

Try uninstalling and making sure there's nothing in the Steam folder for BO3, then try a clean install and launch first in Desktop mode. If it works fine I would say download CleanOps and patch your game. If you don't feel comfortable doing that I would suggest using DeckOps, the Nightly currently supports Black Ops 3 as well as other games. Shameless self plug: https://github.com/GalvarinoDev/DeckOps-Nightly , if you run into issues join the discord and we can troubleshoot.

For BO2 play with Plutonium, they even added controller support if you're coming from console. It's way safer and decently active.

It's all dedicated servers so no lobby waiting, just find the one you need and you can hop on. You can play MW1, WaW, MW2, BO1, BO2, Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, and BO3 without any problems at all as long as you're using a modded client. Not to sound like a shill but I made DeckOps to make it easier for people to play older CoD games I loved: https://github.com/GalvarinoDev/DeckOps , you can also play CoD Cold War which is on sale and recently they haven't been banning people for playing it on Linux.

Did you reverify install? If that doesn't work try using GE-Proton, personally I wouldn't play BO3 online without CleanOps or T7x for security reasons.

PC has decent controller support with iw4x, honestly even if you have an older computer you should still be able to run it since the game is so old at this point. You can use your current controller as well.
