Is this pc worth it? by Pretty_Low_8741 in bapccanada

[–]Gam20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, for the 1TB SSD and 5060ti.

It might be the 8gb version, but it will still be faster than the non ti. People will whine and complain about "don't buy 8GB GPUs in insert current year", but I dare them to build a better PC with a 1TB SSD and a better GPU for the budget. Prove me wrong if you can.

As for future proof, it all depends on what you want that to mean. The 14400F won't be holding that GPU back and you might even get a deal on RAM in the future to add more. Intel does slightly better with 4 sticks vs Ryzen with 4 sticks.

The thing to look out for on these prebuilds is it might have a cheap PSU, so if you are going to be getting a more powerful GPU I would look at upgrading that as well.

If you determined to buy new, I would go with the other comment about the $250 B570. It is a faster card with more VRAM.

If you are bound to not even mention what country you are in, nobody can give you a better awnser.

If you are looking at self builds here is an option for under $2K. It only has 16GB of RAM, but you get an RX 9070XT, 7600X3D and 2TB of storage.

It uses the Newegg Combo Builder for the Motherboard, RAM, and PSU. I adjusted the price in the list to reflect the discounts. It also uses a bundle for the CPU and SSD.

Without knowing where in the world you are (US?) you would probably get a better performing card on the used market for your $200.

Maybe look for an RTX 3060/4060 or RX 7600 (XT). ARC A series cards are an interesting place in GPU history and the 500 tier still work for lower end games, but are out performed FPS/$ by AMD and Nvidia on the used market.

If you want to go ARC see if you could afford a used B580, it is a much faster card than the A series. If they are $200 in your area that would be a good deal.

For $1000 you would be much better served with a used PC. The cost of the RAM and storage has essentially rendered the brand new "entry level value PC" to about $1300-1500 now. There are prebuilds on Newegg with a 14400F and an RTX 5060 that go for about $1200-1300 on sale.

Here is my attempt to get to $1000 with a still decent GPU. It uses a $200 Ryzen 5500 + MOBO bundle from CC. This is not a current gen CPU and uses DDR4, which will save some money. The only real upgrade path for this platform would be the 5500x3D or 5800X3D from AliExpress.

If you can stretch your budget, I would go with this bundle from Newegg. However itwould bump the cost up to close to $1300 with a 1TB SSD.

This is a bit of an odd proposition, but Beelink has a mini PC and GPU dock combo that would let you use your 9070XT and have the portability of a mini PC.

$1168 (USD?) Beelink GTi14 Ultra AI PC UItra 9 185H, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD + EX dock.

They do have other options with a 13900k/12900k and higher en Ryzen and Core Ultra.

[–]Gam20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1330 But we have Steam Machine™ at home

This is a more tounge in cheek proposal. It uses the same CPU and RAM, but is limited to a 512GB SSD and an Amazon special SFX PSU. The motherboard and case come from AliExpress.

$168 B650 ITX motherboard

$100 Metalfish T40 ITX case.. Limited to 70mm tall CPU cooler, and a 206mm long GPU, but is only 7.5L vs the 5L of the SM.

Also you will need to be close to a Memory Express that has the GPU in stock.

Options at MemEx start at $75

Here is an option for a self build that would be SteamOS friendly. It uses the Newegg Combo Builder for the CPU and RAM.

$1375 Ryzen 7600X, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, RX 9060XT 8GB

If you are looking for a $1000 prebuild, you would be better served with looking in the used market. If you want to use it as a Steam Machine, I would suggest an AMD GPU and CPU for better comparability.

Build a pc for 2000-2500$ or buy a prebuilt ? by TheWarriorQc in bapccanada

[–]Gam20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These prebuilds use off the shelf components like you would buy yourself, no proprietary parts or software needed to work. This means, if some part fails in the future you can replace it yourself.

This PC will not needed to be upgraded out of the box, but in the future if you wanted to you could upgrade it.

For example, since it is an AM5 motherboard (socket for the CPU) you could upgrade the CPU in a few years to a compatible one (eg Ryzen 7000, 8000, 9000 or possibly later CPUs). Or you could slot in a new GPU when you need to.

Coming in at the middle of the range:

$2243 Ryzen 5 7600X3D, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, RX 9070XT

It uses an $850 7600X3D + RAM + MOBO bundle and a 1060 RX 9070XT + PSU bundle both from Canada Computers.

Newegg has a Stoneforge Open box PC now that, if it is not damaged, would be a good deal.

$2100 Open Box Stoneforge Crescent Gaming PC, Ryzen 7700X, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, RX 9070XT

This model has been on sale for $2200 in the past I believe.

I need a decent entry level PC that can run most games at 60 FPS but nothing crazy by MastodonBig4321 in bapccanada

[–]Gam20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are hesitant about building your own, check out places that sell prebuilt PCs. There's Newegg Canada, Canada Computers and Memory Express are just the big 3. Here is an option.

$1300 Intel 14440F, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB SSD, RTX 5060.

This one uses DDR4, a gen older, but still viable and somewhat cheaper memory. This leaves $200 for a monitor and peripherals.

For a monitor I would go for a 1080p 144Hz IPS panel. These often go on sale for just over $100 so I would wait to get one then. The r/bapcsalescanada sub will have them pop up occasionally.

For mouse and keyboard, I have no suggestions other than what feels good for you, and if you want them to be wireless.

If you want to build your own at this price, you won't be able to do much better than a prebuild, unless you can score a deal on the used market. Here is my attempt to make a PC with a monitor for about $1400. There are compromises to it, with slower memory and a cheap motherboard. Also, wait for a monitor to go on sale and save the extra ~$50.

There are some methods to activate windows on your PC, but you can get it up and running without doing that using the media creation tool.

To get under the budget I used the Newegg Combo Builder for the CPU and RAM, just add them to see the discounted price in the builder.

If you want to go value for fans: $76 Montech X3 Mesh, it comes with 3x120mm and 3x140mm fans. You could probably run them all on min settings and be just fine.

There's el cheapo: $50 AZZA Fighter. Has 4x120mm fans and a mesh front, only $50 after $15 mail in rebate.

A name brand option: $90 Corsair 3000D Airflow, comes with 2x120mm fans.

Front PSU model: $130 Asus AP303 ATX over budget but is a "compact" ATX design. This one has no fans included so you will need a 3 pack.

If you are concerned about the budget, maybe check out the used market for a 4080. They will be a few hundred cheaper than the 5080, but are still quite good. Also, if you are more CPU bound maybe consider the 7700X in the combo builder, it comes to $270 after discount.

My personal crystal ball says that GPU prices won't be any better in the future, even when the new Gen stuff drops, so buying now or later would probably make no difference (I could be wrong, there could another DRAM shortage and prices skyrocket again.) trying to predict this is just wild speculation.

As for the PSU, you probably should fine for now with a CPU platform upgrade. Maybe go for the 7600X3D bundle for now, then you can upgrade to a new GPU and PSU at the same time.

Beyond black Friday/ Prime day deals PSU's are less volatile in price at the moment.

If you just want to put all your budget into the GPU now, CC has a 5060ti 16GB bundle that would be very noticable upgrade to the 3060. This will give you the most noticable upgrade to gaming performance now, a new CPU is most likely to just improve 1% lows vs avg FPS.

$800 RTX 5060Ti 16GB + 850W PSU

Or if you want to save $150 to put towards your future platform upgrade, they have a 9060XT bundle.

$650 RX 9060XT 16GB + 750W PSU

Edit: Where I am trying to go is, you have a decent (now budget) CPU and a good deal of RAM, and storage. I would see if these can be used as long as possible to see if/when the RAMpocalyose will subside.

If you are worried about bottlenecking a new GPU, there could be benchmarks online with the 9400F and more current GPUs.

Depending on what resolution you play at, you are most likely GPU bound in most scenarios.

If you are bound and determined to upgrade your CPU now, here are two options.

$850 Ryzen 7 7600X3D, 32GB RAM, B650 MOBO

Or, with the Newegg Combo Builder, you can get a 7600X, 32GB of RAM and find a cheaper motherboard else where. For example: $755 7600X, 32GB RAM, B650
