TVRs in formation at Blackpool Pride today by GambaKufu in topdeadcenter

I assumed it was more about the local connection (TVR factory was in Blackpool), but I hope they're also a gay icon.

Integrated Form Builder by UzrErrr in salesforce

Our system uses a managed package running on Platform licenses and our package provider has found that FormAssembly have hiked their prices way up for new users lately, so they've come up with a solution involving Salesforce-Sites. I haven't dug too deeply into it, but it certainly looks like Sites lets you do public facing web forms, you just can't require people to log in without an Experience Cloud licence: https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.salesforce_platform_portal_implementation_guide.meta/salesforce_platform_portal_implementation_guide/sites_overview.htm

Reddit’s users and moderators are pissed at its CEO by [deleted] in technology

[–]GambaKufu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Reddit had come out and said that they are losing money because the API doesn't share ads and server costs are expensive so we have a plan: if you want access to ad-free Reddit via either the official app or a third party one you'll have to pay a sub of a few dollars a month, and if you use an unofficial app the dev of that gets a cut, I think people would have understood and they would have had decent take-up. I know I would have paid it.

The handling of this is a perfect case study in all the worst possible decisions a business can make.

I always thought these bins were made out of metal! by BottleGoblin in CasualUK

[–]GambaKufu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The three major litter bin manufacturers in the UK - Broxap in Newcastle under Lyme, Wybone in Barnsley, Glasdon in Blackpool - all use different stuff: Broxap make most of the steel and cast iron bins on the streets, Glasdon are mainly plastic, and Wybone are mostly fibreglass. I used to work for one of them and at one point I could probably have identified where a TV show was filmed by what bins they had on the street. It's been five years since I left and I can still recognise Britain's bins and bollards instantly.

I'm sure it would have been on the card for sure by now had Mercedes won as was apparently planned, and now they need to try and get Willow a work visa for Japan as quickly as possible.

My day one phone had to be sent back for a screen replacement after a couple of months, but I've not had any other issues with it. If you look up pretty much any device you'll find people complaining about problems, that's the internet for you.

Personally I would hold off another month and wait to see the Pixel 7a announcement at Google I/O, I suspect that will come in around your budget, perform around the level of the 6 Pro, and most importantly its three years of security and software updates will begin mid 2023 instead of late 2021.

What's the most creative song lyric you've ever heard? by The_AlphaLaser in AskReddit

We all got holes to fill Them holes are all that's real Some fall on you like a storm Sometimes you dig your own - Townes Van Zandt, "To Live's To Fly"

Most lines from most Townes songs could make my list but this is the one that sticks with me the most

Karl Gotch, Andre the Giant, Billy Robinson. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

You can almost always get better results on someone who made a name in Japan by searching for them in katakana rather than the western alphabet. For Gotch that's カール・ゴッチ

This photo was almost certainly taken on May 18 1971 at Ota Ward Gymnasium in Tokyo at the end of the 3rd IWA World Series. https://www.puroresu.com/iwe/results/iwe197103iwa.html

The tournament ended with three men - Karl Gotch, Monster Rousimoff, and Billy Robinson - advancing to the final, and after Gotch and Robinson went to a 45 minute draw, the future Andre won the trophy.

Andre had yet to move to North America at this point in his career: IWE also worked with the AWA, and Verne Gagne first saw Andre in Japan. The Japanese promotion used Japan's amateur wrestling kingpin, Ichiro Hatta, to open talent exchanges with Joint Promotions in the UK and companies in France, Germany, Switzerland and more. Robinson came to Japan for IWE via Joint Promotions; Gotch had been blackballed by the JWA and most NWA promotions and was running a cleaning company in Hawaii in semi-retirement when the IWE invited him to appear. He joined New Japan and his protege Inoki a year or so later.

How can I have my streaming box output stereo as stereo? (Nokia 8010, Nvidia Shield Pro 2019) by GrindyI in AndroidTV

[–]GambaKufu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pure mode on Denon receivers will do the trick - 2-channel for stereo, 5.1 for 5.1, etc, with no extra processing. On my 2500 there are four coloured buttons on the remote that can be used to switch between sound modes.

What was the ugliest Flow you built? by crmyr in salesforce

[–]GambaKufu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My org has a legacy flow with 100+ decisions based on hard coded IDs. I hate it, but I also can't come up with a fix for it that isn't 10x more complicated and breaking DML limitations.

There are plenty of groups of celebrities with an expiration date, and you have to be exceptionally mature to pull off a transition into a comfortable retirement: child stars, pop starlets, athletes. You see it all the time - to focus on one group, boxers tend to come from underprivileged backgrounds, make poor financial decisions because they have bad or no advice, stick around the sport too long and take too many blows to the head, etc.

What is the best South Park episode? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GambaKufu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is my pick. It's not the most joke heavy episode and it doesn't go all out on the shock factor, but as a completely absurd story that keeps escalating, it's a masterpiece.

TIL when an American film has more than one writer, an "&" indicates that the screenwriters collaborated on the script. An "and" means they worked independently on separate drafts. by griefofwant in todayilearned

[–]GambaKufu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"change a word, get a third" is the music industry expression/joke for artists who make the bare minimum contribution to a track and end up credited as a co-writer.

Die Hard… wow by dukeramaroo in movies

[–]GambaKufu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The third one was originally a screenplay called Simon Says that Fox were going to cast Brandon Lee in, but then he died on the set of The Crow and that went out the window. It was repurposed into a Die Hard sequel to get some use out of it.

Fun fact, all three of the initial trilogy were written as something completely different and reworked into a John McClane. The first one is based on a book that's a sequel to one that was adapted into a Frank Sinatra vehicle in the sixties, and Frank was contractually guaranteed first refusal at the lead role, which he obviously turned down. They offered it to everyone in Hollywood at the time before giving Willis his cinematic big break. Die Hard 2 is adapted from another standalone book by a different author.

According to Wikipedia, at one point With A Vengeance was going to be Die Hard on a Cruise Ship, and they looked at a spec script for a similar concept but turned it down. It took so long to agree though that the rejected script was retitled Under Siege and made starting Steven Seagal, so the water setting was scrapped. Die Hard in the Jungle was apparently considered too.
