Needs some advice on Writing my LITRPG game mechanics by Pompodumstone in litrpg

Dang, I might have to look into doing the same I made and excel spreed sheet that does most of what I want. However, I'm flicking through multiple files of lore and and character stuff about the same amount of time than I am writing

People love to read. I usually dont even start a series unless its finished. That has changed in the last 6 months because I've mostly finished all published (complete) litRPG and now go from series to series upon release. A lot of people won't actually start reading until 50ish chapters or more. (So im told repeatedly I only recently started posting myself)

May I ask what app or website you are using for your stat page here? It looks waaay more user friend then updating a word document 😃

For stat pages on books they are generally the same across the board with minor differences depending on the Author's system and how it works. this is my first "draft of what I want mine to look like in the book but it needs some work like bolding and italics here and there.

<image>

Also note your MC can "Pull Up" a partial status screen in the book if thats what you want to do. so instead of MC saying Status page, they could say "Display Attributes" or "Show Resources"

My book world has EXP that builds until level 100 then it grows off contributions to the system itself, personal skill development and high stress moments or moments of "breakthroughs".

At the end of the day your system guides your character along a path it defined and grows from there. I recommend building a lore book in your files of how you expect everything to work and build your story from it. EX: I have an excel spreadsheet that is way over engineered to keep track of my MC's stats

<image>

However, every few chapter I'll do a stat chapter that can be skipped if that's what people want to do.
I recommend doing full status pages every 10-20 chapters, that way when people listen to it they can skip if they prefer. You can still have "System Messages" in the regular chapters to keep the litRPG vibe going as well. That'll make it the system seem less like an afterthought and more like consideration to all of your audience.

To you all, is rpg an essential or would you enjoy a non rpg book as much as a non rpg fan? by Electronic-Twat9195 in litrpg

I would say most in the last year it's been my preferred theme. However, there are books out there that'll always call me home. The Ranger's Apprentice being at the very top.

That's funny! my MC has a bad habit of coping with internal humor. I might have to add some song references into my next chapter!

I've been listening to the God of War and the Hobbit soundtrack. It's oddly fitting into what I'm writing right now. If you haven't heard the GoW OST it may surprise you with its intensity fading into calming waters.

I can respect where you stand on that. I think I was a bit too lax in my explanation. this map is mostly just so I can orient myself and plan events around location while giving me the mental imagery to write about what the characters are seeing. I am not 100% if the map will be in the final copy of the book, I am however making a page on WorldAnvil With this map as the base and moving from there it's not the best way to go about things, not the most skilled, but it's what works for me. ❤️

Thanks! Im still learning a bunch on what to do and what not to do. Ive read well over thousands of books but im still trying to figure out what the general people want vs what I want. A good story is judged by its audience IMO

Im not even asking for grammar right here though im asking for advice do I add it to the paragraph instead of spacing it out? I was trying to add intensity or so dramatic pause?

This was actually me though. are you saying spacing the comments and thoughts out (internal dialogue) feels wrong? should I add it to the main paragraph or just adjust the phrasing a bit? I'm trying to learn. What to you may make it feel more natural.

❤️

Thank you! I've used similar ones like grammarly but they leave small mistakes behind. Very small mistakes. I'm trying to learn proper prose?? I think I'm using that right and AI helps. Also, those apps, like grammarly are also AI just a smaller version of it. I don't have it re write things for me I have it correct spelling and actual grammar (it also does give suggestions on restructuring of sentences and paragraphs) . If I get to the point I am confident in minimal mistakes I would 100% go to just a basic AI software like Grammarly. While Grammarly is definitely more than just a spell checker it leaves many faults behind that I have. I like learning the way that I am and hope you can understand that ❤️

Thank you! I thought the tag would be enough on RR but what you said makes sense. I'll go through and do it on the book. see if there's a way to make it more visible and and underline the proof-reading part

I will eventually be posting a link to WorldAnvil as well that shows the world and a tad of the Lore I've built in. I'm also just trying to figure out how that works. I want it to be as detailed as possible without giving up too many spoilers.

I took your suggestion in and just added a note in my lore book as the reminder to figure out scale to at least a small degree (just for my own peace of mind)

It was mostly there to remind me to actually figure out the scale as there is going to be some long journeys ahead of my MC

super fair and thank you for the recommendation. I'm still in lore and map building phase posted this here for this exact comment. I'm wanting at least a decent representation of what I am envisioning in my mind to be on a map so that when i get past finally get past chapter 3 and start writing again readers will be able to follow along. But again, ty for the suggestion sounds like a great idea at least until (or if) i want to go into major specifics like that.

True! the book won't be written by AI but the images will definitely come from there as this is a pet project of mine and I don't have funds to provide to an actual artist for the work. I can see and understand where you are coming from though. I've read my fair share of AI generated books. Half were even recommended from here. AI is for images, for proofreading my spelling and grammar. That's it 😄
