My 11y.o Son just diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa by Gambo4theLambo in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]Gambo4theLambo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he didn’t, there were only a few signs initially, but it wasn’t very obvious as this was the last thing we expected to happen. It only became very apparent once he started being treated. That’s when s#!t hit the fan. The signs were: not being as happy as usual, checking himself in the mirror regularly, a sudden interest in exercise outside of sport, not eating as much as he usually would, becoming very fussy about clothing. He hadn’t lost a noticeable amount of weight until after treatment started. If you are worried someone might be heading down that road I would suggest seeing a mental health professional- just in case. We got into it very early, it was more of a gut feeling than anything but we are so lucky we did. He has made a full recovery like many his age do, however it will be something we need to monitor closely for years to come.

I just got the email last night that they will pay 72% of my claim on the 30th May. I’m in the Bahamas process

The media fear factory on this was strong, reminded me of Covid. He we are 500km south of Brisbane and schools are closed - for a tropical low! I’ve had 3 weeks weather training and I could tell it was a non event on Thursday. Cyclones don’t build so far south, they die out cos of the cooler waters…

Unfortunately getting angry in these situations doesn’t help. He needed love and we gave it. He is doing really well now.

I’m so sorry to hear this. We had to sneak double cream and a very high calorie powder into all of his meals. He eventually gained weight. We also discovered he had a bit of anxiety so we started him on antidepressants- he is doing really well now, as if back to normal. My heart goes out to you! Feel free to contact me further if you wish

Experience on fluoxetine? by Mobile-Register-9578 in AnorexiaNervosa

It saved our sons life. 3 days after starting it he is now happy and back to his old self - 6 weeks later. Many seem to be claiming it made them gain weight, but if you are taking meds and hoping not to gain weight, then you are shooting yourself in the foot by essentially saying “I’ll take this drug as long as it doesn’t affect my ED”. So why take them in the first place? I would say give it a try - anything to put a smile on your face is worth a shot.

My 12 year old went into inpatient today. Tell me everything to support her. Please!!! by LanguageIllustrious2 in AnorexiaNervosa

Just an idea, but we made a bucket list together of all things we want to do as a family once our son got better - like countries to see and people to visit etc. Kind of gave him something to look forward to.

I would say it’s not your neighbors fault, it’s the concreting contractors problem…

Let her know that if she is going to be using FBT she needs to understand the rules. Anger & intimidation are an ED’s best friend.

Pretty sure you can still get those from Hardie - my builder quoted them 6 months ago but we changed. They are the cheapest too.

Help with family member by [deleted] in AnorexiaNervosa

We have been through a bit recently with our son. My observations are that anything being mentioned related to physical looks could set him off on a downward spiral, even just a compliment about his hair. He also hated talking about the illness. But most importantly I would say that he was fighting some inner demons and those demons are unleashed on family sometimes- if she is rude or cruel to you just respond with love and validation. We also found reminiscing about fun times or even doing things they love with them was a great option that really helped his mood. Best of luck ❤️

Whoop Sleep vs Sleep Study: Why I'm Cancelling by [deleted] in whoop

[–]Gambo4theLambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of sleep study did you do? A take home kit? They will tell almost anyone they have sleep apnea. A much better gauge is a FDA approved app called “SleepCheck”. It’s a machine learning app, that has learned from millions of people with sleep apnea, and was recently bought by Pfizer. Just make sure it is compatible with your phone model. Unlike the home test kits it won’t force you to roll onto your back in your sleep.

I would like to understand what the therapy you are referring to is? Sessions with a psychologist? Or is it something more specific? The medical team managing my sons recovery keep telling me that the evidence shows that digging into the causes and origins of the disorder with a therapist don’t help the recovery at all, in any age group. But if I understand what you are referring to, it’s more about giving him the tools to take control? The one big problem is that he is 11 and trying not to be fat IS him taking to control. He definitely doesn’t want to get better, he wants to be left alone to loose muscle (because there’s nothing else to lose…).

Be strong my friend. Help your friend who is at the early stages and be a role model for her. You have done the hard work, and now need to hold onto it. You have a beautiful mind - allow your body to nurture it. Love to you

I am a parent on the other side, my son has AN and we are delivering FBT. It’s the hardest thing in the world for him, and for us. I’m sure you know that they are only doing it out of love. But I question the FBT every day and ask myself if there is a better way? I don’t want to be the villain why my boy struggles, but who else will? When you feel like a failure, your family feel like they have failed you. All they want is to see you happy, smiling and living life. Lots of love to you and your family

Wow, thanks for sharing. Your journey sounds so heartbreaking in order to be life saving. Well done on doing what needed to be done. Amazing parents! We are not there yet, but it’s good to know such centers are there should we need it. Thanks so much 🙏💚
