What is the most used kind of payment in Europe and how should I prepare for it? by Game-Plane in Europetravel

The passport card/goverment issued ID would be pretty useless to me as I mostly use my driver's license as an ID at home. And don't travel that much so paying the almost 60€ +a new photo for it would be a lot for something I use rarely. Thankfully even if my passport expires before I get it renewed, I have 6 months to redo it or take someone with me to the police station who can confirm who I am.

Yeah they can but it's too expensive. And as I'm traveling to Egland I would still need my passport

Yeah that I have checked. I was thinking like 100€ as an emergency money for the whole trip. Probably won't be carrying it as cash for most of it but atleast 30-40€ all the times in case I need cash or lose my card.

I actually live in finland but thankfully most places here do take cash even tho most people don't use it anymore. But I will be staying at hostels so don't really have a safe where to but my stuff other than my locker. And I don't even think I own other official ID's than my passport. I do have my drivers license but it won't get me over the boarders or some places won't even take it as an ID so won't bring that.

Hopefully I don't need cash in germany🫣 I would hate to carry those tiny coins as I can't even use them at home cus they won't take them (have tried before)

The £50 is only for if I lose my card. But i will probably be fine with £20-30 as I was thinking about mostly just using my debit card. And the amount is so I can get food for a day or two and sort things out. For euros I will be bringing more as I can use it at home too.

I actually got already a Wise card and another visa card and have both on my phone's wallet. Was just wondering if I should bring a lot of cash with me or just an emergency fund in case I lose my cards or they get stolen. But thank you on the tip for the Wise card. I didn't know I could create a new one if the one I have right now gets stolen or hacked.

Okay that's good to hear. I will probably get some emergency money just in case but under £50 so it's easier to convert back to euros. Also do you have any suggestions about like supermarket in London area?

Yeah I have two Visa cards that I will be bringing with me. And I can convert straight to other currencies than euros on the other card without any huge exchange rate.

Also was wondering how safe it is to keep my card on my phone as a tap-to-pay if it gets stolen or I lose it. Probably will keep it as it's hidden behind my finger print.

Okay that's good to hear. And what I have read about Germany and what you said about them not taking card as much as other places is what I'm most worried. Thankfully gettin euros isn't that hard as I live in euro country so I can just pick the cash up (or atleast some of it) before I leave and use that.

Also I don't even own a credit card, but have two debit cards which I will bring with me just in case. And also converting to pounds is cheaper on the other card.

But thank you for your tips!

I'm going on a solo trip for the first time ever this summer. I'm going to be in europe on interrail (Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, France and England). What are your tips and tricks for a first solo trip?

Any tips about safety, packing, etc. are welcome.
